August 22, 201312 yr There is no real best. It's based on personal preference. I usually go with the sword to get offensive abilities like Sliding Dash and Counterattack earlier on in the game. ? Sacrificing the shield will result in a lower defense stat.

Pick the staff. You get abilities like MP Haste, second chance, and the ability to regain MP when you're hit at like lvl 20, but if you pick the sword you get them at lvl 60+, where at that point you should have beaten the game already. These abilities are a MUST in this game if you're playing on proud. Edited August 22, 201312 yr by Raziel

For a Proud playthrough, if you want an easier time, Just Pick the Shield and sacrifice Magic. You can't rely on Magic alot of the time, since you'll mostly need it for healing if you're a low level. However you can ALWAYS ATTACK so its better to Pick the Shield and leave the Staff, but DONT LEAVE THE SWORD. On a casual playthrough, i just choose Sword and give up Defense. I dont mind. Im only going with the above mentioned set up for my first proud playthrough in KH 1.5 because i want to have an easier time doing all the extra bosses and stuff in the game. Thanks I do plan on playing proud is proud avaliable right away? Also what should I drop? Also yeah, Proud is available right away for ALL KH GAMES that have it. Its critical that needs to be unlocked by doing Proud mode.
August 22, 201312 yr Hey what will you recommend guys I'm thinking get shield give up sword and I'm gonna play on proud I have a system I first play on normal then easy then proud
August 23, 201312 yr I take sword and give up staff since magic is pretty useless besides cure and aero in kh1.

Sacrificing the staff doesn't lower your MP or magic power, it lowers your AP. So when you sacrifice the staff your ability to get combo plus, lucky strikes, second chance, ect. lessens. Though since what you chose is the only thing that effects your level ups, not what you gave up, your defense/ap/strength differences will be within 3. So, I guess what you get rid of only really matters early game, or until you start crafting stat boosts. That being said, in the final mix version picking the shield is probably going to be the safest path, and the staff is probably going to be the hardest path for new players. If you pick sword or shield, choose if you want a little more attack/defense power, or if you want to equip more of your abilities early on.
August 23, 201312 yr Thanks I do plan on playing proud is proud avaliable right away? Also what should I drop? I'd drop the shield since you can get def boosts in the game anyways. *hint hint* Pick the staff for the AMAZING abilities you get that keep you alive longer. If you have MP haste you can heal a lot more because you're going to be hit a lot. It's basically free magic when you're hit. You also get Second Chance at like lvl 20-30 which if you're hit by a move that would normally kill you, it'd save you with 1 hp left so you'd be able to heal back up. If you pick anything but the staff, you get that ability lvl 60+. It's like not even a question for me lol. I take sword and give up staff since magic is pretty useless besides cure and aero in kh1. USELESS?!!? Dude, I was TWO shotting (literally) the final heartless in End of the World that have 1 1/2 bars of HP with Graviga. It's AMAZZZZING. The staff also gives you an extra bar of MP which is another free heal, and MP haste is awesome. You can heal like double the amount of times than if you didn't have it. Not to mention it gives you second chance extremely early into the game, whereas if you pick anything else, you'd likely get it after you already beat it because it gives it to you at lvl 60 or more. Well, even if it lowers AP, since im doing this on my 100% run, ill just grind for some AP ups when needed for the extra bosses. But thanks for the tip though. In the original KJIn the original kingdom hearts it was normal and then expert mode were the 2 modes available, if I can recall? Yes, but here its different. In KH Final Mix, there are 3 Difficulty modes. Beginner, Standard(Its called Final Mix Mode) and Proud. Proud is the hardest, its even harder then the original kingdom hearts Expert mode. All the final mix games are harder then the original, since the enemies are tweaked to give more of a challenge.
August 24, 201312 yr Sword and Shield: Strength and defense. Magic.... admit it: who ACTUALLY used muck magic in KH? I just let Donald do it all. ^_^ never sacrifice your shield Say huh?
August 24, 201312 yr Author Sword and Shield: Strength and defense. Magic.... admit it: who ACTUALLY used muck magic in KH? I just let Donald do it all. ^_^ Say huh? Yea but you get some cool combos in this game thanks to the new abilities, in which if you pick the staff earlier you will get many of those abilities at a way earlier level, sames goes for the sword but you WONT get a lot of new abilities at a high level if you pick the shield. Donald spams the hell out of the magic thats why hes always dead with half a bar of magic left lmfao, because of the lack of specific customization options in Kh1 it was hard to control your AI to the fullest, those problems were fixed in kh2 but it didn't matter since the game was super easy. August 24, 201312 yr Author Point taken. <_< I meant to say picking the shield you will not get a lot of the new abilities until later lmfao.

August 25, 201312 yr I think in the original non-FM game the staff was superior. Slightly harder earlier on but the two extra magic bars really helped during the end game as it meant you could spam abilities more/heal more. Doesn't make too much of a difference but it is nice having more MP, and some important abilities are earned earlier with the staff. Any difference in attack/defence can be made up by crafting but getting the additional MP is impossible.
September 1, 201312 yr Sword and Shield: Strength and defense. Magic.... admit it: who ACTUALLY used muck magic in KH? I just let Donald do it all. ^_^ Say huh? Uh....Me? It's obvious you never used it because later on, it's overpowered as HELL. Graviga literally 2-3 shots the end of the world enemies...Whereas it takes like 30 keyblade hits to kill them...Magic is seriously underrated. Donald is a weak little ant compared to what Sora can achieve with magic. I was even able to wipe out half of a whole bar on some boss battles with each Graviga... Use my advice once you get Graviga. You won't regret it, I assure you. That's kind of why they implemented magic. Edited September 1, 201312 yr by Raziel

The customization options in Kingdom Hearts 2 is what Kingdom Hearts 1 needed except for the fact that Kingdom Hearts 2 was super easy so there was no point lol.
September 1, 201312 yr It depends on what you pick and what level the new abitites are in. There's 2 new ones they added that were in KH3D that will be in the final mix version of KH1.5.

September 2, 201312 yr i was always tempted to pick the staff because it gives you more MP, I personally like to have a lot of MP, but I'm also against picking it because you don't get many good abilities till you're at a high level. Picking a weapon at the beginning has always left me thinking which is the best to pick and sacrifice.
