You can start with Cold Steel 1, that is fine. It is mostly a self-contained story with references to previous games, which you won't get, but that won't be a big deal.

Which one did you start with

Trails in the Sky FC, the first game in the storyline

It's available on Steam and even a potato PC can run it

So IF you can, start with that one

But starting with Cold Steel 1 is fine as well
