Riku:

Riku didn't create a nobody because it was used by Ansem.

I'm not totally sure for why he didn't create a Heartless though...

Kairi:

Kairi didn't create a Heartless because she doesn't have darkness in her heart. She is one of the seven Princesses of Heart and they don't have darkness in their heart. In order to create a Heartless you need darkness in your heart.

If you read the Ansem reports in KH2, you would know why Kairi doesnt have a heartless. Riku never lost his heart, he just used the power of darkness.

1. Riku never lost his heart. Therefore, no Heartless, no Nobody.

2. Since Kairi has no darkness in her heart, she can't produce a Heartless. She can still have a Nobody though(Namine)

Well Riku's heart was never taken from him, and Kairi is one of the seven Princesses of Heart, which means she has zero darkness in her heart, meaning she can't create a Heartless.

When Ansem possessed Riku, his heart went to the realm of Darkness, hence why he appeared there. But it would have only become a heartless if it had stayed in the realm of light.

In order to create a nobody your body has to lose its heart and still remeber it's prevoius life (exept for roxas and xion of course who couldn't remember a thing). So if Riku's body was posessed by ansem it couldn't have gone anywhere and turn into a nobody cause Ansem was using it for his own plans.

Riku: When he was possessed by Ansem SoD, it was more like his heart was pushed out of reach (haven't play the game in years). So technically, he never lost his heart to the darkness, and therefore neither Heartless nor Nobody were born.

Kairi: Simple. She didn't lose her heart to the darkness. Instead, it migrated and took refuge within Sora. Namine technically isn't a Nobody. She was born when Sora released Kairi's heart with the Heart Unlocker, but it was already confirmed that Roxas is Sora's body and soul, which leaves Namine with...pretty much nothing. It's really more like she and the others are calling her a Nobody because they don't know what else to call her, even though by definition, she isn't a Nobody.

i liked the way you put it

Keep in mind that when Sora became a Heartless he became a regular shadow, so even if they did create a Heartless, it could have easily been a faceless one.

Same thing with Nobodies.

But yeah, what everyone is saying in this topic is true a well.
