Recently I've seen and heard a lot of people (mostly girls) complaining about how some men treat women like trash, or how if a man threatens a woman in any way, physically, mentally, emotionally, etc, then that man is scum and very 'unman-like.'
Now I'm not denying what they're saying, I think it's wrong for someone to hurt or threaten someone else, but I think that society has developed too much for women to still use the "oh I'm a lady therefore I deserve more respect and care" card.
Women have fought for centuries to gain equal rights in society and today they are seen as equals amongst men. Women now have jobs that were stereotypical mens jobs and vice versa. Women want themselves to be seen just as tough, successful, academic, etc as men but they still expect the privileges they associate with being female. They still call upon the fact that they are physically weaker than men and use this as an excuse as to why they should be treated with greater respect and basically in a better way then men.
If a man crashes his car into another man's car and an argument breaks out, there will be little talk of how threatened either party felt, whereas if a woman hit a man's car and he reacted the same way to her then everybody would look at him as if he's a bad man, when in reality he's not.
Now I'm not saying that it's alright for a man to pick a fight with a women if he wants to, I am merely suggesting that some women need to be made more aware of the reality of the world around them.
Personally, I for one still open doors for women, treat them with respect and care, but I do the exact same for men. The difference between me and some other men is that I realise that some girls are more fragile in some departments and when in a social environment I cannot act the same towards them as I would amongst my male friends (in terms of things I say or physicality amongst friends).
Then there's a case for misandrists. To be quite honest, they annoy me a lot. I hate how they think they are so superior and that men are rotten for doing things that really aren't that bad.
EDIT: I'd also just like to point out that there are many times when the girls do have good reason to complain. A lot of guys a douches and can be very offensive and dangerous, and as you guys have eluded to, women often cannot roam the streets at night due to fear of being taken advantage of. So I'm not saying women need to change, just some people's views need to change (as have mine since I wrote this post).
This is more-or-less my opinion but I try to base it off solid facts that I've picked up over time. To conclude, I think in today's modern society, as men we still need to give women an extra amount of respect. This isn't necessary for a lot of men because they are very respectful to everyone anyway, but for the general guy, then we still have to do what they want, because let's face it, a guy will do what a girl wants for some reasons more than others, and in the words of Beyonce, girls run the world.
P.S. This does not fit for every man and/or women, just aimed at the people who still fit into this category.
