i think ffxvi did good because it wasn't anime

7 just feels like it's in a weird spot. Full anime games are super popular e.g Genshin or Star Rail. XVI is more realism and anime as firetruck in the boss fights, 7 is all over the place

The reason genshin and star rail have a fanbase is because it's free, notice how everyone always complains about the price of games yet is ok spending 80 bucks on rolls for a waifu

in gaming the "west" is typically NA/EU in opposition to asia in the east

ffxvi esthetic is closer to the witcher than the usual SE game that is generally instantly classified as weeb
