that's right it will be considered a retro game

feeling old?

now that you mention it kh2 is technically a "Retro game"

which feels so weird

I'm ancient 😀

though the reason why calling kingdom hearts 2 retro feels so weird is because well the game hasn't aged a day

like its still the best kingdom hearts game

the graphics hold up so well i can't believe it was originally a ps2 game

and the controls and combat are so buttery smooth that it makes you question if the game was a 2006 or 2016 game

its that good

I replayed it for the first time in 5 years recently and while certain aspects of it's design definitely show their age, it's still pound for pound a very thoroughly solid video game no matter how you look at it I feel

like what design shows it age?

the fact the worlds are much flatter?

Ehhh just some things with the combat mostly

I dont think 2 is nearly as balanced or fair as has been said over the years, I mean yeah it's better than 1 but, 1 wasn't really meant to be a strictly physical game-- 2 was, and, even if you take away the designs of the secret bosses, there's a lot of attacks that just shoot out instantly with no tell or wind up

Course take this with a grain of salt- I re-did my level 1 run lol

I find 3's combat after the Re¤Mind re-works more fun- true it only really comes in handy during the Data Fights, but it felt tighter

well tbf you are playing the versions where the game is running at 60fps

the og and the ps3 releases were in 30fps

the game was made to be played in 30fps

The PS3 was where I did my first level 1 run and I had similar issues but I thought I was just being salty

i wouldn't call bad balancing neciserally dated game design

I don't doubt frame rate plays a part, but the only way I think I could really confirm confirm is if I played 2FM on a Japanese PS2, which dead ass I'd be willing to do but I ain't got that kinda cash lol

the ps3 version is in 30fps

i wouldn't call fast attacks with no windup to be "Dated game design" just a bit questionable

acting like games today don't have such issues as well

I wasn't trying to imply that, I was just talking specifically about KH2

Dated was probably the wrong word, I don't have good vocabulary skills lol
