Posted April 3, 201214 yr If I am going to play my PS2 on a hd tv should I buy component cables? I am new to the Sony brand so I always have a lot of questions.
April 3, 201214 yr My friend got HD cables for his PS2 and he loved it. I have a standard tv, so I've got nothing to personally compare.
April 3, 201214 yr There is no difference between the AV and Component cables. The PS2 was designed to output 480p max and no more. Emulators can emulate 1080p HD though as they aren't restricted to output 480p.
April 3, 201214 yr A component cable allows a slightly higher resolution output. Not HD. It's also not required, unless your TV doesn't actually have red White and Yellow slots. It's not worth it, as far as I'm concerned, but it comes down to how much you care about the difference between 360p and 480p
April 3, 201214 yr there is a slight improvement in quality if you use component cables with HD TV but this affects only games with progressive scan like jak and daxter the lost frontier or shadow of the collosus, games like kh2,1 only have a slight improvement in quality but they dont have progressive scan

April 3, 201214 yr What TV do you have? just one more advice,a few monts ago i was searching too for component cables for my ps2 with my new HD tv(i wanted to try KH2,KH1 and see if the quality is better ),you may find these cables at many different prices, some may be expensive and some may be cheaper, buy the cheapest cables you can get,it turns out that all these cables offer the same quality the only difference is the manufracturer so get the cheapest you can get and you will be fine This is the same with HDMI. Companies like Sony, Samsung, Crest etc do not make the cable. They simply pay the company that makes the cable to put their name on it. So yes, you do just buy a cheap one from so no name brand because if it works it will be exactly the same as all the others.
April 4, 201214 yr The tv I will be playing on is a Panasonic. Very good. I have one myself, best TV brand definitely. But I need to know more, how many inches? Resolution? How many AV and Component slots?
