I just wanted to say Good Luck to everyone taking Finals for school (even if you are not scheduled to take them for a while). I was going to post this as a status update but I figured everyone should see it whenever the stressful time comes around. Since I've haven taken a lot of them I wanted to offer so advice to all of you in case you are stressing out about these things:
1. Study/Review: Even if you feel like you remember everything from the previous semester(s) it doesn't hurt to just look over the material. If you are having a hard time concentrating on studying because let's face it studying is tedious take ten minutes to sit down and study then take a five minute break then go back to studying for then then another break for five and so on just make sure in those ten minutes you are really studying.
2. Get a goodnight sleep: I know everyone says it but it really does help if you are well rested before taking a final. Your concentration is a lot better and your ability to recall all the material is keener. Also it feels better knowing you don't have to yawn or rub your eyes every five seconds during the time you have.
3. Eat some breakfast: I know from personal experience that eating breakfast before school is hard to fit in, but try to eat a granola bar or something (it doesn't have to be eggs and bacon or cereal) just so you have something in your system for your body to run on. One of my teachers told my class this and I'm going to tell you this too "Everyone of you should eat breakfast before taking any of your finals. You would not trust your car to take you to the beach if it had no gas in in correct? Then do not trust your brain to recall ALL the material without having the energy to do so." So grab that granola bar and get that brain really to do some serious work.
4. Be prepared: Remember the physical materials you need for the final. For example if you are taking your math final remember to bring your calculator/ruler/protractor etc (if you are allowed to use them). Make sure you have more then one pencil and eraser, in the words of Vanitas, "It doesn't hurt to have a back up."
5. Relax: when taking your finals and after you take them. During the final just breath and take your time each question, even if there is a time limit. If you rush through a question there is a chance you might make a mistake (especially in Math calculations). Answer the questions you know will take a shorter time to do first, then go back and do the longer ones. If you have an essay on your final, my advice is do the essay first. It feels a lot better knowing that that part of the final is out of the way and you can concentrate on answering the other questions without worrying if you have time to do the essay (besides essays are generally worth more points then questions). Once you're done your final and hand it in...breath and forget about it, you did your best and your hard work will soon pay off so sit back relax because you are one step closer to your vacation!
I know most of those were common sense but I hoped they help you and once again GOOD LUCK and enjoy your vacation!
Oh and if any of you need help with a certain topic from a class (preferably Math or Science but any class works) just let me know I can try my best to help you and explain it to you.
