It's funny, because when I initially played the English patched version of 2FM, the exact same Drive form issue was present as well (alongside many other issues). Bringing it to the PS3 version was like a nice way of having people share my pain.

This may be a silly question but is it ever explained why Sora was dreaming in the first place in DDD? It seems like Sora started dreaming the moment he entered Traverse Town because as we know, the version of Traverse Town that Riku ended up in is the one from his best friend's dream and not the world itself. Young Xehanort does say that Riku was inside Sora's dreams the whole time.

I thought, at first, that Riku and Sora had been put into a state of slumber when the test began but Riku's second foray into Sora's dreams near the end of the game seems to suggest that wasn't the case. I'm trying to work out why Sora had any dreams for Riku to enter to start with because it appears that neither of them were sleeping when the test commenced.

Unless Xehanort put Sora to sleep somehow after the Destiny Island part?

I had assumed that when Riku and Sora were thrown into the sea after fighting Ursula, they were also plunged into a sleeping state (given that they were unconscious when the Keyhole appeared and that both seemed to be coming around when they realised they were in Traverse Town).

So the way I understand it,
Yen sid sent Sora and Riku's hearts back in time, to when they were on destiny islands.
From there, they made their way into the realm of sleep by way of the destiny islands falling to darkness

So idk if it's how it works or not, but Sora's body would've been sort of asleep back in the current time, maybe if it was put under by way of sort of stasis and it was more the soul or something that travelled back

But while Sora entered the sleeping realm, Riku entered into Sora's dreams

It’s like this, Sora and Riku time travelled to destiny islands, then entered the sleeping realms from the pint destiny island fell

Their bodies remained in the future

That's just confusing cause if that's the case, why wasn't a second nobody made for Sora, or a first one for Riku?

well actually no that makes sense

Roxas was only made because of Sora's sacrifice. If they were put into a sort of stasis like Kairi in kh1, then a nobody wouldn't be created

They don’t lose their hearts they just are required to go back in time in the form of a heart

They weren’t taken by darkness to time travel

To become a heartless and make a nobody, darkness has to be the thing that releases your heart

So you're saying their hearts travelled through time via Yen Sid's magic to occupy their KH1 bodies. Okay, I get that. But future Sora's heart must have fallen asleep at some point then on the island or just after Ursula for Riku to be able to enter his dreams in the first place.

Yes, I understand that. But I want to know why Sora was dreaming in the first place. It's never explained, is it?

To enter the sleeping worlds you have to go to sleep

and with the happy path, they would have traveled to the sleeping worlds via the dreams to awaken them and obtain the Power of Waking.
7 sleeping worlds would have proven enough experience to awaken the hearts of people around them

Where is this specified? I don't think Yen Sid ever says specifically that you must be in a state of slumber to enter a dream. Riku wasn't asleep when he dove back into Sora's dream near the end.

Iirc he says it in one of the cutscenes explaining the test to them

well wouldn't it have been towards the end, in the world that never was when Sora is delving deeper and deeper and Riku is trying to wake him up?

Then why was Riku awake when he entered Sora's dream a second time to free him from Xehanort's machinations?

Riku didn't go as deep as Sora

Riku could wake himself up, but Sora was in a deep state of sleep that he couldn't wake up from by himself
