Analyst Says PS4 and "Xbox 720" Games Will Cost $70

Posted

"PS4 and next Xbox games will retail at $70, ten dollars more than current gen games", said Wedbush Securities Research Analyst Michael Pachter during a panel at SXSW.

The news was tweeted this afternoon by Spike and GamesTrailers Host Geoff Keighley. This comes after Sony clarified the price point of PS4 games when SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton explained that Sony, "will offer games with prices ranging from $0.99 to the more traditional $60 range with the ability for players to sample games before theybuy." It's important to note that Tretton's quote never gives a hard number, like a MSRP of $59.99, etc., which leaves room for interpretation of what Sony's view of a "traditional $60 range" might actually be.

Remember everybody this is only speculation. So try and take this with a grain of salt. But still, what are your thoughts about this?

Now you're just being ridiculouse lol

Just trying to clear up the confusion but okay.

Saw this one coming.

Just checked what 70$ are.... I pay 60-65€ for a game.

And google says:

65 Euro = 84,51300 US-Dollar

Piracy + Increased production cost = Increased prices.

We can't do much about the production cost, but if people stop stealing games the price might level out.

New games cost $70 back in the day.

Damn it, i almost read at first that it said that both consoles would cost 70 bucks.

I thought the very same thing!  I was like "Woo-hoo!  I'm going out and buying a PS4 the day it comes out!"  But I did briefly wonder why it was so much cheaper than the PS3... :P

Here in Australia, we pay more than that for PS3 and 360 games at launch....

Ouch, that must hurt.  Sorry to hear it. :(  I've heard that gaming in Australia is very expensive, but didn't quite realize *how* expensive.  And here I've been complaining about our prices in the US...

Yeah, it sucks. I usually wait for major releases to go down in price. However I pre-ordered 358/2 Days, Re:coded, and Kingdom Hearts 3D and paid the full price of roughly $70.

So glad I'm gonna be ignoring next gen consoles.

Probably gonna get them a few years from now

Or never at all since I might not have time as an almost adult in college.

I remember when games used to cost about 40$ new

ah, gaming market.

I remember when NES games cost 40$ bucks. When adjusted for inflation, they would be just as, or more expensive as games are now.

Hell, I remember Gameinformer running an article a few months back where they adjusted all of Nintendo's consoles for inflation... the original NES would cost today what people paid for a day-1 PS3. More expensive then a Wii U.

When you're technically paying less for this:

Then what people paid for this:

Then I don't really think we reserve the right to complain to much.
