I’ve always loved Harry Potter. It inspired me to read and to love the English language. Hollywood however can sometimes have a “Hollywood Effect” on movies based off books. The only HP movies that I feel truly stuck to the book were The Sorcerer’s Stone and Deathly Hallows pt 1 (and Chamber of Secrets to some extent).

 

I just watched DH pt 2, and I’m not sure about it. It was touching, entertaining, fun, relatively close to the book, but some things irked me.

1. The Battle of Hogwarts being mixed up. I know it was to lengthen the movie, but so many events were mixed up. Such as Ron and Hermione kissing in the Chamber of Secrets and fighting Nagini instead of Bellatrix. Neville never said his best line: “I’ll join you when Hell freezes over!” to Voldemort. Don’t get me started on Volemort’s fight with Harry. Voldemort was supposed to go crazy over the death of Bellatrix and try to kill Molly. The fight with Harry was supposed to last, what, one spell? There was supposed to be a crowd when Voldemort was struck down!

 

2. NOT SHOWING FRED’S DEATH! It was the most depressing part of the book series. ”The ghost of his last laught, still etched upon his face.” The book made me cry. But the movie made him a mere casualty! Fred deserved more. Wouldn’t it have been better for them to cut time out of Harry and Voldemort’s unnecessary duel and add Fred’s death (and Percy’s return)? This left a bad taste in my mouth and kinda dampened my spirits the rest of the movie.

 

3. Rushing through the Epilogue. I won’t lie, it made me cry. But they should have done better. We didn’t see Teddy (Lupin and Tonk’s son) or Victore (Bill and Fleur’s daughter). We didn’t see the brotherly dynamic between Albus and James. We hardly saw Harry associate with his two best friends! And their make up; did they spend too much of their budget on explosives? Hermione looked 20, and Harry just didn’t shave. At least Ron put on some weight and they did alright with Ginny.

 

4. They hardly mentioned Ariana Dumbledore. I’ll stop there.

 

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the movie. Other moments were great. The forcefield, the bank robbery, Snape’s death, Bellatrix’ death (NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU… DOG!) and Harry’s talk with both Albus’ were highlights. They just should have fixed up some parts.

 

Opinions? Sorry it went longer than I intended; I got into it!

I didn't read the books, but I watched most of the movies. I just thought it was kind of a mediocre ending, like the other movies were better. Of course I didn't read the books, so idk how much better the book was.

LOVED THEM!!

The seventh book seemed like it happened way too fast (I would think it'd take a lot longer to gather all the horcruxes), it was way too random (no real plot except to wrap up the series), and there were unnecessary plot elements (the Deathly Hallows) being introduced so late in the series.

Looking back at the series, there seems to be a lot of unanswered questions, at least in my opinion. For example, what if Harry had died before Voldemort was revived in the fourth book? There'd be no blood to use to revive him so there'd be no need to destroy horcruxes or anything like that. Also it was obvious that Dumbledore knew that Riddle's diary was a horcrux so why hadn't he begun searching for the rest of them until right before the sixth year?

 

As for the movie, I'm not really sure how I'd compare it to the book. It wasn't my favourite movie, but it wasn't my favourite book either. They were both entertining.

I did find some things that just stuck out as strange. First, in the scene where they flew away on the dragon, they jumped off into the water. I don't remember if that happened in the book or not, but it seems very foolish. They had no idea how shallow or deep that water would be. Also I remember in Gringots one of them (I think Hermione) used a spell to break their fall. So why hadn't she at least broken their fall when they jumped? Also right after that, Harry referred to Voldemort as "you know who". It has been made a plot element that Harry does not say that ever, so there had to have been some mistake there (even if it's in the book that way, which I don't remember).

And for some reason the spiders were on the side of the Death Eaters. I thought it was the other way in the book. Or they were on Hagrid's side at least.

And I'd have to agree with OblivionRider about the casting on that last scene. They were all way too young. They should've used actors who were actually older

I don't hate the movie, but I guess I don't like the making of it. It could have been so mutch better. Since it was a a book adaption I didn't expect it to be awesome. The book is a different story, I loved it so mutch. It was pure satisfaction of epicness.

The movie was alright, loved it.

But they could have done better.

Still, it was enough for all people on the cinema cry when it ended.

Voldemort's name was a taboo, so if anyone had said it, Voldemort, death eaters, and snatchers would be attracted. That's why McGonagall said that Flitwick should use his name because he's coming to kill them anyway. That was a problem in the first part because in the book Harry says Voldemort and that's why the snatchers find them.

 

The only part of the movie that bothered me was that George had his ear again. You would think someone would have noticed that. But I didn't even notice it my first time through.

I actually thought they did a great job following the book. I mean it wasn't exactly like the book but it was extremely close.

 

The only two things that annoyed me the most was they barely even mention Teddy Lupin, and how short Fred's death scene was. I was so angry about Fred's death scene...I mean it was like only a few seconds and you can't even tell he's died until they show the scene where everyone's crying over him and then you realize he's died. They screwed that part up badly. The book was soooo much better. I cried reading Fred's death in the book but in the movie I just turn to my mom and complain about how they messed that part up until she tells me to shut up because she's trying to watch.

Snape's death was alright but when Harry watched Snape's memories and he finds Lily died...that's when it got me.

 

Anyways, it was still a great way to end the series.

Harry called him “You Know Who” because there was a taboo on the word “Voldemort.” Basically, if anybody said the word, Voldemort would know where that person was. Beaten-to-it.

I prefer both.

I have only four problems with the movie:

 

1) Everything to do with Ariana Dumbledore, for those of you who read the book, need I say more?*

2) Hardly mentioned Teddy Lupin at all.

3) Fred's death scene was... disappointing... (Well, it was a death scene, but... oh you know what I mean...)

4) I always pictured Molly screaming her line as she attacked Bellatrix, but at least it was in the movie.

Since Harry had the Eldar Wand, it's natural that Expeliarmus becomes stronger than Avada Kedavra. It was so powerful that in the book it didn't even last a second. Expeliarmus pushed Avada Kedavra to Voldemort and killed him.

^Yup. Theoretically, since Harry was the master of the Eldar Wand, shouldn’t have none of the spells Voldemort used against Harry that he blocked in their movie duel worked. Shouldn’t they have rebounded and hit him?

That's what Expeliarmus did. If it would another spell, for example Stupefy, it wouldn't work.
