What do Nobodies gain from pretending to have hearts?

Posted

You know the part at the beginning, in Yen Sids Tower? He warns Sora that Nobodies don't have hearts, and that they would try to trick him into thinking that they did.

About halfway through the game, you fight Demyx, who tries to trick Sora into thinking he has a heart (Why Sora doesn't remember that he doesn't have one is beyond me) Goofy reminds Sora that Demyx is a Nobody, and as such Demyx isn't able to trick him.

What could any Nobody possibly have gained from convincing Sora they had a heart? Sora has fought plenty of people with hearts and not worried about it at all.

It's just mind games that they were playing on Sora. Remember that they tried to manipulate him into giving them hearts, so idk maybe they thought if he thought they had hearts he wouldnt know the true reason in destroying the Heartless.

You can consider it a mind game they were playing on Sora. It really didn't matter because he went on ahead and slaughtered them all and wiped them from nonexistence (even if they're probably alive somewhere).

For some people though, it might be more of a habit, something they do unconsciously. Even in 358/2 Days, a few of them still acted as though they had emotions, even though they were lacking a heart. It can be thought of as acting upon instinct; that when presented with a particular situation, they react based on their memories.

I don't think they do it for Sora, it's for themselves. And for Demyx didn't admit he didn't have a heart, it's because he's Demyx, he is a cheery person once and wanted to become cheery person forever, but he can't be cheery if he has no heart so... he lied to himself.

That's what I think, since Xigbar in days also seems annoyed to talk about they don't have heart.

They pretend to have hearts because it's the closest they can get to one right now. It is obvious that they want one.

No, I understand that Nobodies emulate emotions and such, but Yen Sid specifically warns Sora that the Nobodies will try and trick him.

What would the danger be? Demyx was obviously trying to trick Sora, he said 'We do to have hearts, don't be mad'

What would have changed if Sora had believed him?

i dont think theyre trying to fool sora

i think they just act that way cuz thats the closest they can get to being human

they dont have hearts but they remember what it was like to have them

Well, in a way Demyx did have a point when he stated that they did have hearts. It's still could have been possible that their hearts have been sent to kingdom hearts, possibly through the heartless since the emblem heartless release a heart and can be collected by the members, as was shown by Luxord in Port Royal. In a way Xemna could have been telling the truth about becoming complete and regaining/receiving a heart for themselves. They all, up to a point, had a heart before they became nobodies.

well, in the beginning of 358/2 days (i think its in the manga) it says "They remember feelings from when they were somebodies" and so they use that. That is why Roxas didn't know how to talk...

And Demyx probably used that and when he said "Ohh we do to have hearts, don't be mad" he probably said that because when Sora (or Donald) said "Nobodies, no hearts, remember?" Demyx said that.

So just he though of having Hearts made them feel better (or made it more.. active?) about having their hearts stolen, taken away or however they became heartless.

You also never know, the questions will probably be revealed in Birth By Sleep. (About the whole Heart and Nobody Theory.)
