Ok so what I want to know is why are heartless called heartless and why nobody's are called nobody's I think it would make more sense if nobody's were heartless since they don't have hearts and heartless to be nobody's since they don't have body's. What do you guy's think?

I don't really remember if there is a reason..I always though it was sort of funny though.

Yeah I found it kinda funny too but I wonder why they did that.

Heartless do lack emotions. Making them heartless.

Also Heartless just collect hearts. They don't have their own.

I think that's right...

I have been saying this to myself and occasionally to others around me for years now. That the heartless technically are just hearts (that gave into the darkness) with no bodies, and the nobodies are bodies without hearts. 0_0

It could just be Nomura trolling us.

But They also don't have bodies and nobodies also don't have hearts although they can grow them.

Not sure if you meant to describe the nobodies or not...

Or imagine this whole time it was mis translated and was actually switched? Nvmd, 2012 already past.

Describing Heartless.

I just remember a scene where a heartless was collecting hearts. So yeah. :P They might have changed over the years too..It's hard to remember.

I thought it was nobodies who were known for their lack of emotion?

I think I am going to have to pay attention and read the ORIGINAL Ansem reports again.

I think I am going to have to pay attention and read the ORIGINAL Ansem reports again.

This is from Ansem report 3 in KH1

The shadows that crawl beneath the castle... Are they the people who lost their hearts, or incarnations of darkness? Or something entirely beyond my imagination?
All my knowledge has provided no answer. One thing I am sure of is that they are entirely devoid of emotion. Perhaps further study will unlock the mysteries of the heart.
Fortunately, there is no shortage of test samples. They are multiplying underground even as I write this report. They still need a name. Those who lack hearts... I will call them the Heartless.

Also Ansem report 4

The Heartless appear in groups, and are multiplying rapidly. I've provided them both living and nonliving samples. They've responded only to the living. They seem to multiply after absorbing something from the living creatures. Their prey vanishes without a trace.
I believe the Heartless are taking hearts. They are born from those who've lost their hearts, and thrive on hearts seized from others. The hearts taken by the Heartless become Heartless themselves.
Though I lack proof, I am confident in this hypothesis. I must also study their behavioral principles. Though they lack emotions, they do seem to have some intelligence. How to communicate with them?
It's just occurred to me: Could they be the darkness in people's hearts?

And in Halloween Town the doctor tries to give a heartless an artificial heart. So, maybe the darkness becomes a Heartless's heart, think about it. They gave in completely to the darkness, and then they become mindless servants of that darkness.

And that would make sense for that I think one of the Xehanorts in DDD almost sounded like that the plot in KHII was to actually give EVERYONE Xehanort's heart. So no wonder why Xehanort is obsessed with the darkness that consumes hearts and makes them hollow shells of hearts to do its bidding. (spreading the darkness)

It was supposed to be the other way around, like you said it. Heartless do have Hearts, you can that by every Heartless Sora kills a heart is released.

I doo think Heartless have emotions, but they're completely irrational, always trying to bring more hearts to the darkness they live in. Nobodies are the vessel left behind (the bodies) devoid of Hearts, without emotions for the portion of time till they develop their new hearts.

It's really just a name, but it would make more sense if it was the other way around. But now it's pretty much impossible to not think about the color silver when the word Nobodies is spoken. xP

But this is very onfusing indeed... Nobodies don't REALLY lack hearts completely as shown in KH3D, so they're not properly Heartless as well. And the Nobodies were named this way because of their "non-existence" state Ansem thought they lived in so they're "No one" "Nobody" really

Sounds like a paradox. Some website I saw explained it well

This is pretty spot on

These are things that were said multiple times during kh1 and 2. Except for the ddd part. I don't know why people are still confused by it.

Actually looking into this further, the nobodies do seem to have emotions and fake having a heart even though they can regrow one. They just are no one anymore. And heartless even if they do have hearts their actions seem to lack any mercy or compassion. (heartless)Edit: So yeah it appears that people defending the names were correct. Heartless and nobodies aren't describing what they have or what they don't have, it is describing who they are or how they act.

It's basically it could be both. If we look at the side of what they literally have, we would get the opposite. Nobodies have bodies and Heartless have hearts.

But like you said, it goes a little further than that. I never really thought about this: "They are heartless beings", just really remebered part of Ansem's Secret Reports on the Nobody side. "They don't really exist, so they're nobody" idea.

I think Xehanort came up with the name Nobodies because he had to make people feel like they were a Nobody and that they had no heart so their only hope was to join the Org. and once kingdom hearts was made they'd have hearts. But it was a trick because he he knew they'd grow back hearts he just wanted to fill them with his heart. Luckily for them Sora wiped them out before that could happen.

Because irony.

yeah it is kinda confusing when you really get down and nitpick it, but hey, nomura did what nomura did y'know heartless are heartless and nobodies are nobodies

I know right?! It's really dumb.

In the end I think this is just a matter of opinion on what name fits better so I'll just leave it up to Nomura.
