The blame here lies on the writing and director

yes they did.. but have you ever watched auditions?? multiple different people can portray the exact same lines in totally different ways.. because that my friends... IS ACTING

but they picked Tobey.. and ultimately didn't know shit about Peter as a character

If I also recall, least go off what Tobey said, he kinda sounds reluctant lately to step back into the role again.. he’s mentioned he’d be down for it again if it’s a new direction that he can take the character in from himself, but overall, he has the same excuses actors say when they take forever to sign for a role..

Though beyond that, he’d like to do another superhero role.. though did not clarify

i mean yes.. i can totally understand the writing and directing can play a serious role in why he sucked so bad at Spiderman... And despite the actor, it may have still ended up a mess.. But you have to agree actors can give their insight and their own vision of the character they are portraying.. and they DO throw a bit of themselves into the role.. and it may have been similar... but with a more competent actor. This role would have had a far different feel, and imo a better one.

Yes which is why I think these problems are caused by a mix of things.. But if the core writing is indeed bad, there's only so much can be done after

I'm not even saying Tobey is a good actor but I can't imagine this is all his fault

And some people liked it well enough... Though from what I saw Peter does seem more wimpy than he should be

I mean I can name movies where despite the writing, the actor least pushes forward and makes it decent.. though that’s rare

Andrew did well as the role, and some scenes worked well with what he bought to it, though overall, you can kinda tell writers didn’t know what to do..
