May 15, 201114 yr well they do sell rpgs witch are dieing out but if they move alittle bit west (metticforcly speeking) and edit their games out from rpg ness they can go far oh and not do drugs
May 15, 201114 yr Maybe they should bust up some KH games alittle sooner. That will give them their edge again ^-^
May 15, 201114 yr Well, let's not fear, they HAVE to make KH3. They got no choice. But this is sad, how can the best gamng company in the world be falling? D;
May 18, 201114 yr The problem with Square Enix games is that each one that comes out is almost exactly the same. The Final Fantasy Formula: Angsty Teen on Steroids + Weird world= Final Fantasy The Kingdom Hearts Formula: Overly Happy Teen + Disney + Final Fantasy= Kingdom Hearts Plus gameplay doesn't change much, Kingdom Heart is progressing rather well (although it's still a button masher) but final fantasy hasn't changed much at all. When a change does come it takes forever for another one to get in place. The main reason why people play FF games is for the story. Which is alright as SE are good story tellers. Only problem is that people want more interaction in their games now. You could get away with an interactive story book in the past but now games need to be as interactive as possible. This is why western RPG market is doing very well. Main character development is very minimal allowing you to feel like you are the person you are playing as. The lack of true cut scenes also helps. Although I love cutscenes, suddenly getting pulled out of the game to watch a video kills the effect that you are the one experiencing the events, not the person in the game. Some games do it well. The Mass Effect series does have cutscenes but they aren't overly long and they don't pull you out of the game as intensely. Take the Kingdom Hearts game as an example here. Your playing as Sora, running through the world killing heartless, great. After a while you feel like you actually are Sora. Then as soon as you go into the next area the camera zooms out, you are no longer in the gameplay perspective, and then you have to listen to dialogue that you don't have any control over. Why am I being so nice to the person that's trying to kill me? I want to tell him he is an asshole! Now take Fallout games into consideration. You never leave the view of the character. Everything is seen through what is like your eyes (except when you go into third person) . You also control what you say, what if I don't want to be nice to this person that needs my help? What if I want to kill him instead? To sum it up. The western RPGs are in the lead at the moment because they allow players to make choices. SE and other Japanese game companies don't normally let you do this. People like to feel like they made a difference. Choices add more replayability as well. If I played through the story mode as a good guy, maybe I would like to see what would happen if I was evil? I can only play through a linear game so many times, the ability to branch out and take different paths is what is appealing. Does this mean SE should scrap their story telling skills and give more power to the players? NO! However they could combine both the choice making together. There are problems with this though. They would have to write a story to go with each possible choice. And that takes time and money. However this is nothing to worry about. Fallout 3 took 10 years and millions to make but had a good story and plenty of choices. It earned more money than it took to make the game (by A LOT) won game of the year, and millions of people consider it the best RPG ever made and many would go as far to say it was the best game ever made. If SE wants to survive they will have to follow fallouts example. Does this meant they have to copy the game? None sense! Keep traditional elements from classic SE RPG games, give players choices that change the course of the story, and presto, you got yourselves an awesome game. It takes a long time to make games like this but I would rather have 1 amazing game every 10 years than 1 forgettable game every year.
May 18, 201114 yr Like I said on IGN, maybe if they would just make Kingdom Hearts III they wouldn't be in this shit.
May 18, 201114 yr Well, let's not fear, they HAVE to make KH3. They got no choice. But this is sad, how can the best gamng company in the world be falling? D; Cause they are far from the best "gamng company" in the world. Sad but true. I have not really greatly enjoyed any of their games since KH2.
