I grew up knowing Pokemon was a thing, but not having any interest in it. Now, with me extending my grabby tendrils into the vast wealth of video games... I am faced with this: Should I grab a Pokemon game and just have some fun? More importantly, would I have fun?

Where would I start? I know there are a metric buttton.of games... red, blue, black, white, platinum, abcdexyz ... is there a story? Or rather: Is there a story that requires me to have all the games?

Etcetera etcetera. Inform me.

platinum is also awesome :D

Each game's plot is independent, except for black/white/2, since they are sequels and prequels to each others.

I stopped playing after Heartgold and Soulsilver, but Platinum and those games were really great. I'd definitely give them a shot.

You can start with HeartGoldSoulSilver if you want to start with the early gens

Every game has it's seperate story but if you want a really interesting plot you can start with either Platinum or Black & White 1&2

Trust me,Pokemon is easy to get to and have a lot of fun without the need to set through long tedious cutscenes or mountains of boring dialogues....those things Pokemon has avoided in a pretty good way.

You don't need to have all the games to understand the story because the story is pretty simple and actually that's the charm of Pokemon's plot...even when they have some complex like Black & White it's still easy to get into and enjoy.

Also since the recent years had a huge lack of good JRPGs out there.Pokemon stands as one of the few good ones.

Start with Pokemon Heart Gold or Soul Silver, now THOSE were excellent games. And if you feel you like it TRY THE SPIN OFFS ESPECIALLY MYSTERY DUNGEON

Or if you like GBA emulators you can always try Emerald~

Pokemon has no plot-based games except for Black and white, Black and White 2. HOPE YOU ADDICTED SOON

You should definitely get into it. If you want the most out of the story of the games play them in order.

Fire red and leaf green> Heart gold and soul silver> ruby, emerald, saphire> onwards and so on

Actually the canon is like this

Kanto League and Hoenn League>Johto League and Sinnoh League>Unova League

It has been mention that Gen 1 and Gen 3 story occurs at the same time, same with Gen 2 and Gen 4(Which explain why trainers from Johto like Jasmine was in DiamondPearlPlatinum)

I meant region/generation order actually, not chronological (that would be a lot of jumping around). Probably should've specified that.

I say go for it.  You never know what you love if you don't try it.  For me Pokemon has something I've enjoyed since I was a kid with playing the games and watching the show on and off.  And a few for my favorite characters come form Pokemon too (inb4omegaforteandmilking).

I really appreciate the input, guys. I'm definitely putting the series towards the top of my list of games to get. Thank you ~ :-)
