Dracozombie 4,554 Posted July 16, 2013 Watch how many one-sentence "Yeah, probably" or "Interesting!" posts this thread will get because of this firetrucking contest. And how many "tl'dr" responses I get. What, you don't come to forums to read mini-essays? Remember the three question Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie ask Sora during his Dive to the Heart in KH1? I'm imagining they serve more purpose than determining your leveling curve. The three questions Sora gets and their answers are: "What's most important to you?" Being number one. Friendship. My prize possessions. "What do you want out of life?" To see rare sights. To broaden my horizons. To be strong. And "What are you afraid of?" Getting old. Being different. Being indecisive. I can interpret these questions as representing Sora, Riku, and Kairi. The best way of determining the leveling curve is to answer the first, second, or third options of each question. Respectively, they give us a curve that's easy at first but hard later; even throughout; and tough at first but easy later. Respectively, they're the "dawn," "midday," and "dead of night" options. But the responses themselves can correspond to Sora, Riku, and Kairi. For instance, "Being number one," "To see rare sights," and "Getting old" kinda sounds like Riku in KH1. In KH1, Riku was a capable, confident, sorta douche-y guy, reflected in the "dawn" responses--and go figure, his future keyblade is Way to the Dawn. He's the most invested in seeing the outside world, and he turns to darkness which seems like an easy answer, but he later finds out its consequences and he gets a tough journey from then on. "Getting old" could represent a fear of becoming weak or irrelevant--and coincidentally, it will reflect his not-so-pleasant experience with Master Xehanort and his incarnations. Sora in general seems even and level throughout, never losing sight of himself (until Namine). Midday is sunny, reflecting his disposition, and the "midday" responses of "Friendship," "To broaden my horizons," and "Being different" are totally like him. He treasures friendship and he talks of seeing other worlds. All three have the same wish, but Sora's goal from visiting other worlds is just to explore them and see what it's like, whereas Riku wanted to find something to better himself aka get stronger. "Being different" requires some stretching to interpret. Sora believes in the connection among all hearts. Being different could mean being outside that network, and few things could scare Sora more than not being a part of others. Namine temporarily makes this happen, and Sora's fear of this partially fuels her decision to keep him asleep during his memory reconstruction. Kairi takes some stretching as well, mainly from how her depth is almost nil, but it's workable. The "dead of night" responses can represent her initial weakness but later found strength with the keyblade. "My prized possessions" can represent the charms she makes for her friends, which really are important to her and Sora from what they represent. "To be strong" comes from how she's initially unable to do anything to help, and she hates it. "Being indecisive" is the same thing. She herself ones claims that maybe waiting isn't good enough, and she knows she needs to take action (fat a lot of good it does her in the end, but the spirit counts). Probably just a coincidence, but I felt like being insightful because I like pretending I'm smart. 2 Dave and Shulk reacted to this

Dracozombie 4,554 Posted July 16, 2013 Wow I never really thought of it like that. How did you notice? I'm very impressed. Mainly because I remembered the questions, saw their purpose and how they connected, and I thought "Hmm... that's a coincidence. I think I'll write a long post about it!" Caity 3,946 Posted July 16, 2013 This is one theory I've read that makes an awful lot of sense. I'd be really surprised if Nomura planned that representation so early on, or if it just happened to fall into place.

I highly doubt he planned it to that extent, but part of what makes KH so cool is that, intentionally or not, there are things that just fall into place. Sometimes he plans it and sometimes they're happy coincidences. Either way, it manages to work.
