Well, to no one's surprise, ZeRo won sm4sh singles EVO 2015.

 

But, there is an interesting tweet ZeRo sent out a while back. If you can't read it, it basically says ZeRo is going to focus on Melee for a year if he wins EVO.

 

I doubt he's going to actually do this, but who knows.

 

So, ZeRo has officially responded to the Melee tweet he did a while back.

 

While I am slightly disappointed that I won't be able to see some sick plays he may come up with for Melee, I think it's really for the best for the Sm4sh competitive scene. Much respect to him for being honest.

Big update coming to the Wii U version on Friday. It will include Tourney mode (FINALLY!) and the YouTube replay feature. Some new stages and Mii costumes are also being released alongside the update, all of which will be on both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game, of course: In terms of stages, we're getting the two N64 stages shown in the E3 Smash presentation (Hyrule Castle and Peach's Castle). For the Mii Fighters, costumes have been shown for Chrom, King K. Rool, a Smash hoodie (similar to the Smash shirt from the first set of costumes). Sounds like the 31st will be a big day for Smash.

Also, I went ahead and took a look at the comments on the Tweet announcing Chrom. If Chrome's auto-translate was correct, it looks like the Smash JP Twitter page said that more costumes will be revealed soon. That could mean the K. Rool and Smash hoodie costumes, but I feel like it wouldn't be a stretch for a few more costumes to be included.

There is a chance, albeit very small, that K. Rool is still going to be in. When Meta Knight was confirmed to be returning, Sakurai trolled people by posting a Mii Swordsman in a Picture of the Day dressed as Meta Knight. He revealed the real one was going to be in 2 days later.

 

Just wanted to throw that out there. Still very small chance of K. Rool really being in.

If K. Rool doesn't win the ballot along with Isaac, I'll be surprised. They have the most support, aside from old veterans and Ridley. I doubt the ballot will be used to bring a veteran back, and, well... Ridley's too big for Smash.

Wait, when did he say that? I was certain Wolf would be the next character announced, with Star Fox Zero coming soon, and Wolf being one of the most requested returning fighters so far along with Snake (I'll still be over here waving my Ice Climbers flag, even though they wouldn't work with the 3DS version...). Guess not.

 

Still hoping for Seven, though I'm pretty sure K. Rool and Isaac will be the ones to come out of the ballot.

To be honest, I'm not too interested in indie characters. Shovel Knight and Quote are the ones that I'd like to see. I haven't played Shantae yet (yet, before anyone tells me I need to), so I'm not really interested in seeing her to be honest (Not saying he shouldn't be in, just that I'd be indifferent). I'm going for the first party characters from under-represented and more obscure series, as well as the Inklings.

This is my worst nightmare. I didn't expect this to happen with Lloyd. I'm starting to think that they're either just too lazy to work on characters like Lloyd, or the smash ballet is actually lets characters in the game in the form of a mii costume. I guess I'll appreciate what we have now because something is better than nothing.

There's a leak of a Dr. Mario stage and Great Bay for Smash 4 floating around somewhere.

I agree about the Lloyd costume. Personally, when I heard Namco was working on Smash 4, I was hoping we'd have gotten a  Tales character for a Namco rep. over Pacman, it would've been more hype and more people would've been excited. : But oh well, I guess we'll settle for this cool costume instead.

Just because a character has a Mii costume doesn't mean they won't be in the game. Link and Meta Knight both have Mii costumes, and they're playable characters. No need to point fingers at Nintendo when we still don't know for sure who will be included as a DLC character.

Apparently, the file size of the patch is very big, about 500MB. That could imply that a character is in those files, but we won't know for sure until someone breaks into the files and datamines it.

 

So yeah, it looks like the Dr. Mario stage is fake, unless they come out with something more out of nowhere.

I'll be jumping for joy if the character that's in the files is Lloyd, but I'm going to get my hopes up until they actually show something off. 

Wow, that datamine was a lot quicker than I expected. Anyways, no characters were hidden in the files. Looks like a false alarm.

 

Reddit is teaming up to list all of the confirmed changes that came with the update, so there it is if anyone is interested.

 

Talking purely content, I'm meh with it. I don't play Mii Fighters at all, nor does anyone else that play with me. I'm happy that some of the smaller characters, like Lloyd and Black Knight, got some representation. The stages I don't really care too much about, since I didn't play the 64 version, and I don't really like the look of the stages.

 

I'd have to look more into Tourney Mode, but from what I'm seeing, it seems to be disappointing. I can't limit matches to 1v1s. I can't make a regular tourney with brackets, only some sort of mosh pit with people being randomly paired up. You can only compete for the number of wins or points earned. There is an option for a 1v1 For Glory setting, but it seems only Nintendo can host them, not other players.

 

Moving to the Replays, any old ones before the update will be broken, so if you have any you want to keep, record them now. You can now directly upload your replays to Youtube. However, you have to have the game be three minutes or less, or else it will not convert it into a video and upload it for you. You can't even edit it or give it a time frame. Just the whole three or less minutes of the match.

 

I don't have a replay that runs it to time and goes sudden death, because really, I don't have the patience to see if that works. Instead, here's a video that I had run through the converter and uploaded to Youtube through the new feature.

 

This took about three minutes to play the match, three minutes for the converter to replay the match, and about thirty minutes for the video to upload to Youtube. It doesn't record 60 FPS. It only goes up to 720p. I don't recommend using this at all, since it's so much easier to just use an average phone camera and record however long you want, without waiting some thirty minutes to upload a three or so minute video.

Three other costumes were added into the update that we weren't told about beforehand: Black Knight from Fire Emblem (One of Ike's games from what I've heard, haven't played them so I can't say which one), Samus' armor, as well as the K.K. Slider costume, which is included for free with the update. Anyone plan on getting any of the costumes? I was kind of considering getting the bundle with everything, but I think I'll just get the stages in both versions, along with the Flying Man costume and Samus' armor. Might pick up the Inkling set with the left-over money, and get the hoodie later.

 

I'm also rocking the K.K. Slider costume on my main Mii Gunner for now. Love his laser guitar.

It's so frustrating when picking up a new main affects your skill with an older one. ._. I'm not even very good with Lucas, either. It was all for nothing ;_;

Well, I caved and bought the Lloyd costume. On the 3DS version, the outline actually makes it look quite reminiscent of what it looked like in the GC game. Plus, the Mii Swordfighter has attacks to make a semi-passable Lloyd moveset.

 

Blurring Blade = Sword Rain

Airborne Assault = Tempest

Skyward Slash Dash = nothing, but the best out of the up-b specials. Fits Lloyd well enough.

Power Thrust = Sonic Thrust, and when used in the air kinda works as Rising Phoenix's descent.

 

Do kinda wish the costume would've had Flamberge or Vorpal Blade instead of his default sword, but ah well.
