Sounds about right

Had the potential

Phantom Menace feels kind of inconsequential

i still say that TLJ is a decent enough movie ruined by fans expectations

I'll watch it... one day

I had no expectations when I watched it

Still thought it was kind of bad

its got its flaws and issues yeah

I agree that many fans had unreasonable expectations

There's only so much you can do in a film trilogy

the things that people expected in TLJ was really, really stupid

But it feels cheap to end so many plot threads on nothing and telling us they are not important only for the sake of subverting expectations

especially when the movies didnt even hint at those things

TFA didn't hint at many things

TFA mostly feels like wheel spinning

To be honest

It's a rethreading of Episode 4, which is not a bad thing, but it only set up plot threads without actually setting up any kind of overarching, uhh, arc

Everytime someone says TFA I always think they're talking about the first CapA movie

We don't know who Snoke is, we don't know how Maz got the lightsaber, we don't know where the First Order came from or how it came to be after the Enpire was dismantled

TLJ shouldve been episode 9

It was fine for Episode 4 to be like that because it was a blank slate, the starting point of the story

But TFA is a sequel to an ongoing story, it needed to transition properly

also

im sure MAz getting the lightsaber will be in a noivel

I think it should have been in the movies, honestly

It's an essential part of the story, really

well, thats how this new trilogy is working

The weapon of the main hero of the last trilogy is on the hands of a stranger and we don't know why

thats okay

well get prequels 2: electric boogaloo

It's as if a new character named Oingo Bongo had Sora's keyblade and we didn't know how that happened

"Where did you get that?"
"A GREAT QUESTION... for another time"

WAS THAT A MOTHERLOVING JOJO REFERENCE?

also i will forever say this, Rian Johnson was robbed

dude had to write out of a film and into a film

Well, sure

So did the Episode 5 writers

And ESB is often considered a masterpiece

You have to hit a right balance

Do your own movie, but recognize it's part of a trilogy and that it has the baggage of other two trilogies over it

It's a balance that's really hard to achieve

On one hand, you don't want to limit your creativity just because of pre-established rules, but at the same time you don't want to screw with the continuity
