No, it's giving someone of color the respect they deserve when finally doing something big

But her color has nothing to do with the movie's quality

(regardless of which movie this is)

And no one is saying that

They are just celebrating that their movie actually did succeed that well

Maybe it's just me then but yeah, booing or celebrating someone because of their color isn't right

There's nothing wrong with celebrating it when it's for something good :plasshrug:

oh candyman

if i recall this is a remake of a similar film from years ago

Skin color shouldn't matter, no matter if it's for a good reason or not

It absolutely should matter for an industry that doesn't have as many poc people that can do this

Talent should prevail, not skin color.

bro you saying that is like it actually bother you that a black person get a number 1 film

And this is a step for more poc people with talent being able to get their dues that they couldn't get before

This is an industry that has been very* tightly closed off and wouldn't let non-white people in. Yeah there have been a few over the years but not nearly as many as there should be. This is actually a *good thing as it opens the door for more people to get a chance like this.

I actually don't care about her skin color

If you didn't care then you wouldn't have needed to comment on it

:plasshrug:

idk you came off like that

like it really bothered you

Because I see it as positive discrimination, which is a concept that annoys me a lot

Yeah, this is an issue you need to get over. There's nothing discriminating about this.

Okay, so would it bother you if a deaf person made a #1 movie in film history by saying they are the first deaf person to make that movie in the sense that a hearing white director gotten few times?

or hell a japanese director in that spot

I know it's a good thing in terms of representation but a part of me would love it if we stopped putting skin color or gender or other things like that before the talent

Who says they weren't talented? What if they are a person of color or a different gender and still prevailed to be more talented?

Isn't that also a good reason to celebrate it

Someone of a different representation who is talented is able to do a great job and succeeding

There's nothing about this that is a bad thing

I mean, let's say I become a great director, I would feel uneasy reading "Gay director makes an awesome film." My sexuality is a part of me, sure, but it doesn't define me as a person

Then you can come out and say it's not what you want to be defined as. But it's still a worthy cause to celebrate.

if i was a director i wouldnt care cause like yah firetruck yeah i got number 1 film at the box office cause i did it as a deaf director and people are taking notice
