School for me is literally hell on earth. It is singly handedly the last place I ever want to be. I am a problem child for the school. The teachers are on a power trip and I can't get along. I've gotten so upset over school that I got ill and missed a week. My dad said if I pay 350 a month that I can drop out. Do you think it's worth it or should I consider staying? Is a diploma(is that spelt wrong?) really worth one more year of torture?

tutti frutti. Highschool at the very least is a necessity. If you're referring to college, that in itself is something that you would have to decide on your own since it's not for everybody, though at the same time slowly becoming a necessity. But without a college degree you can still find work though. If you're still in highschool, I say get your diploma. If it's college, I would say finish the semester at least and think hard about it.

Why is school hell on earth for you? You must have some part in it of why it is hell for you. Running from the problem won't make it better. When graduate you can say to people " ya, i went through 4 years of that hell hole". Best the beast, man.

Without a proper education your future is in jeopardy ..Stay in school and dont throw away your future for obstacles you can overcome with hard work and perserverance.

I think you should stay in school, finish what you started. A diploma is worth it. People with diplomas tend to receive higher pay and better jobs. Besides you probably really don't want to pay $350 per month. You could also consider home schooling for your last year or transfering schools.

If you drop out now, later in life you'll regret it beyond words. Trust me, I've heard a lot of stories about people dropping out and ruining their futures.

Yeah if your in High School you should definitely finish...doesn't make much sense to drop out with one year left, you've put up with three years of it...might as well finish.

After which you can decide what you want to do but for now you should stick it out. I'm in college now and I know people who have dropped out or didn't finish high school...lets just say that i'm glad i did.

On a side note, alot of the stress comes from pressure. When talking about me my friends say things like "out of all of us, Reeva you'll be the one that makes it." It doesn't seem to matter to me cuz I know that I'm gonna live a poor life anyway.

The most important part: two years ago a teacher accused my friends and I of bullying. We honestly had no idea what the teacher was talking about and weren't allowed to defend ourselves. She threatened us with jail and had the school cop threaten us too. I have to take her class again this year.

Tough it out like everyone else. What's four years of hell compared to a lifetime of poverty? You can't count on being one of the scarce, lucky few who manage to become successful despite dropping out of school. If you don't have a diploma, you most likely won't get anywhere beyond minimum wage jobs. Those can't support you by themselves, so you'd have to depend on social security.

 

You say it's a fact you're gonna live a poor life and you're wondering why you should bother. Excuse me? You don't know crap. You're not even out of high school and you're already giving up on your whole life because your teachers are awesome and you're having trouble fitting in. I've got news for you: high school is the most god-awful years of your life because you're surrounded by overly cynical teens who only have a cursory idea of how the real world works, where you're judged for the most ridiculous things, and where the system almost seems designed to screw you over in the worst ways possible. You'll have way more responsibilities when you're an adult and you'll eventually learn first-hand just how many ways things can go wrong, but unlike in school, you'll actually have a chance of taking some semblance of control over the situation. Having an actual measure of freedom for what you can do in your life makes it worthwhile. There are actual, tangible benefits to slogging through hell.

 

And at the very least, you can be the better person and not let the idiots around you push you down. What better way to show them than by living a decent life? Oh, wait, you won't have to show them up. You'll never see them again when you graduate. That's right, I said when. So suck it up and deal with it.

Money won't make you happy. Money makes you stable, which will make you happy. You want to live poor? Do you know what poor is? And if you do, why would that ever be a goal? Ultimately, money doesn't matter much to many people, but living poor is a different, sometimes even greater hell than high school. Try living on paycheck to paycheck, squeezing out every last possible penny to keep yourself going, dreading that nothing goes wrong like your car breaking down because you don't have the cash to repair it, or injuring yourself because don't have the money to pay for the hospital bill because you might not have health insurance, or living off cheap, fattening food every day because you can't afford anything better. That's the life you wanna live? Just because "money means nothing to you?" What you mean is material things mean nothing to you. Money matters.

 

Wait, circumstances "a long time ago?" You mean you've given up on the entire potential 80+ years of your whole existence because of what happened even earlier, when you were younger and still had even less experience under your belt? Wow. I now operate under the assumption you've set your your entire life path when you were in middle school and somehow know it's a fact absolutely nothing nothing nothing will change for the better in between then and later, whether because of the chips falling in your favor or you putting in the effort to get there because you care and you tried. But unless you were homeless and surviving with no one but your own wits and cunning to get you by, because your parents have all but disowned you and you have no friends to turn to, there's not much that can happen to a young'un that prepares them for real life.

 

Maybe these past experiences have given you some wisdom. That doesn't mean you know everything about how the real world works. There are teenagers who, because of awful circumstances, do know how it does. Can you tell me you're one of them?

Yes I can say I'm one of them. My dad was really abusive when I was younger and I grew up in a camper while my parents were too busy doing meth to notice the slashes on my wrists. I stopped cutting and I am damn proud of it. And yes I have and do live the poor life. Social classes are hard to change and in reality I probably won't get out of it. It's not a "goal" it just seems more realistic. I live off cheap fattening food or I don't eat at all. And hospitals? Lmfao I'm lucky if I see a doctor and that's only if they offer a sliding fee scale. My goal is this "be happy." I don't have a plan for myself simply because it takes everything I have to make it through one day. I live for the here and now.

And don't even get me started on car problems. Just thinking about our car issues stresses me out.

I enjoy living for the here and now, too. There's no point to living if you can't appreciate what you have in the present. Stopping your cutting shows tremendous strength of will, so you should be proud. You've managed to last this long without breaking, and you're giving up?

 

Your experiences may have given you a certain wisdom, but the fact remains that you're still way, way too young to be making the decision to give up on your entire life. Everyone wishes to be happy, but your life is still in the developing stages. The future is too abstract to imagine, so it can be hard to believe it's possible for things to get better. Getting through the day takes all that effort because being a teenager is a craptacular experience. You're expected to act like an adult but you receive none of the benefits. All that effort for little to no gain. If you have the energy to go through all that and still manage to function, I have a feeling life will have to put in some effort if it wants to kick your ass.

 

You don't need to have a plan now because like I said, your future is too abstract for you to settle down. Take it one step at a time, like graduating from high school. When you have a better perspective, then you can start focusing on more concrete goals. Yes, it's more "realistic" to imagine you'll never get out of your social class, but focusing on pure realism makes life really... uh... not happy. I learned a lesson not too long ago about the importance of emotional investment and how you can't focus on pure realism and logic to get through life. Yes, there's pain if you don't reach your goal, but there's also the chance of happiness. Imagine a life where you don't need to live off cheap, fattening food, you have a home that's decent and a job you don't dread going to in the morning, and your car doesn't hate your guts. Logic and realism lets you reach your goals, but it's desire that sets them to begin with. Of course, it's hard to set goals like that when you're a teenager under your conditions. But tough it out. At least graduate high school. If you wanna focus on being realistic, the chances of getting a job without at least a high school diploma are slim.

 

I wish more people would realize you need both logic and emotion to get where they need to be. Pure dreams and emotion gets you nowhere, but pure logic makes life unfulfilling. And if you want a story of a guy getting out of awful conditions to lead a decent life, go read about a Cracked.com writer named John Cheese. Grew up in an apathetic/abusive household and was a poor, alcoholic deadbeat until he was thirty. Now he has his own family with a decent home in a neighborhood where it's actually safe to walk out the door. That's the kind of dreams and emotions to strive for, and if you have wisdom and logic under your belt to help you reach them, then don't give up. Don't let life push you down.

I think just being able to get out of bed in the morning under your conditions takes a lot of guts.

School is such an Asylum. I thought High School was going to be terrible but it's not that bad but still a total Asylum I'm getting into Homeschooling but still dropping out because I believe I can make it somewhere in life with my Musical Talents. I hope I can at least.... :unsure:

In this economy you need a diploma to get anywhere in life. With your diploma you'll be able to apply to colleges, or take part in other fields such as the military. Anything that will pay a decent amount or open more doors for you requires a high-school diploma.

 

If you drop out then you are figuratively firetrucked.

 

Put it this way, would you rather sort people's trash for the rest of your life, or spend one more year in school?

No matter how terrible school gets the education is the main priority. Don't drop out, you need the diploma to get anywhere in life so you will have more opportunities in the future, plus it is just one more year, you can do it!

Update: I found out I have post traumatic stress disorder and it's triggered by being alone in public. None of my friends go to my school so that's why I have such a hard time cuz i'm alone there. Well they put me on medication so i'm gonna go through with one more year. Wish me luck.
