Is it possible to go through one story before going to the next one or just playing through both.

It switches between them once your drop gauge runs out, but you can switch back if you want to complete the world you were just on.

well, kind of. you can play up to a certain point, e.g first 3 worlds after traverse town, but then need to catch up with the other character to progress

This. Which is extremely annoying cuz I'm playing thru it with Riku waaaay faster than with Sora.

yeah i noticed that as well- riku's playthrough is waay faster. the only reason i can think of is riku has to do a LOT more fights later on so they decided to balance it out that way... but it's still annoying

I understand you all wanting to play with Riku more than Sora, I do to, because we have all played with Sora in KH1,KH COM, KH2 and KH Coded, and the only game we have been able to play as Riku in the story is in KH COM, to be honest, it was about damn time they made Riku this playable in a KH game , I'm getting tired of using Sora all the time, but don't get me wrong, I like using Sora it's just that I'm really tired of using him in his KH1 form, I wanted to use him in his KH2 form.

I like to play with Riku very much (couldn't play him in Re:CoM because no EU release), but died many times with him

and at the end I leveled him up a lot and after I finished the game...Sora was lv. 41 and Riku was lv.57

You can play as only one, but not all the time. In the beginning you're forced to swich. But then you can swich when you want. And you can go to other worlds too. Except the last world. To go to the last world you need both characters to complete the other worlds.

 

Also, there are some cutscenes (the ones related to Lea, Yen Sid, Mickey and the others) that you can only watch when you complete a world with both characters.
