I think some GameCube boxes said a similar thing when the Wii came out. Besides, I've seen people who prevented their children from buying DS games for their 3DS because they didn't know about the compatibility, so having that tag is useful.

    Yeah its a marketing thing, People will be more inclined to buy a 3DS if they see these games that work on it instead of buying a used DS.
