July 15, 201213 yr Definately. Sort of like Macbeth. It's funny how his story is so similar to Riku's, but eventually Riku came to his senses and realized what was really important. Xehanort puts gaining more power above all else, and thus is doomed to a horrible life... Terra also struggles with the temptation of power a bit, but not to the scale you would have suspected; for the most part, he still has a good heart.
July 15, 201213 yr Pretty much. Ambition = Evil in the KH universe... not really. Fear leds to obession with power, obsession with power=Darkness or Evil in the KH universe.
July 15, 201213 yr not really. Fear leds to obession with power, obsession with power=Darkness or Evil in the KH universe. Anybody who has drive and wants something in KH will ultimately fall to darkness. The only cure is to become submissive like Riku did in KH2.Also, haven't you played CoM? What about Jack Skellington's speech about how fear is good, because it let's us push in new directions? Fear isn't so one dimensional like you say...
July 15, 201213 yr Author Pretty much. Ambition = Evil in the KH universe... Not necessarily so often, because ambition can benefit good as well.
July 15, 201213 yr not really. Fear leds to obession with power, obsession with power=Darkness or Evil in the KH universe. Fear doesn't always lead to obsession with power. Fear allows us to move on and grow as people. It's when you let the fear control you that you begin to lose yourself. There's far more to fear than just a hunger for power. Master Xehanort let his fear and ambition control him to the point that he lost sight of the fact that he's just using people over and over and over, just to get what he wants.
July 15, 201213 yr Not necessarily so often, because ambition can benefit good as well. In real life. Name one ambitious person in KH who hasn't been punished for it.
July 15, 201213 yr I always felt that Xehanort and all his forms tried to tempt multiple characters with the thought of "power", which led them deeper into the plan.

July 15, 201213 yr Author In real life. Name one ambitious person in KH who hasn't been punished for it. Aqua. She ventured into the Realm of Darkness to attempt to save Terra and/ or his body, I believe.
July 15, 201213 yr Aqua. She ventured into the Realm of Darkness to attempt to save Terra and/ or his body, I believe. That's not ambition at all.
July 15, 201213 yr Does boldness count as ambition? Ambition is the desire for personal achievement. So, no what Aqua did does not count as ambition. I would say that the reason it's portrayed this way in KH is because, in some ways, ambition can become selfish. If you become to ambitious, you start to lose sight of the people around you, in favor of doing only what you would want to do. So, in KH, when people get too ambitious that is what happens, while the people of the light tend to not care about their own ambitions, but the benefits of the greater good. KH is a world that has a good and bad morality scale, which has some differences from reality's morality scale. They touched on it a bit in KH2, which I liked, when Sora and Riku told Xemnas that they didn't hate the dark, only those that lurked inside.

Only every ambitious person in KH wanted to achieve things for the benefit of their friends/world, and it always ends up turning out horribly. Meanwhile, people like Sora, who don't actively seek a way to solve problems, automatically make everything better just by being there.Doesn't seem fair to me.

July 15, 201213 yr I don't think with Terra it was as much temptation as it was being tricked and misled. Yeah, he wanted to get stronger to protect his friends and prove to Master Eraqus that he had what it took to be a master. But he kept running into all the villeins in the different worlds, except for Disney Town, and he thought he was doing the right thing by helping them.
July 15, 201213 yr This. Only every ambitious person in KH wanted to achieve things for the benefit of their friends/world, and it always ends up turning out horribly. Meanwhile, people like Sora, who don't actively seek a way to solve problems, automatically make everything better just by being there. Doesn't seem fair to me. I wouldn't say everyone, considering that Master Xehanort was just about always in it for himself. I mean sure he felt like the universe was too off balance when it came to light and darkness, but he decided that he had the right to just use people to get what he wanted. But, you do have a point, Sora doesn't ever seem to know what he's doing, but in the end he somehow manages to get shit done. lol Edited July 15, 201213 yr by Ertyx
July 15, 201213 yr I don't think Xehanort himself is a figure of Temptation, given that he doesn't really tempt anyone in BBS (in spite of the attempt at making it appear as though Terra is on the edge, he is never truly tempted to do anything dark or evil [mind control and manipulation is not Temptation. Temptation requires a certain level of will behind it]). The real allegory for Temptation is the Darkness itself. It offers the power and strength to give people what they want, so long as they embrace it fully: it doesn't come out an say "Hey, I'm gonna make you evil," but rather plays on the already existing desires of the individual, promosing to make the attaining of these desires easier than usual, making it harder and harder for them not to want it, which is ultimately what Temptation is. This can be seen in Ansem the Wise, who, wanting revenge, is willing to use the powers of Darkness to make it so, and in Riku, who wants to protect Kairi and stay the strongest, and begins to slowly expand his use of Dark powers.

July 17, 201213 yr He represents hypocrisy more than temptation. He wants people to believe Eraqus is wrong and Darkness is not all bad, but his actions say otherwise....
I was thinking: Since MX is evil and wants to meet his goals by searching for a vessel, does he represent the temptation of power? I think he might.
What do you guys think?
