It's gonna take me years to beat Xenoblade 1. I can only play it in small doses because I feel this immense frustration whenever I play it, primarily due to me not being able to grasp the combat at all.

There are elements of this game I enjoy but there's just so many things holding it back. Aside from me not being able to parse the combat, the sidequests feel so soulless and draining that doing them is just a chore at all times. The size of the maps is cool at first but it eventually became taxing to explore them for me. The character interaction in this so light and sparse, and the fact that Heart to Hearts have not been fixed from the original really kills my attachment to this cast.

Shulk is one of the bigger problems. He gradually became far less interesting to me after he left Colony 9. I kinda just see him as a plot device now rather than an actual character.

Would you recommend that

personally, I'd say no

in a sense it is a sort of reboot since it has a new cast but, there's so many things you'd miss and not appreciate by not playing the past games

NISA does market cold steel 3 as newcomer friendly, and I assume it's due to CS3 being their first licensed Trails game

but I disagree with that heavily
