apparently, if your phone is like mine, unchecking that won't stick and it'll be back when you look again. if that happens, you uncheck, tell it to "find friends" and then say "don't allow" when your phone gives you the prompt. it'll still look like it's checked, but at least it tells your phone you don't permit syncing
