Like yeah they are independant but they are also supported by a studio. Which helped them with not only money but also getting Andy fucking Serkis, being able to offshoot development to different studios and so much more.

If this is considered indie then so is Death Stranding

this whole thing is such a mess that it feels engineered; 33's existence has been utilized to fuel JRPG/turn based discourse, and used as a "gotcha" against Square, and NOW if it wins GOTY its gonna be seen as a "win" for Indie Games and an L for the eeeeeeevil AAA game$
