I don't think we ever got an explicit answer.

 

In BBS, we all know it was Sora talking to Ventus at the start, and ive always assumed that Namine was talking to Roxas in the beginning of KH2, since she guided him for the most part after that.

 

But in KH1, they never really hinted at who was guiding Sora at the start of KH 1?

 

I guess it could be Ventus, with his sleeping heart being inside Sora and all, but im still not so sure. I've heard rumors that it was Mickey, but i don't see how that makes any sense for him to be guiding Sora before he even received the keyblade.

Nomura said it was Mickey.

It’s the King calling to Sora here. In the Dive To Heart, the King guides Sora through his dream, explaining the intentions of the adventure.

When Sora acquires the Keyblade for the first time after this and just before passing through the last door of The End of The World , Sora hears a voice reverberate in him that sounds like the King’s. It seems so that those around him understand without hearing, the King speaks to Sora’s heart directly

Even though Nomura said it was Mickey, that was a long time ago before Ventus was conceived.  I still like to think it's Ventus because it makes more sense, especially since Sora was the one who talked to Ventus in BBS.  I like to think Ventus would help Sora in turn.

Though Nomura originally said it was Mickey in the KHI Ultimania, I don't think that’s true now. Nomura could have, after all, changed the idea, seeing as how it was never addressed in the games. Though it's true that Mickey guiding Data Sora in Re:Coded—and seems to have Riku in KHI, if a certain FM scene is anything to go by—I think it's safe to say it was Ven who guided Sora in KHI. Here's why I say this:

For one, when Sora and Ventus are talking towards the beginning of BbS, when they both say "Open the Door", Sora's voice can be heard alongside Ven's. This could be a hint that Ven might guide Sora in the future (the way Sora once did him).

The fact that Ven's armor tries to protect Sora from the Darkness in DDD might also be a hint.

Something else I noticed is how in Sora and Ven's discussion at the beginning of BbS, Sora says, "Where am I?" To that, Ven then says, "Who's there?" That scene is parallel to one in KH2 where Sora once again says, "Where am I?" to Roxas', "Who's there?" Maybe Nomura's hinting that Sora and Ven (and Roxas does have Ven's heart) talk a lot by doing that? IDK.

It could mean nothing and just be a cool parallel Nomura made. But at the same time, who really knows? But for consistency sake, I'd prefer it if Ven was the guiding voice.

But Mickey never even met Sora. The only thing Mickey had ever seen that was connected to Sora before KH1 was Ventus. And Mickey didn't even know that Ventus was in Sora, so really, i don't believe thats it was Mickey at all.

 

No matter what Nomura says, ill always believe that was Ventus speaking, because Mickey talking directly to Sora's mind, despite never meeting him before makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE WHATSOEVER.

Yeah, i believe it was Ventus, because that makes alot more sense. Forget what Nomura said, it was definitely Ventus who guided Sora in KH1 at the beginning, not Mickey. That is for sure.

I have a theory. In the Final Mix version after Riku's heart is sent to the realm of darkness, Mickey contacts Riku telling him that he was trying to reach him all along but the darkness in Riku's heart rendered his voice inaudible. If you pay close attention Riku adresses the exact same things the voice told Sora in the awakening when the darkness swallowed Riku and Sora obtained the keyblade: 

 

Mickey: The door is still shut ... The day the door will open is both far off and very near ... You are the one who will open the door.

Riku: The door has opened...

Mickey: but do not be afraid

Riku: I'm not afraid of the darkness

 

Mickey was simply connecting with the keyblade's chosen one, which so happened to be both Riku and Sora at that time. 

 

Should we find this weird or even possible? Because Mickey definitely contacted Riku without any previous interaction it should be entirely possible for him to have done the same with Sora. Now, if the reason he was able to contact Riku was the keyblade, which seems most likely, the fact that the keyblade fell between the two meshes with the theory that Mickey's message was splintered off to both Riku and Sora. The voice reached Riku's subconscience despite being directed to Sora's heart which he mistook for Riku's or simply the keyblade wielder's.

 

The dialogue at the very end of the game confirms this as well. Remember that letter: "Don't forget you are the one who will open the door to the light" exactly mirrors the speech from the begining and that letter was yes, from Mickey.

I think it could have been Mickey because Keyblade Masters, or at the very least wielders with that amount of proficiency, can sense when they're in the presence of someone who may one day be able to wield one themselves. Seeing as how he was the only active Master for a decade before the first game, it's possible that Mickey has a more advanced version of this ability that allows him to sense, and even communicate with, those that have the potential even when they're on another world.

 

Besides, everyone knows that Micky is the Yoda of the Kingdom Hearts universe so obviously he's omnipotent. (though not so much as Master Xehanort apparently)

I like the Ven theory. I'm really hoping the voice turns out to be anyone but Mickey. He's cool and everything but just not mysterious.

I get the feeling all Ven just needs is to be lead to the realm of light and that his heart is more or less fine. Remember what Yen Sid said: What Ventus needs is for his friends to be there to lead him to the realm of light. The whole: "three lights" deal (which come to think of it brings to mind DDD) ending up never materializing because Terra was engulfed by Xehanort, Aqua was in the realm of darkness (and so would have lead him the wrong way), and Mickey may have well forgot about him for a while. All Sora should need to be is to rescue Aqua he should return. Anyway the main point I meant to get at was that Ven's heart is probably mostly healed by now.

We don't really know when Ven's heart started awakening, even if his small moments of involvement can be due to him waking up.  And it wasn't until the start of 3D.  Ven gave Roxas the power to dual wield at the end of Days, so that would be the first moment he has shown awareness.  But you have a right to still believe that too.  I just personally like to think Ventus has been guiding Sora from the beginning
