So it begins.

I have gathered them here. They know nothing yet. That will change soon. I wonder how they will take to each other. Time will tell. Regardless, no more time can be wasted. The Experiment must now begin. Time to wake them up...

"Good morning. Welcome to the next part of your life."

The voice rang out in all of their ears. Earpieces, firmly attached in the ears of all of them. Inside came the unnerving and unnaturally changed voice on the other end. One by one, after hearing the voice, each of the subjects began to wake. Lying on the shore of a short beach was Yumi Yuki Ai, Ember Mors, Luce Angelo, Hazimie Azhar, and Rasiel Kasaragi. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Miles away lay an abandoned collection of bunkers and buildings. They surrounded an airstrip. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay several more people. Ren Cabret, Neisan, Kilek North, Tsuna Sasaki, and Sikota Urinakano. Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four other subjects; Robert Evans, Karu Kasaragi, Fulmen Aizen, Xander Steel, and Locke Stern. Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an imaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

On this island the Experiment is to be conducted. The island itself is only a few miles across, but its jungles, beaches, and bunkers hold long-kept secrets. These people now find themselves as part of a deadly game. They will have to get to know each other, and work together to discover what is sought from them, and in the process they must learn what they seek themselves.

The voice buzzed through their earpeices once more.

"Time to wake up. The Experiment has begun. You won't want to be asleep for this... Wake up and meet your new friends... and enemies. Wake up...

...the game has begun."

"Stepping off the platform results in test failure." Xi's voice instructed in Sikota's earpeice.

Then there was just quiet. Six thin cylindrical machines rose up on the edges of the platform. The platform began to buzz, then. It sounded... electric. Then it became obvious that the floor was meant to be an electric conductor. Within five seconds it began to course through the floor, and, by proxy, directly into Sikota. The voltage seemed to grow more and more potent with time. The cylindrical machines began to buzz as well, and suddenly arcs of electricity began to course through them all, moving through Sikota at a painfully high voltage.

"Why her?" Xi's voice was barely audible over the buzz of the electricity. "Why do this for her?"

--------------------------------------

Upon stepping into the large room, Ember must have realized just how dark it was. To the right a dark figure seemed to be moving in straight lines at incredibly fast speeds. It sped pas Ember and to the left side. It then disappeared into the darkness of the room's corners once more. A buzz suddenly filled the room. Something was charging...

Sikota grimaced. "Back home, I failed to protect who was important to me. When I first saw her up close on the airstrip, I saw fear. You can't fool these eyes. I decided I'd protect her. And the feeling grew. Is that good enough of an answer?" He wasn't sure how much electricity he could stand.

  • Author

"No, but it is your answer, so keep it as you will. This test is not about your foolhardy attempt to be compassionate, but rather to see if you are truly dedicated enough to follow through on such feelings."

The voltage of the electricity continued to grow. More and more electricity shot through the conductive floor, and through Sikota. There was no indication of when it may cease, and that was Xi's intention.

"You want to protect her? You barely know her. You think you will save her? You truly think that you can do that, regardless of what both of your futures hold?"

"Yes, yes, and yes. I'll stick to this if I can prove my point to you! Once this is over, the five of us will be leaving. With or without your help or approval."

A huge surge in voltage flowed through the six machines and the floor. It didn't let up either.

"Such certainty. On nothing other than hope you assume you will make it off this island? On nothing more than determination you assume this electricity will stop flowing? Much more than your own will governs what happens in this world, are you truly so confident and enduring?"

The level of electricity at this point was not longer painful, it was closer to excruciating.

Sikota did what he often did. He laughed at the pain. "If there is something I want. I strive for it. I don't stop. One of is going to get proven wrong!"

Neisan woke up. His tummy rumbled. "Midnight snack," he mumbled. He got up, and ate a small amount of food. Then he looked around. "Say, where's Sikota?" he thought. He saw the door to the next area was open. His face paled. "Oh no." he whispered. He ran outside. He looked up and saw Sikota on the platform. He knew there was nothing he could do. He couldn't shoot at the platform, he might hit Sikota. He couldn't cut off the electricity. He couldn't grab Sikota without shocking himself. All he could do was stand and watch. "Sikota!" He cried in anguish.

"Impressive resolve."

Voltage then increased to its maximum. After about five seconds of that, the entire platform shut down. All was quiet again.

"Impressive, or extremely stupid, we shall see. Nonetheless, congratulations. The next step awaits you."

The gate in front of the platform began to move open, its gargantuan doors swinging inward. The twilight was shining through the trees at Sikota and Neisan. Beyond the gate was another clearing, bigger than the first, past that seemed to be a few small guard lookout towers and minor things. The radio tower continued to blink in the far distance.

Yumi sighed."Fine,we take the jeeps." She said.

She looked at Fulmen."Are you okay Fully?" She asked.

"I mean,you flew!" She exclaimed.

Sikota fell to the ground, exhausted. His feathers glowed lightly and he stood. He faced Neisan. "Stay back. These challenges are mine to face." With a flap of his wings, he dashed forward and caused a gust more powerful than a hurricane focused and flying at Neisan, slightly piercing his armor and sending him flying back toward the bunker landing with a crash. With his wings fully recovered, that was only a taste of the gales he could create. Time for the next challenge.

Fulmen nodded once, smiling to show how 'okay' he was, "Yeah....I;m fine. Just shaken up and very exhausted...that's all." Fulmen said, panting a bit. His arms hurt from the blast, stinging a bit as he moved around.

Usually my own power doesn't really hurt me. Fulmen thought,  I must need rest badly.

"But I'm ready to leave if you guys are- but I might fall asleep in the jeeps..."

Tsuna muttered something under her breath and slowly opened her eyes slightly. "Good morning..?" she muttered and got up on her knees but flopped back down on her stomach in the middle of the bed, still drowsy. Few minutes later, she opened her eyes more and looked around. Ren was still alseep on the bed and Kilek was passed out on the floor. What an odd sleeping position, she thought and noticed that Sitoka and Nesian were out of sight. She was fully awake now and her eyes darted around the room. "Sitoka? Nesian?" she said quietly, while looking under the bed. "Huh i wonder where those two went off to." she said to herself still lying down and she slowly looked towards the door.

Tsuna was greeted with the sight of Neisan rushing into the room. "We need everybody up and outside, now! Sikota is going to get himself killed. Nearly already did. Get Ren up. What is Kilek doing?" Neisan was frantic. He went over to Kilek and slapped him across the face. "Get up! Our friend could be dead by now!" Neisan turned and strode to the door. "I'm going now. Tsuna, you get the others up and get out here, quickly. Sikota's life may depend on it." Neisan dashed outside and over to the electric platform. "I don't have time for this challenge. Sorry, Xi." Neisan tore the pillars off the platform and unleashed his mega laser upon the door, which was slowly closing. The force of the beam knocked the doors wide open, and Neisan rushed through.

Suddenly a bullet ripped through a piece of Neisan's armor, and grazed his side.

"The more the merrier." Xi sounded intrigued at the change in participation.

Another bullet exploded next to Sikota, with the dirt around him dispersing violently. The clearing left the two terribly exposed and the gate they had entered left them stuck in the clearing. The door successfully shut behind them. It was not meant to stop Ren, Kilek, and Tsuna from entering, but rather Neisan and Sikota from leaving.

"Welcome to the sniper range." Two more bullets razed into the ground near the two. The two were standing still, the shots were obvious misses... just to show what they could do. The two bullets at the same time implied multiple snipers. The only conclusion for where they could be was in the guard towers across the clearing. That would make about a minute or more sprint to get over to them.

"The next shots will not miss. You move or you die."

Edited by MDSVeritas

"Idiot, he's too slow for this." Sikota said to himself. "and if he does get moving, his motions are too predictable. He's dead." With a powerful flap of his wings, Sikota took to the skies at a blinding speed. With another flap, Sikota was already a quarter of the way to the towers, he had to sacrifice some speed for agility, occasionally strafing, diving, spinning, anything to make him as untraceable as possible.

"Alright, if we're all agread, let's start driving over there."

(After all, why let the others have all the fun?)

"woah woah... wait!?" Tsuna said to Neisan but he was already out the door. She quickly moved off the bed, slipping on her shoes and walked over to Kilek and Ren. She shook them to get the them awake and went over to the door where Neisan went out off. "What the hell is Sitoka doing..." she muttered to herself and slowly went out the door. She knew Ren and Kilek will catch up shortly but she was too curious as to what was going on

Neisan smiled. "This'll be a chance to show off what my shields can do." Neisan began jogging forward, and his shields sprang out from his arms. Then a sheen of energy covered them. As the bullets hit his shields, they were thrown off by the energy, leaving no more than scratches. "Ha! Bet you didn't know my shields were more than just pieces of metal!" Neisan broke out into a run, his lasers also priming themselves. "I need to be ready when I get up there." he thought. "Those guns aren't going to wait for me to take aim carefully."

Luce was momentarily paralyzed by the disturbing movement of the figure. Once he finally snapped out of it,  Luce sprinted to catch up with Ember. The idiot slammed into her in the dark and knocked both of them to the ground. "Jesus!" Luce shot out as wind was knocked out of him. After apologizing, "Sorry..."  Luce simply lit up the room with a ball of white plasma. He was afraid that what he revealed would make more of an ass out of himself than he already had...

The fire continued to come relentlessly from the guard tower. It blazed into Neisan's shields consistently, and barely missed Sikota quite a few times. Something peculiar happened as they advanced down the clearing, though. Were there... more guns firing? It seemed like a few were coming from the surrounding forest outside the fence. The gunfire had begun to come only from the guard towers, but now it seemed to be coming from just about every direction.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Luce's plasma illuminate the figure. A humanoid figure, but in the light it became apparent that it was no human. It seemed to be a stiff mechanical body, a seemingly simple robot on a complex rail system that seemed to move just about anywhere in the room. It looked like a simple mechanical model of a human... except its shoulders. On there it has two machines mounted... seemingly sort of cannons. This place seemed to a test room for some sort of combat, and now Luce and Ember were face to face with an enhanced form of one of the test dummies. The cannons suddenly started to buzz, the front ends of them growing bright. Suddenly two blinding beams of light shot out from the dummy, and it rocketed away on its rails.

The two fast, bright projectiles headed straight for the two.

"Hm, it seems they're multiplying." Sikota said. With another burst of speed, he nearly matched the speed of the bullets and reached one of the guard towers, the sniper...

Yumi got in a jeep. "Uh,fine." She said.

"I just want to go." She said.

She then added."Who can drive?"

With another burst of speed, he nearly matched the speed of the bullets and reached one of the guard towers, the sniper...

... what sniper? When Sikota reached the guard tower her found only a series of sniper rifles, connected to various machines, and seemingly controlled by a variety of robotics that were intertwined with parts of the guard tower.

"Congratulations on the first half, Sikota. Take your prize and be ready for the next section of the test." The only object that Xi could be talking about was the single sniper rifle set up with the others, but without any machine controls... it looked loaded and ready to be fired.

Back at the entrance to the clearing, the gate opened, beckoning Tsuna and everyone else in.

Edited by MDSVeritas

"Heh. Some prize." Pausing for a moment, thinking of what Neisan would want to do with it. He picked it up and flew to the ground. Setting the gun in the grass, he carved a message in the dirt

A gift for Neisan

              -S

"Alright then. Get me started on part 2."

  • Author

"Hmp... you don't get. You'll be needing that sniper rifle. After that, all you have to do is wait in a guard tower for the rest of your friends to arrive and come into the clearing. Then the next part of the test will begin."
