If not the reports, then check some of the nomura interviews around the time of KH2 and BBS. It is discussed that their appearance changed when they became nobodies. The only special cases are Roxas (who obviously has connections to Ven's heart and thus has his appearance) and Namine (though she also fits this description a little too).
