But Riku mentioned Sora’s dad when he was talking to Terra.

So the standing at the moment is Riku: both parent Sora: 1 parent Kairi: Adoptive father (the mayor of Destiny Islands)

He could have left a couple years after that time frame though.

basically this. it's the same sort of storytelling technique that ignores minute things like "wait, wouldn't this make that person sick" because addressing it would disrupt the flow of the story (unless it's a specific focus)

the parental dynamic to their relationship actually adds to their characters and who they are, which is why i wish they would lean into it a more in the future

We also know that Sora and Kairi are enrolled in school, according to Kairi

Riku may have been home schooled

Now that is an interesting idea.

RIku is presumably "the rich kid"

parental dynamics don't necessarily have to add to their characters. we know since they were young they just let the kids row out to the island. all we can say is they were given alot of freedom

considering the rewards he gives for beating him on destiny islands, he has assumedly is given the most by his parents

there was a later episode of supernatural where god basically took away the brothers' main character powers (aka plot armor), which led to things like the one getting sick to his stomach after eating a grilled cheese sandwich because, surprise: he's lactose intolerant! but it was never a focus in the main story, so it was handwaved away (and the status quo was returned to by the end of the episode or the one after, further emphasizing why stuff like that is ignored)

You know what, I understand that.

not too much. The island is essentially a playground and is being checked up on all the time by parents of the children on the islands

And Riku’s clothes seem to be slightly nicer than Sora and Kairi’s

Oh my god. This makes his gay ass feelings toward Sora even funnier.

is this said in the story? b/c i don't remember that

in bbs, rikus dad actually is watching sora and riku playing on the island because they know it would be dangerous to let them go on their own

if kairi is ward to the mayor then wouldn't her clothes be just as nice as riku's? i never really noticed who had nicers clothes. i just figured it was based off of the clothes they wear in kh1

we dont see him but we know hes there

same situation as those "spectators" in the coliseum

maybe the mayor doesnt get paid that well

Probably not. He’s just the mayor of a small island village after all.

considering both sora and kairi go to public school

they both are likely middle class

Kairi reminds me of one of those kids that likes wearing whatever she wants, regardless of whether or not it matches.

She walked into Claire’s and it’s the only place she likes.
