I'm curious, do you genuinely prefer their voices more or is it the direction and the script from previous compilation entries that you prefer? a lot of people conflate the two and I'm not saying you are, but i want to know your thoughts

The Compilation had some rough moments objectively but I thought their voices suited them very well- some I think can be debated - like Red, he had 1 line in AC lmao, no big loss.

Cait Sith isn't that much of a difference, Yuffie either but Cid and Vincent's VA's i thought were like, definitive if not only for their sound buy honestly, the biggest ones are Cloud and Sephiroth

Writing and direction quality aside I thought their Comp voices were the absolutely beat choices for their characters, and when they were allowed to actually display their range, Steve Burton, a TV actor, and George Newborn, a longtime voice actor, were great.

The Crisis Core remake does a great job of showcasing this- imo the remake cast, even minus the obvious Zack, does not do as good a job at reading the lines. Perhaps that's voice direction, but regardless. I mean hey, Aerith's VA in that game ended up being her definitive VA for her few sporadic appearances afterwards up to KH Remind so that's worth something to me.

Tl;dr, I think direction cucked the OG cast more than anything 🤷‍♂️

That was my issue with the older FF7 fans who were complaining about the new VAs when remake was about to be released

It's time for a new generation of VAs to take over

We have to stop using nostalgia as a reason to dunk on people
