Is it a problem if a particular member [A] has given 2000+ likes to another particular member ?

For argument's sake, let's say each of the 2000+ likes are genuine, and that the two members are friends and share opinions. Each like is on a post where they agree. Let's also say that 40% of member B's likes come from member A, and that 70% of the likes that member A gives out go to member B.

Is this a problem, and if so, what should be done about it?

I don't see a problem. Likes currently can't be used for anything and thus have no value other than internet dick measuring. 

 

No matter what you add or remove, people will still be butthurt and competing against each other. If you remove the rep system people will go back to post counts (which is more damaging because this leads to crappy threads/posts just to raise that number). And if you remove the post count system something else will surely take it's place. 

 

But seriously though, the likes are just a number. They are by no means a representation of how popular/important/whatever you are as a member. 

 

I can't say I'm not a bit biased on this. Ever since the rep system was recreated a year or two back I was always getting a lot of likes. Hell I was even the first to break 1000 likes. Maybe some members who don't get as many likes are a bit upset I don't know, It's never been a "problem" for me. I doubt this is a major issue though. 

 

DC, I understand you want to make sure nobody feels left out, but there are some people who will just whine and complain over every insignificant thing. Catering to this will only make the problem worse.

I agree with this sentiment. Logic would say that profile veiws would be just as important as likes as people would only check profiles if the member in question was either consistently making points or expressing opinions that genuinely interested others or had similar/appealing qualities to others. As you can only gain a single view per member it seems that if there were any value to these statistics then they would be equal to/ more valuable than likes. At least likes is restricted and something that has qualities pretty much everyone can bitch about and is out in the open. No need to introduce a pink elephant on site!

I agree.  It may be because I've only been on here for 4 months, but it seems to me as if this whole idea came out of nowhere.  The only thing likes even get you is status as a "whore" and that doesn't really mean anything.
