In Dream drip distance it was stated that in order for the keyblade to be forged that seven gurdians of light will have to clash with thirteen seekers of darkness however xeahnort only has 12 currently hey thought about using riku and then moved to roxas. Then they moved to using sora but he was saved so will xeahnort still target sora or somehow find someone else to take his place. Maybe he wants to use ventus wasn't xemnas looking for the the chamber of awakening as revealed in KH2 FM . Maybe that's why and xeahnort also took ventus on as a apprentice and wanted him to use his darkness before seeing it want plausible so as a plan b he created vanitas. So anyway sora or maybe someone new as the thirteenth dark vessel

I'd imagine there are many candidates/and/or targets for the 13th so it's hard to say since we don't even know all the identities of the other 12 yet either, only some. .Ven was Xehanorts first choice but when that didn't work out he chose Terra..He was just deemed unsuitable for Xehanorts purpose and he didn't even expect him to live after splitting him thats why MX dropped him off to die pretty much at DI. Then when he saw Ven was to live, he dropped him off with Eraqus to see if his plan of using him could still work . That's when he met Terra and decided that he would make a better vessel for Xehanort to inhabit.Anyways since we don't know all the other 12 darknesses' present identities it's hard to say who it could or couldn't be bc there is a chance they already are one of the hooded darknesses.Plus time travel complicates this bc MX could try to pick up another version of any of his incarnations to remedy this as well. So really it's up in the air .We do know as of right now Ven is still in CO safe and sound and his heart is still with Sora. Xemnas was just never successful at actually finding him so for now he's not a darkness and in the past he wasn't suitable so a past version from time travel won't do either .

Sora won't be the 13th vessel, they wouldn't have go through all the effort to do that at the end of 3D to just have it be another part of the story in it's sequel.  Sora will always be the main playable character and you can't really play as him as an enemy.  MX had wanted Ven but Xemnas was unable to locate the room in CO, most likely on his awakening there'll be some struggle where an enemy has followed them to the location.  Only a few people are really confirmed as darknesses, Ansem Seeker of Darkness, Xemnas, Braig, Isa, and I'm unsure if MX counts himself as a vessel or not, Terra pretty much is confirmed too given his statement but we can't be sure if he meant Terranort, pulled from the timeline or that he still has the revived Terra (after his heartless and nobody were defeated).  With that many out of 13 there's a huge gap of possibilities for new characters/originals.  They're meant to surprise us though, though we could think of the obviously acceptable ones like Young Master Xehanort, evil/dark characters like Sephiroth or one of the missing revived Organization members (Luxord most likely), but you're going to be surprised, for example the missing since BBS Zack or really surprisingly a Disney character or Passive character like Olette or Minnie Mouse.  We're meant to be surprised so it'll be hard to accurately predict the remaining darknesses til they're revealed.

This goes back to the theory about the 7th guardian of light.  But since we know six of the 7 guardians, this is a bit more tricky. I am going to go out on a limb here and say the unrevealed members in KH3D were members of the original Organization XIII.  This is probably not right, but I honestly do not think that any other characters that have been introduced so far could possibly be one of the unrevealed 13 darknesses.

But the 7 lights are not confirmed so we don't actually know for a fact those 6 are it. Just that Mickey thought so but could be wrong or Nomura used that as a red herring to trick people since he himself stated the 7 were not confirmed and that their actual identities will be surprising. MX even states that any lost lights would just be replaced naturally and that's why he's not worried about the whereabouts of the missing wielders or using Terra and Sora as a darkness instead . As for the remaining original org members we haven't seen yet again it is certainly possible. 

So this means that likely it will be a unexpected turn of events and we can't predict it and ven is safe well that's good.

Does Terra count towards the 13?  We have Ansem (seeker of darkness), Xemnas, MX, YX, Xigbar, and Saix.  Since Xemnas and Ansem are the Nobody and Heartless of Terranort, does Terranort count towards the 13?  I think the 13th member will probably be a new character that could be the new primary antagonist going forward.

In other words, since the heart shapes the vessel maybe MX's heart is the overpowering heart and therefore giving Terra's body the appearance of the old man . Or maybe Terra's heart escaped  the body leaving MX in charge. That's just my theory. As for Terranort that would also make sense to include him .

The darknesses we know for sure are:

 

Young Xehanort, Ansem SOD, Xemnas, Master Xehanort, Isa, Braig and thats it. There are still 7 unconfirmed darknesses, like how the 7 lights are unconfirmed.

I myself have chosen to believe that Vanitas has rejoined Ventus's heart and now his heart is recompleted just asleep because of the X-blade's destruction and the brakage of their fusion. I was also fixed on that Sora could still be used if an alternate version was infused with MX heart. But in 3D seeing that hearts like these can become their own person and be restored and the scene where Vanitas appears besides Young Xehanort there is a possibilty he might return in KH3. I just thought that maybe his heart didn't rejoin Ventus after rewatching Ventus and Vanitas fight in BBS and thinking that perhaps seemingly destroyed he did become his own person and this can be used to somehow bring him back. Not that Sora would intentionaly do that if he knew who he is. Being Master Xehanort's former apprentice he could bring Vanitas back and fill in the space that is left in his SoD group.

Sora defiantly isn't the 13th vessel.

Vanitas can come back via time travel. He is to badass to only be in BBS. He was in 3D for like 5 seconds, but still.

what about the riku replica in CoM ?

Lol. Xehanorts has like 40 incarnations of himself through the timeline. Won't be to find a thirteenth darkness.
