Who in your opinion, is a terrible voice actor and ruined the character they were voicing in the English/Japanese versions of the Kingdom Hearts games? My opinion is, all the voice actors in the Japanese version were pretty decent. But I can name a few English VAs that couldn't voice act AT ALL. Jason Dohring, Willa Holland, Leonard Nemoy, David Boreanaz, Mena Suvari. . . . Shall the list go on?

As great as Leonard Nimoy is, as a guy, he just wasn't right for the role of Master Xehanort, imo. I don't like Aqua's voice actor lived up to her Japanese equivalent, either. Birth by Sleep bothers me the most because I actually played that one in Japanese first. =/

 

I think Marluxia's voice was a bit lackluster in re:CoM. I was looked forward to something.... else.

 

And I'll always prefer Billy Zane over Richard Epcar for Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, but there's no helping it now.

I thought Hayden did pretty well. Not superb, but definetly not anything awful.

Why doesn't Kairi look like Hayden.

Yeah, I don't mind Epcar doing Apprentice Xehanort and Terra!nort. Hell, I didn't even notice he was doing Riku!nort in KH2, because when Riku did speak with Ansem's voice, it actually just made logical sense that if you magically had someone else's voice there's no way you'd sound the same. I think the depth of the voice is spot on, but the accent and grand flourish of words is a bit off. Even Xemnas' voice actor has an enormous flourish to his speech pattern. Can you imagine anyone trying to imitate that?

 

I give Epcar lots of credit, those are some pretty hard shoes to fill. I just don't think they should have replaced the archive files at the beginning of KH2. That wasn't even necessary, because the character itself wasn't even in KH2.=/ If I hadn't grown up watching Digimon and instantly recognized him as Myotismon's VA, I wouldn't have even complained. I already recognized his voice too well, so I couldn't handle the sudden change. I've grown used to it now, because I love re:CoM, but Billy Zane's voice will always sound..... sexier. -w-~?

 

(At everyone else here arguing over which girls got voiced by which actresses when: What if one of them had been suddenly switched out for a new one and you recognized the new girl from say, anything you'd seen a million times, wouldn't that be just strange? I mean, what if Kim Possible's VA voiced Namine? You'd be all WTF. That's what it was like for me when I heard Xehanort's Heartless suddenly played by Myotismon's VA. =/)

That's right Zane did sound sexier, but Epcar did a better job at delivering the role in a more darker way.

Epcar is awful in everything he does.

Roxas's and Ventus's voice makes me happy I Jesse McCartney I think he did a great job with both of them.

EPCAR is EPIC! James Patrick Stuart nailed it with Xigbar.

Willa holland was AMAZING as Aqua! so was Terra, their voices fit the characters. How dare u criticize Aqua for sounding dull. Her voice fit the character the most of all three of them. She did a mcu hbetter job than Kairi did , kairi sounded fake, esp. in kh1. When i watch Aqua it REALLY feels like its her.

Sorry, I was thinking of young Kairi, which was not voiced by Hayden. But she did appear in Blank Points. But I think Alyson did do the voice of Xion in BBS. I could be wrong. But you're right, you can really tell the difference and thanks.

i'm really confused as to who voiced Xion in bbs. the role sin't credited, where is the sold proof that she/hayden did do the voice? Different websites say diff things

Willa Holland's voice was nice just her delivery of the lines. Jason Dohring had an okay voice same problem though.

I don't understand why everyone says the Japanese VA are so superior, when they don't know a word of Japanese. (Not targeting anyone on this thread--I've just noticed it a lot on this site and tons of others.)

 

I, for one, have no opinion on the Japanese VA, because I don't know Japanese, therefore, I can't make any kind of criticism on how that line should have been delivered. I don't know the grammar, or the ways they interpret tones of voice. So I hold no opinion on the Japanese VA.

 

However, I do know English, so I can critique the English VA.

 

VA is alot easier said than done. It's hard to convey a sentence to a microphone in the right way, especially since they are not 100% fully acting it out (as in body language and facial expression.) VA are trying to match the emotion they seen/feel in the script and sometimes on the screen in front of them, and because they are only providing the Voice, and not the body language or the facial expressions, it can sometimes feel "lacked." (For lack of a better word.... ha ha ha)

 

For Kingdom Hearts production, I thought all of them did decently fine, knowing how hard it is to actually Voice Act a character. I give tons of kudos for Haley! Face it, Sora has tons of cheesy lines, which is NOT his fault, (it's the English translators/script writers) but Haley was able to deliver them respectively. Same goes for Jesse McCartney for Roxas/Ventus. I thought he did a wonderful job.

 

Now, as for the VA who I thought did the worst, was without a doubt, Aerith (Mena Suvari). UGH! The worst acting I've ever heard!!! Worst! She took way too many awkward pauses and her voice was shaky and just sounded completely fake! If she makes another appearance, PLEASE either get the VA from Crisis Core or Mandy Moore--ANYONE but her voice from KHII. David Boreanaz (Leon) was pretty bad too, but Aerith in KHII takes the cake!

 

Now, as for Jason Dohring, (Terra), I didn't necessarily think he was awful. Just.... he could have done more. His VA was very flat and emotionless 97% of the time.

 

I felt the very same the first time I heard Aqua speak, but as the game went on, Willa's voice really grew on me, and I didn't mind her VA as much anymore. She still could have had more emotion and personality.

 

As for the Namine VA--between the two of them, I think I prefer Meghan over Brittany Snow. Brittany had a shy voice, which I guess fits Namine, but... I don't know... there was something about how Meghan delivered her lines that makes me prefer her voice over Brittany.

but i really do agree with you!! i honestly loved both of namine's VA's (or maybe im just biased??) & i didnt think terra & aquas voices were too bad. ive definitely heard worse so...

 

i love most of the VAs in kh simply bc they have grown on me. im not a VA myself (or will i ever be) so im not going to go off judging them either : (

Master Xehanort sounded like a pirate.

I got used to it.

 

Terra sounded bored.

I got used to it.

 

KH1 Sora hadn't hit puberty.

I got used to it.

 

Aqua sounded as if she was stoned.

I got used to it.

 

 

I guess the moral is that after listening to Japanese voices, the English ones are difficult to listen to, but they grow on you after a while.

The worst voice actor in the entire series is Terra's voice. (I don't know the name)

 

Here is why: I like Terra, and I like the voice, but Terra should have a very dark voice, instead of one that is sometimes easy to mix up with Ventus. (AKA, Terra's voice is too high pitch)

 

Roxas has a GREAT voice, but sometimes he really messes it up. Mainly the, "Who else will I have Ice cream with?!" scene. That would have been a TEAR JERKING scene... if he didn't sound like he actually wanted ice cream.

 

And then we have Quinton Flynn. Who could not like that voice? That voice is is amazing. It goes PERFECT with Axel, and makes the character even cool. (20% cooler anyone?)

This is to such an extent that Axel is easily the best character in the series. He is cool, his voice is amazing, he has a friggen Keyblade now, and, come on guys, don't lie. Axel is kinda hot. (Yes, I'm a guy. No I'm not gay... I don't think. o.0 )

 

Other good examples are Ventus. Who's voice is also amazing, and fits the character perfectly. (not to mention Ven has some of the best dialogue in the series)

 

And who could forget Riku. Dang Riku has an epic voice. You can't hear him yelling: "You're gonna lose it all!!" without thinking, "he sounds so awesome!!"

 

Anyway, sorry for me long ranting. Just stating my opinion!
