Xehanort wanted to do the right thing but he went down the wrong path to do it (and was encouraged by Master of Masters). Obviously, I'm not just gonna excuse the things he did to get there, but I personally liked that even though he was in the wrong path, Sora basically straight up lectured him into why he was wrong and Eraqus was there to just be like "Listen, I'm still here for you. Enough of this nonsense and let's just move on together" or whatever
