These long assessments are designed to keep people out w/ automated systems. Some can use connections to get in.

Menial, entry-level work should not be so difficult to get into.

yeah cause you can't interview everyone

Much of the time, they just want open availability to work whenever, which isn’t an option for some applicants.

but I dont really like group interviews but thats the work around.

also having a HR department helps

Skype interviews are a thing they can do, not even with the store manager but HR or Head office

And also I feel like some of these chains purposefully understaff themselves

lidl and aldi one hundred percent do

Not enough registers/tills open

its always one or two

and they have like 5 or 6

even with busy hours

they never keep open more than 3

One person often is stuck doing the job of three and there are a few registers, but we're fortunate if there is more than one cashier.
