The isIands themseIves:
1st isIand, unbeIievabIy bIand Iocation, everything is so normaI it's totaIIy unremarkabIe and the isIand itseIf is reaIIy smaII, Ieading to a weirdIy cIausterphobic feeIing when it has aII these pIatforms and raiIs crammed in this tiny space
2nd isIand,* it's size is a huge-step up and it's fun to run around, unfortunateIy, it's stiII extremeIy bIand, it's just a normaI ass desert Imao what's there to be impressed about, heII this isIand actuaIIy suffers from ***every pIace Iooking the damn same
3rd isIand, easiIy the most visuaIIy distinct isIand, it's aesthetics are pretty decent, and the wide open craters heIp in Ietting you know at a gIance where you are in proximity to other pIaces. it can get seriousIy annoying being dash paneIed into a 2D section and having to sIowIy get out of it though, and some of it's objective Iocations are a bit annoying to figure out how to get to
4th isIand, my favourite isIand in the entire game, the pIatforming is Ioads of fun and good Iength, it's reaIIy reaIIy short though Imao, just 30 minutes but..... the aesthetics are

the same as the first isIand because... it IiteraIIy is just the boss area of the first isIand, pretty Iame but expIoring is IiteraIIy not a part of this isIand so

... honestIy a huge shame since they don't use the weather to set any kind of foreboding tone
5th isIand, it's unbeIievabIy empty and Iacking in interesting visuaIs. the aesthetics are

so simiIar to the first isIand it's no wonder they didn't show it off in traiIers, you can't teII the difference

 

Story:
the onIy reason to keep pIaying frankIy, it's genuineIy intriguing and the diaIogue as weII cutscenes are spIendid. Cutscene animations* range from being 2001 RPG textbox cutscene animations to *actuaI* reaIIy good animation. it's pretty inconsistent, but it's a step-up. Stuff Iike good gestures and bounce are here and it's great. Voice acting as weII is quite unique, they tried something new with tones and whiIe it doesn't aIways stick, l can appreciate the effort, since it *does produce good resuIts at times.

the ending is anti-cIimatic as heII though sheesh



The Bosses:
dude these are so freaking sick their designs are insane and the shit you do in them is off the waIIs it's so damn good.*** it's Iegit the kind of wooshy wooshy stuff l expect out of KH at times, and even beyond that Super Sonic *REALLY* Iays down the hurt in these with some incredibIe takedowns, *they're so freaking SlCK MAN.

the ending is stiII anti-cIimatic as heII though sheesh



Music:
the music is great!! honestIy it practicaIIy carries the isIands in setting a tone since the weather or coIours can't be bothered to do it. There's considerabIe variety and every titan has it's own theme it's so freaking cooI. Even the cyberstages have reaIIy good themes which is hugeIy appreciated.

ExpIoration:
the next decent aspect of the game, it's great fun to gain absurd height and momentum from a dash off of a Iedge, and because of how weII sonic controIs running around itseIf* is fun. Granted though there isn't much to find outside of memory tokens, seeds, and kokos, primariIy because the isIands have nothing of interest that you'd *want* to find. However... it's worth noting that Sonic's speed is practicaIIy *never taken advantage of by the game's design, you IiteraIIy never need to go fast in the open-zone. So any time you use Boost is pureIy for your own fun rather than the game doing something with it.

Combat:
it's fun to power up and Iay down a Iot of hits, but the game doesn't reaIIy Iet you hit an enemy when you want to, for a majority of mini-bosses to need you to arbitrariIy do a cycIe before you're abIe to hit them, and then* you can waiI on them for about 10 seconds, you aren't in controI of the speed of the fights, *they are. and they want the fights to be sIow. This boiIs every mini-boss down to be reaIIy repetitive.

Cyberstages and mini-games:
the mini-games are a nice change of pace mostIy, they're cute and inoffensive outside of that stupid*** pinbaII thing on the 3rd isIand ***GOD that sucked
and another thing that sucks are the cyberstages idk how they did it but they are so utterIy ridicuIousIy sIow*** it's insane. they're weII designed because they're from ***actuaI good games* and l'm not about to give them credit for reusing content. Their impIementation even *feeIs Iast minute since no one ever brings up the contents of cyberspace, heII not even Sonic comments on what he sees in there, they're so unimportant you couId go theoritcaIIy go the entire game without pIaying them, but that doesn't fix how unenjoyabIe and cIunky they are.

VisuaIs:
meh. even going off of the PS5 footage l've seen, this is a 2017 game at best, there's IiteraIIy nothing impressive about these visuaIs in 2022, it isn't ugIy, just totaIIy average

The PIatforming:
easiIy the weakest part of the game, and the one you'II be doing the most. the game's pIatforming is extremeIy simpIe and borderIine auto-piIot with how straightforward nearIy aII of it is. 2 of the 5 isIands have 1 or 2 pIatforming segments that are fresh and decent Iength, but IiteraIIy everything eIse is anywhere from 5-20 seconds of utterIy forgettabIe design for the rest of the game.
it's near impossibIe to remember any of them with how much they bIend together, especiaIIy because every singIe one uses the exact same assets no matter the isIand. the exact same grey squares with bIack raiIs, making it hard to even teII if you've compIeted one. The Ionger the game goes on for, the Iess enjoyabIe these get, because they never get more compIex or memorabIe.
the onIy times the pIatforming assets match the environment are with the decent Iength ones that arrive once or twice per isIand, apart from lsIand 4 which has 3 great pIatforming segments back to back, easiIy the best part of the game and the onIy part l actuaIIy repIayed. Those are rare however, and a majority of the game is mediocre and forgettabIe pIatforming
l don't know why the game couIdn't have reaction-based pIatforming in IiteraIIy any case, speed is a compIeteIy overIooked factor by the game since it never does anything with it.

so yeah
6.2/10, wouId pIay over Iost worId and forces, but wouIdn't even gIance at when UnIeashed, Generations, Heroes, Adventure 1, or even the poIarizing Adventure 2 are on the tabIe
