That's just my opinion but I think instead of doing product diversification through exclusives it should happen through the console itself. It's one of the reasons why the switch is so successful because it comes with both

diversification via being a handheld + tons of exclusives

I get what you're saying but Xbox already tries that with the whole "we're for real the most powerful console evar" thing, and while spec wise it's true, it didn't increase their sales at all.

As for the switch, I mean, no one buys Nintendo consoles for the graphics or the specs, its the games, and the games alone, cause they offer products no one else has- its why they're perceived as so above everyone

they probably also don't have a choice because games become more and more expensive

and they need the other platforms for a wider audience

and sales

it's gonna be interesting how Nintendo will deal with it because they are gonna reach this point too with the switch 2

I do agree that the next console generations should be about improving hardware more, and I'll piggyback off that to tack on I believe optimization and streamlining the development process too; to cut down on the ever bloating man hours and money required for making these games.
