PROLOGUE:

(A large castle sits in the distance. The remnants of a once beautiful city sit at the foot of the castle. A large group of undead and people, who are still alive, are ravaging the city, killing off the remaining citizens. A group of the undead breaks off from the city rushing into the distance. They are rushing toward a lone woman. She appears to be in her late 30s, early 40s. This woman has short blonde hair, glistening silver armor, and a thin scar on her left cheek. She appears to be war-torn and depressed. She clutches the cross necklace, embracing her neck. She tugs on it, ripping the necklace. Her hand glows with a white light and the cross expands in size. She lowers her hand and a blade extends out of one end of the cross. She glares at the oncoming group of undead. She extends her free hand and releases a flurry of ice. The group becomes encased in ice. She rushes at them and cuts them down, as they are powerless to stop her. Many of the other monsters in the city see her coming and decide to greet her. She doesn’t slow down, ready to end this. She cuts through a few of the first monsters and then starts waving her hand around and mumbling under her breath. A lightning bolt strikes down, paralyzing a large chunk of the army. She continues on, shredding the undead, mercilessly. She appears to have the upper hand for a while, but then their numbers begin to overwhelm her. Undead monsters rise from the group, adding to her problems. One of the undead monsters clubs her in the face, knocking her to the ground. She quickly looks up to see that they’ve surrounded her. But, a flurry of arrows tears through each of their skulls. Suddenly, the woman is scooped up off the ground by a large heavy-set man.)

Woman: Matt! You showed up!

(The woman wraps her arms around his neck, as tears pour down her cheeks.)

Matt: Yeah I did! You should’ve never come here by yourself!

(Flurries of arrows continue to spray down on the undead around them. The woman stops hugging him and he sets her down.)

Woman: I had no other choice, you guys wouldn’t help me!

Matt: Then you shouldn’t have come at all!

Woman: And just let them win, after everything they’ve done! No thanks.

(She turns and picks up her cross/sword. An arrow soars past her head and into the skull of an undead, running up behind her.)

Woman: I can see that Rusty’s here.

(Rusty waves at them, from atop the nearby cliff. He’s a thin, tall guy, with a bow and arrow and a deadly aim.)

Matt: We were worried about you. It seems that we had a right to be.

Woman: Thanks for your help, but it would’ve been nice to know that I had it in the first place.

Matt: I’m sorry. But, this is a big job for just the three of us. Things ain’t what they use to be. What makes you think you can take this guy down, if even HE couldn't?

Woman: …I’m not sure that I can. But, I have to. If I don’t do it now, he’s only going to get stronger.

(She rushes into the city, prepared to face the undead army.)

Matt: Dammit, this is no time to be stubborn!

(Matt rushes after her, helping her take down the undead army. Between the two of them, they make it look like a piece of cake. She slices them apart and Matt punches them in the face, smashing their skulls in.)

Matt: If you think you have what it takes then get your ass over here! You don’t have time to waste your strength on these idiots!

(She nods her head and rushes toward Matt. Matt scoops her up and tosses her toward the castle. She mumbles something under her breath and the castle wall collapses, allowing her to soar inside, unharmed. She lands just beneath a set of spiraling stairs. She quickly makes her way up the stairs, stopping outside a massive set of double doors. She takes a deep breath, as a tear runs down her cheek.)

Woman: It finally ends here. I’m just sorry that it has to end like this…

(She kicks the doors in and readies her sword. She sees a thin silver-haired man clothed in skin-tight black clothes, turned away from her. He is looking out at the city.)

Man: It’s been too long, Eva.

CHAPTER 9:

EXT. THE BRADFORD HOME (SERIAH)-EVENING

(The carriage stops outside the house. The door opens and a well-fit, middle-aged man steps out, smiling. He has dark hair and a beard with grey streaks. Eva holds back tears of joy, as her and her mother get out of the carriage to greet her father. Eva rushes over to her dad, unable to contain her joy.)

Eva: Dad!

(Her father takes her in his arms and holds her, tightly. He kisses her head.)

Mr. Bradford: I’ve missed you, so much, baby girl.

(Mr. Bradford releases Eva and smiles at her. He takes her in one arm and looks up at his wife, who is strolling toward them.)

Mr. Bradford: Lily.

(Mr. Bradford lets go of Eva and hugs and kisses his wife.)

Lily: I’m so glad that you’ve made it back, safely.

Mr. Bradford: As am I.

(Mr. Bradford takes both Eva and Lily in each arm.)

Mr. Bradford: It’s good to be back and with both of my favorite women.

(They head into the house, as a happy family.)

INT. SERIAHN STREETS

(Daniel and the group are still roaming the streets, taking in their new surroundings. Daniel suddenly stops walking, causing the rest of the group to stop, as well.)

Matt: What’s wrong, Dan?

(Daniel and the group are looking at an 8 year old boy, sitting in a nearby alleyway. He appears to be filthy and cold. Daniel takes a step toward the boy, but stops, as he sees a knight walk over to the boy. He hands the boy a blanket and some bread. The knight sits down next to the boy.)

Knight: Don’t worry, everything will be okay. Whenever you’ve gathered your strength, I’ll help you over to the orphanage.

Boy: Thanks, mister…

(The boy coughs heavily and then rests his head on the knight’s arm, as he eats the bread under the warmth of the blanket. Daniel walks over to the knight.)

Daniel: That’s really kind of you, sir.

Knight: I’m always happy to help. It’s why I became a knight.

Daniel: Wait, you mean it’s your job to do things like this; to help random strangers?

Knight: Of course. We’re here to support our nation and the people that live in it. That means anything from fighting in the war, upholding the law and safety of our people, and making sure that the orphans don’t have to go through any needless suffering. I’ll give my life for my country and I’m sure that every other Benegaian Knight would do the same.

Boy: I think I can walk.

Knight: That’s good, but save your strength for another day.

(The knight scoops the boy and blanket off of the ground.)

Knight: Have a great day, buddy. Be safe, you hear?

Daniel: Of course.

(The knight walks away, leaving Daniel with a lot to think about.)

Jack: You alright, Dan?

Daniel: …Yeah. Guys, I don’t know about you, but I think it’s time we stopped wasting our lives away.

Matt: What do you mean?

Daniel: We’ve just been wandering around, with no real life or purpose. But, this could be our purpose, our home. This city is beautiful. It’s beautiful, because the people here care. They care about each other and they care about their nation. I think that we should be a part of that. I think that we should become knights.

Matt: Are you serious, Dan?

Daniel: I haven’t been more serious about anything in my life.

Jack: Not even Eva?

Daniel: Well, this is a close second. But, I’m serious guys. I realize that Ben’s too young for now, but who’s with me? I really want you guys to be by my side on this. But, I’d understand if you guys didn’t want to. What do you say?

(The group seems to think it over, for a moment.)

EXT. THE KNIGHT’S BARRACKS- MORNING

(Daniel, Jack, Rusty, and Matt, along with several other men are standing outside of the barracks. They appear to be awaiting someone. A knight comes out of the barracks.)

Knight: So, you boys want to become knights, do you? I must warn you that it won’t be an easy road. This will be your last chance to back out. Any takers?

(No one moves. The man smiles as he strokes his beard.)

Knight: I hope I see that same dedication throughout your training. I am Commander Bradford and I will be training you boys for the next 2 years, so that one day, you can call yourself men. So that one day, you can call yourselves Knights of the Benegaian Brotherhood.

Only when her mom's around. lol

CHAPTER 10:

INT. KNIGHT’S BARRACKS

(The new recruits enter the barracks, each of them sporting shaved heads. Commander Bradford enters the barracks.)

Mr. Bradford: Alright, boys. Grab a bed and choose wisely. It’ll be the same bed that you’ll sleep in for the next 2 years. Get settled in and then meet me outside in 5 minutes. That’s where we’ll begin your training.

(Commander Bradford exits the barracks, leaving the boys to get acquainted with their new home.)

Jack: Dan, he said his name is Bradford?! Do you think he might be Eva’s dad?

Daniel: Yeah, Jack. I do think that, actually.

Matt: Yeah, but Eva said her dad was off fighting in the war.

Jack: Maybe, he came back.

Recruit: Commander Bradford recently got back from the war. I’m surprised that you guys didn’t know that considering how famous he is. He survived on Nethergaia’s soil for nearly 10 years. Many knights haven’t even survived more than a few weeks out there. He’s definitely a legend among men.

(The group stares at him, unsure of what to say.)

Recruit: Sorry, if I was eavesdropping. My name’s Hunter.

(Hunter extends his hand and shakes each of their hands.)

Daniel: I’m Daniel.

Matt: Matt.

Jack: Jack.

(Rusty nods, as he shakes Hunter’s hand.)

Daniel: That’s Rusty. He doesn’t talk.

Hunter: We’re lucky to have gotten Commander Bradford as our Master. He’s tough, but he’s the best out there. I’m sure that’s why they’ve got him training recruits, now.

(The boys pick out their beds and then quickly head outside to greet Commander Bradford. Commander Bradford takes a look at the 10 recruits. He steps up to the far right recruit.)

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Recruit: Connor Slayton, sir!

(Mr. Bradford steps to the side and faces the next recruit.)

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Recruit: Dante Morgan, sir!

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Daniel: Daniel, uhhh, Ross.

Mr. Bradford: …Excuse me?

Daniel: I said Daniel Ross.

Mr. Bradford: I heard what you said. I’m talking about what I didn’t hear you say.

Daniel: Uh, I’m not sure I understand?

(Commander Bradford grabs Daniel by his collar.)

Mr. Bradford: You will show me respect, boy! When speaking to me, you will refer to me as sir or Commander Bradford! Do I make myself clear?!

Daniel: Of course…sir!

(Commander Bradford stares at Daniel, deciding what to make of him. He soon faces the next recruit.)

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Matt: Matthew Ross, sir!

Mr. Bradford: Another Ross, huh? Are you boys brothers?

Matt: Yes, sir.

Mr. Bradford: You are very out of shape, son. Are you sure that you can handle this? It won’t be easy.

Matt: I won’t abandon my brothers, sir!

Mr. Bradford: Brothers? There are more of you?

Matt: Two more, sir.

Mr. Bradford: That’s very commendable, Matthew. I hope that you retain that same enthusiasm for the next 2 years.

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Hunter: Hunter Cray, sir!

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Jack: Jack Ross, sir!

Mr. Bradford: So, you’re one of the Ross brothers? Were you adopted, son? Or were they?

Jack: Blood and the color of our skin, has nothing to do with our brotherhood. It’s a bond of friendship that makes us brothers, sir.

Mr. Bradford: So, if I understand this correctly, you all joined with the intention of sticking together?

Jack: You are correct, sir.

Mr. Bradford: What happens if Matthew is killed on the battlefield? How about Daniel? Would you remain loyal to your new brotherhood?

(Commander Bradford steps closer to Jack.)

Mr. Bradford: Or would you quit, because your “brothers” are gone?

Jack: I would remain a knight, sir.

Mr. Bradford: Are you just telling me what I want to hear, or do you actually mean what you say? We are here to uphold our nation’s laws and traditions. We are here to protect innocent lives. Most importantly, we are here to fight for our Lord. I will not tolerate anyone here, who is not truly committed to the brotherhood.

Jack: I would not quit, sir. It’s not what my brothers would want. They would want me to continue fighting, just as I would want them to continue fighting.

Mr. Bradford: …

Jack: Sir.

Mr. Bradford: Good answer. I hope that you continue to live by that answer.

(Commander Bradford steps up to the next recruit.)

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Recruit: Jonathon Ramón, sir!

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Recruit: Joshua Grant, sir!

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Recruit: Dustin Lamont, sir!

Mr. Bradford: Name.

Matt: Rusty Ross, sir!

(Commander Bradford takes his attention away from Rusty and hurries over to Matt. He stares at him for a moment.)

Mr. Bradford: I’m not sure if you were aware, but I was not speaking to you.

Matt: He’s mute, sir.

Mr. Bradford: Excuse me?

Matt: He doesn’t speak. I haven’t heard him say a word, for as long as I’ve known him, sir.

(Commander Bradford walks away from Matt and stares at Rusty, for a moment.)

Mr. Bradford: Trust me, within the next week you’ll be in so much pain. You won’t be able to hold back your voice, any longer. I recommend that you show me some respect and tell me your name, now. If you don’t, I can assure you that I will make it far worse on you.

(Rusty gulps, but utters no sound.)

Mr. Bradford: Alright, boys. For your warm up you will run around the city perimeter. Meet me back here, if you still have the guts to continue.

(Commander Bradford takes off running past the group. They follow him to the outside of the city and begin their grueling training.)

CHAPTER 11:

EXT. THE BARRACKS-MIDDAY

(The recruits are struggling as they rapidly pump out push-up after push-up. Matt falls to his stomach, but quickly pushes through and rises back up and continues on. Daniel appears to still be going strong, despite sweat pouring from his face.)

Mr. Bradford: Keep going! Faster! I didn’t tell you to stop and I know I didn’t tell you to slow down!

(Hunter begins to drop, but catches himself with his other elbow. He vomits onto the dirt, but quickly continues his push-ups shortly after. Commander Bradford squats down and yells in Hunter’s face.)

Mr. Bradford: Don’t you dare quit on me, boy!

Hunter: I wouldn’t dream of it, sir! Graaaahhhh!

(Commander Bradford rises and walks around, studying the recruits. He walks over to Daniel and squats down next to him.)

Mr. Bradford: How many have you done so far, Ross?!

Daniel: Grrruuuh! I’m not exactly sure, sir! I lost count a while back!

Mr. Bradford: Well, if you lost count, then how are you supposed to know when you’ve improved?!

(Commander Bradford kicks his side, knocking him over and on to his back.)

Mr. Bradford: Back into position, boy! Start from one and this time I want you to count, out loud, so all your “brothers” can hear you!

(Daniel gets into position and continues his push-ups.)

Daniel: One! Two!

Mr. Bradford: Excuse me?!

Daniel: I apologize, sir! One, sir! Two, sir! Three, sir!

Mr. Bradford: That’s better!

Daniel: Four, sir! Five, sir! Six, sir!

Mr. Bradford: That’s what I like to hear! Hard work!

Daniel: Nine, sir! Ten, sir!

EXT. BARRACKS-AFTERNOON

(Hunter and Rusty are practicing swordplay, using fake wooden blades, as everyone else takes a breather and studies their movements. Rusty seems to be at a disadvantage, while Hunter appears to be quite experienced in the field of swordplay.)

Mr. Bradford: Parry, Rusty! Feel out Hunter’s attacks and retaliate!

(Rusty doesn’t know what Commander Bradford is talking about and is unable to benefit from his advice. Hunter turns up the aggression and sweeps Rusty’s legs out from under him.)

Mr. Bradford: Daniel, you’re up.

(Daniel walks over and helps Rusty up. He pats him on the back and Rusty hands him his sword. Daniel prepares himself, as does Hunter.)

Mr. Bradford: Begin!

(Daniel starts off on the offensive, while Hunter reacts defensively. Hunter blocks the incoming attack and quickly retaliates. Daniel ducks underneath Hunter’s blade and hits him in the stomach with the hilt of his blade. Hunter stumbles back, a bit frustrated. Daniel extends his blade, as if enticing Hunter into attacking. Hunter knocks Daniel’s sword aside and quickly moves in, turning on the offensive. Daniel quickly becomes over-whelmed, as Hunter reveals that he is far more experienced in swordplay than Daniel. Hunter knocks Daniel’s sword out of his hand and puts the end of his sword in Daniel’s face.)

Mr. Bradford: Very good, Hunter. You appear to have quite a bit of experience.

Hunter: I’ve been practicing in swordplay for more than five years, now.

Mr. Bradford: How about you Daniel? How much experience do you have with a blade?

Daniel: Uh, none, sir. This is the first time that I’ve held a sword.

(Commander Bradford appears surprised.)

Mr. Bradford: Never? That was pretty good for a beginner. You’re not just trying to talk a big game, are you?

Daniel: Of course not, sir.

Mr. Bradford: Then I’ll take your word for it. Alright, boys, it’s time for lunch. Get cleaned up and meet up in the mess hall. Dismissed!

The group: Yes, sir!

INT. THE MESS HALL

(The recruits have taken a shower and changed out of their filthy training clothes. They are sitting in a cafeteria, eating a hardy lunch. They are sitting at a table, big enough to fit the ten of them. Commander Bradford is at the head of the table. Other groups of recruits are sitting at separate tables, with their respective commanders.)

Mr. Bradford: Eat up, boys. After lunch you’ll have some relaxation time, in order to read the Bible. After that, you’ll be back to training.

INT. THE BARRACKS

(The recruits are relaxing in their beds, as Commander Bradford walks in, carrying a stack of Bibles. He passes one out to each of the recruits.)

Mr. Bradford: Just read as much of it as you can. Once I get back, we’ll return to training.

(Commander Bradford exits the barracks. The recruits each open their Bible. Daniel, Matt, Jack, and Rusty each look at each other, worried. Hunter notices Matt opening his Bible and staring at the pages.

Hunter: Um, you do know that you’re holding it upside down, don’t you?

Matt: Oh, Of course! I just thought that it might be interesting, to uh, read upside down…

Hunter: …Do you know how to read?

Matt: …No. I don’t.

Daniel: I can’t read.

Jack: I don’t know how to read, either.

(Rusty slams his Bible shut and crosses his arms.)

Hunter: What’d you guys grow up under a rock, or something?

Jack: If only we had that luxury.

(Daniel, Jack, and Matt laugh, while Rusty smiles.)

Daniel: We’re homeless. Well, I guess not anymore. But, we’ve lived most of our lives, as orphans. We didn’t have anyone to teach us how to read.

Jack: I learned a little, but I don’t know a whole lot.

Hunter: I can teach you, if you’d like?

Daniel: Really? If it wouldn’t be too much trouble!

Hunter: Of course not. I’ll do anything for my comrades.

Daniel: Thank you, in advance.

(Hunter smiles and then gets up from his bed, closing his Bible. He grabs a sheet of paper and begins to teach the boys how to read and write.)

CHAPTER 12:

EXT. THE BARRACKS

(The boys go through the next many months of their training, pushing through each and every trial that Commander Bradford throws at them. Of course, some of the recruits don’t rise to the challenge, quite as well. As time goes on, the miscellaneous recruits begin to give up, leaving Daniel, Rusty, Matt, Jack, and Hunter. The five of them, make it through each obstacle and grow stronger with each passing day. More than anything, Daniel proves himself to be quite adept with a blade, defeating each of the other recruits, every single time. During their archery training, Rusty is the only one to hit a bull’s-eye, every time he fires an arrow, even after many of his arrows have already pierced the center of the target. Matt proves to be the strongest of the bunch, although he doesn’t find himself slimming down, at all. Jack doesn’t seem to have any specific talent, but he proves himself to be quite the “jack of all trades.” However, it appears that Hunter seems to be falling behind each of the other recruits. He does well with his training, but compared to his comrades, he definitely falls short of the mark.)

INT. THE BARRACKS-MORNING

(Daniel is sitting on his bed, reading his Bible, while the other recruits are packing their things. Jack looks up from packing and smiles at Daniel.)

Jack: You sure have taken a liking to that book, haven’t you?

(Daniel looks up from the Bible and smiles at Jack. He closes it and sits up. He sets the book on his bed.)

Daniel: Yeah, I really do enjoy it. How about you?

Jack: Yeah, it’s pretty good. It’s got some good stories.

Daniel: I know. I especially like the one about David and Goliath. No matter how big his obstacle, that kid would not back down. That’s something I can really respect.

Hunter: You’ve never heard the story of David and Goliath, before?

Daniel: No, not before I started training here. To be honest, I really didn’t know who God was, either.

Hunter: Are you serious?! How could you grow up in Benegaia and not once hear about him?

Daniel: Well, I heard people talk about him, before. But, I never really knew anything about him. He sounds amazing.

Hunter: He really is.

Daniel: Really? Have you met him?

Hunter: Hahahaha! No one’s met him. He doesn’t live here on Earth. He lives in Heaven.

Daniel: Oh, right.

(Commander Bradford enters the barracks. The recruits all stand up straight and await his orders.)

Mr. Bradford: At ease, boys. You’re on vacation. I expect respect, but you can still relax.

(The recruits laugh and go back to their business. Commander Bradford walks over to Daniel. Daniel stands up and faces him.)

Mr. Bradford: So, Ross, what do you plan on doing for Thanksgiving break?

Daniel: Uh, nothing much. I’m just going to visit my brother at the orphanage.

Mr. Bradford: Orphanage?

Daniel: Uh, yeah. He’s staying there, while we train here.

Mr. Bradford: He doesn’t have anywhere to stay, other than the orphanage?

Daniel: Unfortunately, no. Our parents died shortly after he was born.

Mr. Bradford: No one should have to be alone on Thanksgiving. If you would like, you and your brothers could come over to my house and have dinner with my family?

Daniel: Really?

Mr. Bradford: Of course. You’re all great kids. I’ve really enjoyed training you boys, so far, and I would hate to see you guys miss out on a Thanksgiving feast.

Daniel: What do you say, guys?

Matt: Thank you, sir, but no thank you. We’ll be alright.

Jack: Yeah, we’ll be fine. But, thank you, sir.

(Rusty puts his hands on Jack and Matt’s shoulders, signaling his answer. Daniel looks at them, in confusion.)

Mr. Bradford: How about you, Daniel?

Daniel: Uh, sure, I’d love to.

Mr. Bradford: Alright, meet me outside the barracks in about 10 minutes. I have a few things to finish up and then we’ll head over to my place.

(Commander Bradford leaves the barracks.)

Matt: Dude, did you see the way he was only worried about what you were doing? I think he’s playing favorites.

(The group laughs.)

Daniel: He’s not playing favorites; he wanted you guys to go, too. Why’d you turn him down?

Jack: Because, he’s Eva’s dad, Dan.

Daniel: You don’t know that and so what if he is? Then we’ll get to see Eva!

Jack: Yeah, but we’ll also see her mom! It seems you’ve forgotten, but she hates us, dude!

Daniel: That was almost a year ago! Things have changed. We’re not homeless, anymore.

Matt: So? You think that’ll change the way she feels about us? She doesn’t seem to be the understanding type, Dan. We’re a worthless waste of space in her eyes and that’s never going to change.

Daniel: It won’t change if we don’t try to change it.

Jack: …Its fine, Dan. We get that you like Eva and Commander Bradford. If you need to do this, then that’s all you. We’ll go hang out with Ben. But, don’t forget who your real family is.

Daniel: I’ll never forget who my real family is. But, maybe you guys have forgotten, that Eva’s a part of that family, too. Say hi to Ben for me.

(Daniel starts to leave.)

Matt: He’s your brother, Dan. You need to say hi to him. By the end of Thanksgiving break, you need to stop by the orphanage and see your little brother.

(Daniel stops at the door, as if thinking.)

Daniel: I’ll be there. But, I need to do this.

(He opens the door and leaves the barracks.)

Hunter: Did you all just forget I was here, or something?

Jack: Nah…What’s your name, again?

(Matt and Jack burst out laughing. Rusty smiles, but doesn’t make a sound. Hunter lets out a quick laugh.)

Hunter: That was a joke, right?

Matt: Yeah, Hank.

Hunter: Screw you!

(The group bursts out laughing, again.)

INT. SERIAH

(Mr. Bradford and Daniel are walking through the streets of Seriah, making their way to his house.)

Daniel: Commander Bradford…

Mr. Bradford: Please, Daniel. We’re not at the barracks, anymore. I would still like some respect, but you can drop the commander. Just call me Mr. Bradford.

Daniel: Of course, Mr. Bradford, how many people in your family will be at dinner?

Mr. Bradford: My wife and daughter. They’re the only family I have left and I cherish every moment I have with them. Unfortunately, this war has given me very little time to spend with them in the past 10 years.

Daniel: It’s good that you finally get to spend some real time with them.

Mr. Bradford: I’m very thankful for that time. Sadly, once I’m finished training you boys, I will be sent back to Nethergaia, to continue this horrible war.

Daniel: Sir, if I may ask, why are we fighting this war?

Mr. Bradford: Well, son, Nethergaia didn’t always exist. At one point, the nation of Benegaia was the only nation in existence. But, about 25 years ago, a random man began to pursue a random goal. He amassed an army and began to study sorcery, despite it being expressly forbidden by God. He decided that he did not want to follow God and rebelled against our nation, intending to start a “new world order.”

Daniel: He sounds like a fool.

Mr. Bradford: That “fool” has taken over nearly half of what use to be Benegaia. He is the current emperor of Nethergaia. He and his army murdered the religious residents of each of the towns they’ve taken over and replaced them with his followers. The thing is that we don’t know what he looks like. We haven’t been able to make it to the capital of Nethergaia, without being distracted by his army. What we do know is that he won’t stop, until he is dead. This war won’t end, until we reach the capital and put him down, once and for all.

Daniel: Do you think that we’ll win the war?

Mr. Bradford: I’m really not sure. We have them beat in terms of numbers, but they have been studying sorcery for 25 years. They’ve learned a lot and despite their small numbers, they can wipe out our men, far quicker than we can get to them.

Daniel: I think we can win. We have something that they don’t.

Mr. Bradford: Yeah? What’s that?

Daniel: We have someone watching over us; someone to believe in. We have someone that actually cares about us. Their leader doesn’t care about them. He’s just using them to reach his own sick and twisted goals.

(Mr. Bradford smiles, inspired by Daniel’s words.)

Mr. Bradford: I suppose you’re right. You’ll be a great asset to the brotherhood, Daniel. I’m sure of it.

EXT. THE BRADFORD HOME

(Daniel and Mr. Bradford walk up to the door. Mr. Bradford opens the door and sees Eva setting the table. Mr. Bradford steps in the door, concealing Daniel from her view.)

Eva: Dad!

(Eva rushes up from the table and runs into his arms. Daniel steps into the house, much to Eva’s surprise. But, before Eva can say anything, her mother enters the dining room and looks up to see Daniel standing in her house.)

Your welcome!

Dun dun dun!!!

Also, I have made a change in the latest chapter. I changed the amount of time that the war has been going on. Instead of the war having taken place for the last 25 years, it will be the last 80 years. This won't change anything that has already been written, but I came up with some new ideas today for the story, that will work better if this is the time-frame.

CHAPTER 13:

Lily: Who’s this?

(Lily hugs and kisses her husband.)

Mr. Bradford: This is Daniel Ross. He’s one of my recruits. I invited him to stay with us, over Thanksgiving Break.

Lily: How wonderful! Pleased to meet you, Daniel.

(Lily extends her hand and Daniel takes it, kissing her hand. He releases her hand and stares at her, in confusion.)

Lily: You look awfully familiar. Have we met before?

Daniel: Uh, I don’t believe so, ma’am.

Lily: I’m sorry; I’m terrible with names and faces. But, I do feel like we’ve met before.

Mr. Bradford: Lily, would you leave the boy alone. Come on, Daniel, the foods getting cold.

(Daniel and the rest of the family sit down at the table, as Lily passes them each a plate. She finishes and begins making an extra plate for Daniel.)

Lily: So, Daniel how come you aren’t spending Thanksgiving with your family?

(Eva quickly becomes uncomfortable, just waiting for her mother to realize who Daniel is.)

Daniel: Um, actually my parents aren’t around.

Lily: What are they out of town?

Mr. Bradford: Honey, would you stop with all the questions. He just got here.

Lily: I’m just trying to get to know him.

(Lily walks over and sets down a plate of food in front of Daniel.)

Mr. Bradford: There’ll be plenty for you to get to know him later. He’s a fine boy. For now, let’s just relax and have a nice family dinner.

(Eva and Daniel smile, without letting Mr. Bradford and Lily see.)

Lily: Fine. Anyway, Eva, I found a lovely young man for you, today!

Eva: Mom, can I please just eat without having to hear about you trying to find me some random guy!

Mr. Bradford: I second that.

Lily: Henry! I’m trying to help our daughter!

Henry: Help her with what? She’ll get married when she’s ready.

(Henry sets his food down.)

Henry: When I’m ready. I’m not ready.

(Henry grabs Eva’s face, by her chin and squeezes her cheeks together. Eva laughs, despite barely being able to move her lips.)

Henry: Look at her, she’s my little girl. She’s too young to get married.

Lily: You’re kidding, right?

Henry: I hoped you would’ve figured that out by now.

(Henry lets go of Eva’s face and continues eating.)

Lily: Eva, don’t listen to him. He’s obviously delusional from all that time he’s spent in Nethergaia.

Henry: You know it’s actually not that bad of a place. They have switches in their houses that turn these lights on. They don’t have to use candles!

Lily: Yes, Henry, that’s quite fascinating. But, Eva, you seriously are wasting that beautiful face. Don’t you think? What do you think, Daniel?

Daniel: Um, about what?

Lily: About Eva. Don’t you think that she’s quite a looker?

Daniel: Uh, well, yeah. I think she’s really quite attractive, alluring if you will. Her beauty appears to be very natural, as well.

(Eva blushes and her mother smiles.)

Lily: You see, Eva…

(Lily turns and sees Eva’s bright red cheeks.)

Lily: Oh my god, Eva, your face is scarlet red, right now!

(Eva quickly becomes embarrassed.)

Eva: No it’s not!

Lily: Yes, it is! You liked what he said! You know I must say that if you wanted Daniel to be your suitor, I wouldn’t disapprove…

Eva: Mom!

Lily: What? He’s a handsome young man, with goals…

Eva: God, do you ever shut up?!

Lily: Young lady!

Henry: Hey, for god’s sake, I’m trying to eat here. Would you both calm down for a few minutes? Sorry, Daniel, I thought that if I brought a guest over, they might actually quiet down for once.

Daniel: Haha, it’s quite alright, sir.

INT. HENRY AND LILY’S ROOM

(Henry and Lily are lying in bed, each of them reading a separate copy of the Bible.)

Lily: Don’t you think that Daniel and Eva would make a cute couple?

Henry: He’s a fine boy. I would trust him with Eva.

Lily: Could you tell me a little bit about him?

Henry: What do you want to know?

Lily: Well, where’s he from?

Henry: I’m not really sure. The kid’s an orphan, honey. He and some of his buddies decided to become recruits to make something out of their lives.

Lily: An orphan?! Eva doesn’t need that!

Henry: Lily, are you forgetting that my parents and YOUR parents are dead, too?

Lily: Yes, but honey, they died when we were young adults. We had time to learn how to behave, when did this boy’s parents die?

Henry: I’m not really sure, honey. I guess when he was a child.

Lily: This is important! If he didn’t have parents to teach him right from wrong, then there’s no way that he’ll be right for Eva!

Henry: Well, what’s right for Eva?

Lily: A handsome, tough, rich man, with rich tastes, a rich family, that can provide and care for her!

Henry: Wow, you actually had an answer for that?

Lily: What’s your point?

Henry: My point is…

(Henry closes his Bible and sets it down on his dresser.)

Henry: That it’s not your decision on what is right for Eva. That’s her decision. Ultimately, all we can do is raise her and love her and hope that she is happy with the decisions that she makes. Now, let’s get some sleep, before I make the decision to get a divorce.

(Lily looks at him, dumbfounded. Henry smiles and kisses her.)

Henry: It was a joke, honey. I would think that after ten years at war, I should be the one deprived of a sense of humor.

(Henry puts out the candle light and the two of them fall asleep.)

INT. THE GUEST ROOM

(Daniel is sitting in his bed, reading his Bible. Eva opens the door, holding a candle. She smiles at him and he smiles at her. He closes the Bible and sets it on her dresser. He quickly gets up and walks over to Eva, hugging her.)

Eva: I can’t believe you’re here!

(Eva’s eyes tear up, a bit.)

Daniel: I know. I was afraid that I’d never see you, again. A year later and here we are.

Eva: I like your haircut, but I do prefer your old look.

Daniel: Yeah, me too. But, this is the regulation haircut.

Eva: It’s nice, you look really professional. It seemed to help fool my mom, as well!

(They laugh, happy to finally see each other, again.)

Eva: Follow me. We’ll finish talking, later.

(Daniel follows Eva out the door, closing the door behind him.)

EXT. THE BRADFORD HOME

(Eva and Daniel are sitting on the roof, staring at the stars.)

Eva: Where are the others?

Daniel: They’re at the orphanage, visiting Ben.

Eva: Why’s he at the orphanage?

Daniel: It’s the only place he’s got, while the rest of us train at the barracks.

Eva: I see. What made you guys decide to become knights?

Daniel: Once we left Rossaire, we were pretty lost. We had just spent seven years in the same town. We got use to our day-to-day routine and hanging out with you. But, when we decided to come to Seriah, we were bored and kind of lost. I saw how the knights help people. I wanted that. I still want that. I want to feel like I’m actually making a difference, for once.

Eva: I’m sure you’ll do great things, Dan.

Daniel: I hope so.

Eva: …So, I saw that you were reading the Bible? When did you become so religious? Haha!

(Eva nudges Daniel’s shoulder, playfully.)

Daniel: I don’t know, it just sort of happened, I guess. Heheh! I started reading in between training and…. I just really liked what I was reading.

Eva: It is pretty interesting, huh. It’s too bad, that none of its true.

Daniel: It’s not true?

Eva: I doubt it. I mean, if a guy like that was real, then why would he have given me MY mother, or taken you guys’ parents from you. God’s supposed to be this benevolent caring creator, but our world is falling apart. This war wouldn’t have been going on this long, if he was real.

Daniel: Not necessarily. I guess, when I think of God, I think that he sees us as his children. I mean, he supposedly created us, right? I’m not really sure how a father would treat his kid, but I see Commander Bradford as sort of a father figure. Maybe, it’s just because he is a father, but anyway, he pushes us in training and when we fail, he doesn’t give up on us. He says keep trying, until we get it right. No matter how many times we fail, he tells us to get back up and do it on our own. The greatest joy a parent can feel is to see their child succeed, on their own. If the parent helps too much or does it for them, then the child didn’t learn anything.

Eva: That’s a good point. I don’t know, I just find it really hard to believe.

Daniel: I understand. I find it hard to believe at times, as well. But, if we didn’t question it, then it would just be blind faith and that’s not something to be proud of. I feel like, even though I question it sometimes, as long as I remind myself why I believe in him, then everything will be alright.

Eva: You’ve really put a lot of thought in this, huh?

Daniel: It wouldn’t be fair to say that I believe in him, if I didn’t.

(Eva lays her head on Daniel’s shoulder and they continue to watch the stars.)

CHAPTER 14:

EXT. THE BRADFORD HOME-AFTERNOON

(Henry, Lily, Daniel, and Eva are all standing outside the house, saying their goodbyes. Henry hugs and kisses Lily and Eva while Daniel stands there, feeling a bit awkward and out of place. While Henry and Lily are busy talking, Eva looks at Daniel and smiles.)

Henry: Alright, girls, we’ll be heading back to the barracks. I’ll see you both on Christmas.

Lily: I hate staying away from you so long.

Henry: I know, honey, I hate it, too. But, if you want the money that keeps you in this gorgeous house, then you’ll just say “Bye, honey, I’ll see you later!”

(Lily rolls her eyes and Henry hugs and kisses her forehead, laughing. Eva sneaks over to Daniel and nudges his arm.)

Eva: The only time my mom seems remotely happy is when he’s around.

Daniel: I’m not surprised. He’s a great man.

Eva: Yeah he is.

Daniel: She’s not the only one he makes happy. You’re definitely happier when he’s around.

Eva: Well, he makes my mom happier and in turn that makes me happy.

Daniel: …This in turn makes me happy.

(Eva smiles at Daniel, while Henry finishes up his goodbyes.)

Henry: Alright Daniel, breaks over and I expect you to get back into the routine of Commander Bradford and sir, do I make myself clear?

Daniel: Crystal clear, sir!

Henry: Excellent.

(Henry and Daniel take to the streets, leaving Eva and Lily behind.)

Lily: So, what’d you think of Daniel?

Eva: The same way I’ve felt about him for the last eight years. Funny how a haircut and title can change your opinion of the same man, huh? Oh, by the way, I hope you remember when you said that you wouldn’t disapprove if I wanted Daniel.

(Eva turns and walks into the house, leaving her mother baffled.)

EXT. THE ORPHANAGE

(Daniel and Henry walk by the orphanage. Daniel stares at the orphanage and slowly comes to a halt.)

Daniel: Sir, if I may? I would like to request permission to stop by the orphanage for a moment, before we return to the barracks.

(Henry smiles.)

Henry: Permission granted.

(Daniel smiles and bows slightly. He enters the orphanage and wanders down the hallway. He soon hears a group of guys laughing, hysterically. He peers in the room to see Rusty, Jack, Matt, and Ben. Ben is sitting on the bed, rolling around laughing, while the others are standing/sitting around the bed, laughing.)

Daniel: Looks like I missed out on a lot of fun.

(The boys stop laughing and look over at Daniel.)

Jack: Hey, look who it is!

Daniel: Sorry, I’m so late.

Matt: You must be out of your “Eva-lovin’” mind!

(The boys burst out laughing. Daniel tries to hold back his laughter, but fails miserably. Ben gets up from the bed, as Daniel walks toward him. They hug, happy to see each other for the first time in almost a year.)

Daniel: You think you can handle another year?

Ben: I don’t know, the other orphans here are pretty whiny. It gets on my nerves and next thing I know I’m in a “time-out.”

Daniel: What’s that?

Ben: You don’t want to know.

(Daniel laughs and pulls his brother in for another hug, as he ruffles his hair.)

INT. THE BARRACKS

(The boys are all happy to be back in their barracks, until Henry enters the room with some brutal news.)

Henry: Aright, boys. This is the second half of your training. Things WILL be much harder than before. But, you all have made it this far and I expect you to keep going, no matter what. Here is a list of some of the changes. For your daily run, you will now run around the perimeter of the city, twice. For your push-up training, you will incorporate one-armed push-ups and diamond push-ups. Your sword training, will now involve real sword and you will be facing me, the majority of the time. Also, for the remainder of your training, you will be carrying 100 pound sacks around with you. You are not to put these sacks down, unless it is sword training, lunch time, Bible study, or you are sleeping. Now, meet me outside in 10 minutes, and we will begin the final year of your training.

(Henry leaves the barracks. The boys each look at each other, horrified at the new requirements.)

EXT. SERIAH

(It is raining outside, as the boys lug their potato sacks around the outside of the city.)

Henry: PICK IT UP! WE’VE GOT NO TIME FOR SLACKING!

(Hunter begins to slow down, falling behind Jack and then Rusty, while Matt remains in the back and Daniel up front. Daniel looks back and sees Hunter slowing down. He slows down and lines up with Hunter.)

Daniel: Come on…man…you can do this! Just…drink the rain! Get your…mouth a little… wet and then…pick up the pace!

(Hunter fights through the pain and hoists his potato sack up and speeds up. Daniel picks it up and maintains his speed with Hunter. Henry looks back to see Daniel, helping his comrade. He smiles, but shakes his head at the same time.)

Henry: DANIEL! GET BACK UP HERE, IMMEDIATELY!

(Daniel hoists his potato sack up and rushes past Jack, running in line with Henry.)

Henry: WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING, BOY?!

Daniel: I WAS ASSISTING MY COMRADE, SIR!

Henry: VERY ADMIRABLE, SON. BUT, THIS IS TRAINING. IN TRAINING, YOU MUST WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF. THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF TIME FOR COMRADERIE, ONCE YOU REACH THE BATTLEFIELD! UNDERSTOOD?!

Daniel: …UNDERSTOOD, SIR!

(Henry shakes his head, but continues to run.)

EXT. THE BARRACKS

(They are standing around, as the rain is slowly dying down. The boys set their potato sacks on the ground and stretch out, cracking their backs. Henry is holding two sharp blades. He tosses one to Hunter. Hunter quickly catches it, a bit nervous.)

Henry: You’re up first, Hunter.

(Hunter worriedly steps up to face, Henry. They both get in their stances. Hunter’s stance is a bit off, on account of his subtle shaking.)

Henry: Begin!

(Henry lashes out at Hunter, but Hunter just backs away, deflecting each swing. Henry knocks Hunter’s blade out of his hand and kicks him in the chest, knocking him to the ground.)

Henry: Get up. We’re not finished, yet.

(Hunter gets up and goes to pick up his sword. Henry swings his sword at Hunter, just as he attempts to pick his sword up. Hunter leaps back, confused.)

Hunter: What the hell was that about?!

Henry: Watch your tone, boy. I am your commanding officer. You will show me respect, or I will show you the door.

Hunter: I apologize, sir. With all due respect, why would you attack me, as I am trying to reach for my weapon?

Henry: Do you think that the Nethergaians will wait for you to prepare yourself?

Hunter: Sir, you aren’t a Nethergaian.

Henry: No, but my job is to prepare you for battle. How is taking it easy on you, going to prepare you?

(Henry holds out his blade and lunges at Hunter. Hunter dodges three slices and then rolls under his fourth swing, grabbing up his blade. He steps onto one knee and blocks a downward strike from Henry. He pushes Henry’s sword aside and gets up dodging a quick follow up from Henry. Henry swings his sword diagonally and slices Hunter across his cheek.)

Hunter: God damn it! What is going on with you?!

Henry: With me?! What happened to all of your drive?! What happened to your will to persevere? Because, I don’t see any of that anymore. If you intend to defeat me, you’d better come at me with the intent to kill me.

Hunter: Kill you?! The Benegaian Brotherhood is all about camaraderie and you want me to come at me with the intent to kill you!

Henry: That’s where you’re mistaken, boy. I am not your comrade, I am your superior. There is a difference and it would benefit you to learn that difference.

(Hunter glares at Henry, trying to hold back his anger. He stands there for a moment, mulling over the situation. He turns and makes his way out of the barracks. Henry shakes his head. He picks up Hunter’s sword and tosses it to Daniel.)

Henry: You’re up next.

CHAPTER 15:

EXT. THE BARRACKS-AFTERNOON

(The remaining four recruits are doing push-ups, with their potato sacks strapped to their backs. Suddenly, Hunter walks into the barracks. Henry turns and faces him. Hunter gets down to the ground and bows to Henry. Henry remains silent, waiting to hear what Hunter has to say. Hunter looks up and takes a deep breath.)

Hunter: Commander Bradford, I would like to apologize for my insubordination, the other day. I was way out of line and I brought dishonor to everyone involved.

Henry: Thank you for coming back and apologizing. It’s very commendable to admit when you are wrong. Not many can do so.

Hunter: Thank you, sir.

(Henry turns away from Henry and continues to watch over his remaining recruits. Hunter stands up and waits for a moment.)

Hunter: So… when do I start?

Henry: Start?

Hunter: Start my training, again?

(Henry turns around and faces Hunter, with a confused look.)

Henry: You quit, Hunter. You are no longer enrolled in the program.

Hunter: But, sir, I came back. I apologized! You said it yourself, that it was commendable.

Henry: Yes, I did. But, nowhere there, did I say that you were once again enrolled in the program. You quit, Hunter. Do you realize that? You need to take responsibility for your actions. You can re-enlist next year, but I will not train you. I will not accept quitters. If they can get someone else to train you, then I wish you the best of luck. But, I will not allow you to fight in this war, just so you can quit in the middle of that, too.

(Henry turns away from Hunter and faces his recruits. Hunter clenches his fist and then rushes out of the barracks.)

INT. CAFETERIA-MIDDAY

(Henry gets up from the table, to throw his trash away. Daniel takes this moment to get up and follow him to the trash.)

Daniel: Sir, why wouldn’t you give Hunter a second chance? He apologized and everything!

Henry: Daniel, this is not something that is up for discussion.

Daniel: What the hell is the matter with you?!

Henry: Excuse me?!

Daniel: Sir, Hunter has given this all he has and you just cast him aside!

Henry: He did not give this his all or he would still be here! He quit, Daniel. He gave up and betrayed me, his nation, God, but most of all…he betrayed you four. He left you guys to go work your asses off, while he goes off and throws a temper tantrum. I will not allow him the chance to betray you all again. I respect that you care about him Daniel, but he doesn’t care about you. He only cares about himself.

(Henry throws his trash away and leaves Daniel. Jack, Matt, and Rusty get up and walk over to Daniel. Matt puts his hand on Daniel’s shoulder.)

Matt: You alright, man?

Daniel: Yeah. Please, don’t give up on this, guys. This is too important for us to throw away.

Matt: Wouldn’t dream of it.

Jack: You’ve got our word on that.

(Rusty nods his head, despite the fact that no one is looking.)

INT. THE SERIAHN CASTLE-EVENING

(A massive celebration is going on in the foyer. The king is standing at the head of the room. Beneath him are Henry’s four recruits, bowing to the King. Henry stands to the left of the King, with his hands situated behind his back.)

King: Here we have the final four recruits, ready to be recognized as a member of the Benegaian Brotherhood.

(The King unsheathes his sword and steps up to Rusty. He places the sword on Rusty’s left shoulder.)

King: Do you swear to protect the weak, defenseless, helpless, and fight for the general welfare of all?

(Rusty nods. The King smiles and moves the sword to Rusty’s right shoulder.)

King: I dub thee Sir Rusty.

(A random Knight walks over and hands Rusty a sword. Rusty stands up and takes the sword, happily. Rusty sheathes it and then he steps down and sits at a nearby table. The King steps over to Matt and sets his sword on Matt’s left shoulder.)

King: Do you swear to protect the weak, defenseless, helpless, and fight for the general welfare of all?

Matt: I do.

(The King smiles and moves the sword to Matt’s right shoulder.)

King: I dub thee Sir Matthew.

(A random Knight walks up and hands Matt a sword. Matt sheathes the sword, steps down and sits at the same table as Rusty. The King places his sword on Jack’s left shoulder.)

King: Do you swear to protect the weak, defenseless, helpless, and fight for the general welfare of all?

Jack: I do.

(The King smiles and places the sword on Jack’s right shoulder. Jack receives his sword and sits down with Rusty and Matt. The King steps up to Daniel and places his sword on Daniel’s left shoulder.)

King: As Commander Bradford’s star recruit, do you swear to protect the weak, defenseless, helpless, and fight for the general welfare of all?

Daniel: With all my heart, my lord.

(The King smiles and moves his sword to Daniel’s right shoulder.)

King: I dub thee Sir Daniel.

(Daniel receives a beautiful, golden blade. He sheathes it and steps down to sit with his comrades. The King smiles at the line of tables that now hold the newly dubbed Knights.)

King: It is an honor to be in your presence, men. These last two years have been a nightmare, I’m sure. But, now you all can finally call yourselves men, knights, and protectors. You will fight for our nation, so that one day...we may once again see peace. I thank you all for your bravery, thus far, and I hope that I continue to bask in your bravery. Please, help lead us to peace and victory. I hope that you enjoy the remainder of the night and the lovely feast that my cooks have prepared.

(The Knights all rise and then bow to the King, as he leaves the foyer. Once the King has left, the Knights rise and the civilians break out into a loud cheer. Eva rushes up from the crowd to hug her friends. Lily walks up to Henry and they hug and kiss. Henry and Lily make their way over to the recruits, much to Lily’s disgust.)

Henry: Congratulations, men.

Daniel: So, we’ve finally reached the moment where you could refer to us as men?

Henry: That you have. You guys have earned it.

Lily: Honey, I’m tired. We should probably be heading home.

Henry: I suppose your right. But, before we leave, I have one more thing that I must discuss with all of you. In one week, Matt and Rusty will be shipped out to Nethergaia, with Commander Jameson. Daniel, Jack and I, will also be shipped off to the outskirts of Nethergaia. I know that it’s sudden, but your nation needs you.

(Eva is horrified at the revelation that not only has she just lost her father, once more, but she has also lost her closest friends.)
