it's an intentional mystery because this is a long running series that is not over

so Riku is in Quad now

because the nameless star didnt act like she was from Quadratum

the nameless star literally tells them her world is named Quadratum and is probably what Riku saw in his dreams

Riku describes his dream and she's like

"Quadratum??"

she pauses and thinks about it as if she isnt from there and it isnt the first place she would think of

in that cutscene everyone there seems extremely clueless

the dialogue deliverance doesnt help

And then Fairy Godmother sends Riku there

ok so he is in Quad now

that's the implication, yes. but we don't know as a confirmation because it's still open ended until we see him in 4 wherever he is

we need a break from all the convoluted writing this is a new story arc and is already starting messy af

keep in mind that so far, what we've seen and heard of quadratum is that it's loosely based on irl shibuya while Riku in the secret ending is roaming around what looks like shinjuku. probably just another part of quadratum, but again we don't know for sure

how is that convoluted in any way

its left open because it's an ongoing series

there is so many moving parts in the story rn

like literally any other ongoing series would do

my point is 3 closed out a chapter on the story

this new chapter started up with too many cogs in the machine

top that on the fact they keep delivering very important story parts through spin-off titles like the phone game and MOM

Personally I think phase 2 is off to a better start than 1.

To me phase 1 didn't reqlly become phase 1 until around the time BBS showed up

phase 1 started slow and branched out

At that time, you could call 1, com, 2 and even 358 as their own little thing.

But BBS, Coded, and 3D, that to me is quote unquote the "real' phase one, if that makes sense

i still havent watched the important story bits from union

i know bit and pieces of it because I was playing the game when they were still releasing story but i got really burnt out on having to complete a certain amount of worlds just to get to the cutscenes that actually mattered

Yes because to use your analogy, they're taking cogs from the old machine that were new and didn't fit well into that machine, and putting it into a newer one, meaning it will seem to not work correctly until more cogs get added.
