A hobby of mine is trying to go through FF VI and plot how I would try and adapt it to a film format. It's tricky, but fun, given that things have to be cut, characters have to have moments to establish themselves, the plot and some dialogue needs fleshing out in places, etc. All in all, a good time.

The one thing that I always get hitched up on, though, is the final fight with Kefka. How would you go about filming that? The problem stems from the fact that he's almost too powerful for a straight up fight. Ideally, you'd want him and Terra to do a one-on-one, but to do a straight up duel would undermine the fact that the man has the ability to destroy the world. Conversely, if you were to get the entire cast in there, it would be incredibly hard to focus the action.

Though I do know that I want Cyan to get the final killing blow in, just to give some closure to his relationship with Kefka.

So, yeah. How would you go about filming the final battle?

Using the filmmaking experience I have, I'd put the whole cast in there, and focus on a couple of characters dealing individual blows on him, and Terra more often than others, perhaps along with some shots of him giving commands. So that is, have an opening shot of everyone with some more important people front/middle, and they all charge, then we go into the people(s) individual attacks. Be sure to post it once you finish, I don't know FF almost at all and I hear VII's great so yeah, I wanna' see it.

*Nuclear bomb falls*

*Everyone dies from the blast but Kefka, who starts to struggle back on his feet.*

*But wait! The bomb sent Cyan's corpse straight into the air, which happened to fall right on top of Kefka when he was most weak, killing him.*

*The end*

This way you only have to focus on the bomb. Your welcome.

I once read a Final Fantasy VI Fanfiction that had a decent final fight against The Gods/Kefka. Basically, Terra was in her Esper form the entire time, and was armed with the ultima weapon, which was portrayed as the only weapon able to effectively cut and kill them. There were other people involved in the fight, but not many; since about half the cast had been killed off over the course of the story. Yeah, it was a pretty dark fanfic. But hey, I think it worked.

This may be a good point to utilize the different tiers of Kefka's final boss...like, they could all be fighting the different tiers simultaneously, and you could split the party up that way if you wish. Kefka's power is drained as each of the different bosses are defeated. Kefka then does some move that flattens the whole party, but Terra, Celes, and whoever else you want gets up for the final battle. Insert "life...dreams...hopes..." speech. It's not until this point that Terra turns esper. Then, if you must, Cyan can run his sword through Kefka as everyone else focuses their powers to Terra or something, who casts the final utlima that destroys him. Or like, everyone could take turns using their "limit breaks" (they sort of had them in FFVI, not that I'd ever let hp get low enough to use them). While I would personally want Terra to have the final blow, I'm not all that concerned with her having a 1-on-1 with Kefka; we had that in Dissidia, and this is not Final Fantasy VII with Cloud and Sephiroth. Almost everyone has some sort of personal score to settle with Kefka, and its all about regaining hope in their lives despite their individual tragedies (glares at Cloud. Actually Cloud's emo-ness doesn't bother me that much. He's just an easy target).

I'm also not too big on Cyan giving the killing blow...but this is your show, so do what you want.

There could also be some sort of special thing that Terra (or other party members) channels the powers of all the espers or something, to make Kefka's defeat in live action more feasible.

Also I usually headcanon Locke wielding the Ultima weapon, because if he's in my final party he's the one who wields it because really he's the only one it makes sense to...Celes and Terra I always have in my party, and they're exclusively magic users for the final battle, so why waste the strong weapon? And anyone else that could equip it has something else that lets them deal big damage. That also helps make Locke seam a little less...ordinary lol (his class is just thief).

Anyway...the easiest way to go about it is to probably have weaker characters (Mog, Relm, Setzer, etc.) picked off first.

Oh, I would be in heaven if a Final Fantasy VI film was made.  (The greatest game in the entire series, in my opinion.)  I see your point on the issue with the final Kefka battle.  I think it would been to be epic, and not some everyday battle that you'll find in typical movies.  Battling one-on-one would degrade Kefka, I think, so a full cast would be ideal.  Perhaps if only the required characters joined the fight (Terra, Celes, and I believe it was Setzer and Edgar, but I don't remember now because I collected them all, :P) and basically demonstrate Kefka thrashing the place.  Terra could transform into her Esper mode when all of the others appear too "weak" to take him down, and up in the sky it's a one-on-one final battle.  I think it'd look more fair this way, since Kefka was shown fighting all of them until Terra takes him on herself in Esper form.  Just an idea; I'm not an expert on filming.  It seems like it'd be a fairly difficult scene to portray accurately.

Can't say I have film making experience, but I think a huge battle between Kefka and the cast would be more appropriate than a one-on-one.  Something like that would be tricky and unfocused, but maybe they could circumvent that a little by dividing the characters into groups and switching the focus between them.  Like, Terra, Celes, Locke would be a part of the same group, as would Edgar and Sabin and maybe Cyan, same with Shadow, Strago, and Relm.  Everyone has a chip on their shoulders regarding Kefka and the Empire, except Umaro and Gogo (unless you're going with that theory that Gogo is actually Emperor Gestahl), so it wouldn't seem right if not everyone got to contribute.  Not only that, if Kefka's truly a world destroying god, then Terra's gonna need some serious help and from a gameplay perspective, I prefer not to take a single character throughout the whole final battle.  It could be possible that Kefka's just going easy on them, and/or maybe the combined might of esper-infused characters made them able to go toe-to-toe with them.  Or maybe they're able to subdue the Warring Triad a bit so his powers have been dampened for the fight (if I recall, there are three boss fights in Kefka's tower that correspond to each of the statues).  I dunno.  In any event, it'd better be cool.

I'll have Kefka done by Jim Carrey lols.  :P
