The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

The tram shot into motion. Rytt's voice sounded from their wrist-consoles. "The shuttle you will be taking will send you to the docking control center dock. From there you simply have to take the main hallway to the Psi bridge and take the elevator there to the restricted area, where the console you need to remove the tether is. I'll guide you if you get lost. By the way, the docking control center, like the name implies, houses the controls for all the airlocks on the station. If you have trouble... I will leave it up to you discretion if you wish to use those controls." The tram moved along rows of weapon racks and finally came to a row of airlocks, where a single small shuttle was sitting fastened to the dock rails. The tram moved close to the shuttle and Ferro's and Alex's chairs automatically shifted and were picked up and placed into the shuttle, then bolted in. The shuttle interior was very bare. A small holographic console sat before them with information about the various machines involved, and a large pane of tempered glass and plastic allowing them to see what was in front of the shuttle. The tram's sound drifted off and the shuttle was moved into one of the airlocks. "Ready?" Rytt's voice sounded quickly, and before an answer could be given the blast door behind them closed. The one before opened an a vast blackness sat before them. In its center was a silver shape that was oddly shaped, a strange mismatch of cylinders put together and connected to each other by smaller cylinders and tubes. It was a ways away, but it was most likely the size of a large cruise ship. The air escaped the chamber, and the engine in the shuttle began to sound. The distinct click of the shuttle disengaging from the rails that locked it in place sounded and they were off. The shuttle barreled forward toward the silver structure. It got bigger and bigger, and soon the the great black name "S.S. Psi." could be seen. The shuttle grew closer and closer and soon it became clear that it was headed for the end of one of the cylinders coming out of the structure, on the end of the cylinder were large doors like those that the shuttle had just come from. The doors opened and the shuttle continued to move. Once inside thrusters on the front of the small vehicle engaged and slowed it to a halt. The door behind them closed, and for a moment it was nothing but silence. "Sorry your first big space-journey was so anticlimactic, here' hoping things are more exciting inside." Rytt's voice came again. Two mechanical arms emerged from the left and right walls and secured the shuttle on rails inside. Then suddenly oxygen was blasted into the room from all sides. The blast door before them opened, showing a single set of normal double doors behind them and nothing else. The shuttle door opened. "Time to get moving gents."  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The elevator rocketed downward. "So listen," Veridyan's voice game cheerfully from their wrist-consoles, "there are small rockets in the sides of your suits. They are tied to receive neural impulses wirelessly, so the mere thought of using them will make them work. I have them turned off for now, because, y'know, obvious reasons. You may, um need them." The elevator stopped, and then came apart around them. The shaft they had come from above them was suddenly closed off. A single blast door stood before them. There was nothing else in the room. "You're gonna be going to the storage area which is at the bottom-area of the Psi. Opening this blast door will give you enough enough force to propel you there. I'll open the door, but it's up to you to get into it." All their suits suddenly began to function on their own, and helmets emerged from the area behind their neck, locking into place over their heads. It was mostly metal except for a clear visor in front of the eyes. "You have two minutes of oxygen. Got it? Just two." Veridyan was stressing the number. "Get a hold on your weapons. Get ready." The blast door roared open and suddenly the entire group was wrenched violently outward into space. A huge station was before them, formed of smaller cylinders that interconnected into a structure the size of a a humongous building. Behind them the green-painted Rex grew further and further away. Strangely, though there were dark spots covering much of the station. Only they were weren't dark spots, they were... "Meteoroids." Veridyan was not happy. His voice came through their helmets. "I wasn't expecting meteoroids. Get used to your rocket systems, now!" The small opening of the blast door could be seen on the other side of the meteoroids, that was their destination. "Quickly!" The huge space rocks grew closer, and then closer. It was time to get creative or be obliterated.  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Elaryse began to speak as the shuttle doors closed. "I have not been to Psi in sometime, I am unaware of it's condition, whether it has metals, or the like, I do not know. As for it's mainframe..." The shuttle was then pushed forward on its rail to a great blast door. "...you will be able to hack individual consoles and doors. I'll be sending you to the lab sector so you may find some things there to work with. The mainframe is only accessible from the bridge, which is a ways away, but that's where you will need to go to find the console that has control of the tether." The blast door behind them shut with a grinding sound. "I'm not sure what you will find in there, but I am sure that there are other humans working for the other SAs who are trying to get to the tether controls as well. If any one group gets there first they may be able to untether their own SA and engage even more restrictions on the others. Obviously this could serve a major issue, including getting you all stranded on the station if I can't reach you. How you deal with them is your discretion, but you will have to deal with." The blast door before them opened, showing the huge vacuum of space. All oxygen shot out, and the shuttle rumbled as the rails kept it in place. The engine then engaged and the rails unlocked. The shuttle flew forward toward s a large silver construct in the middle of the area. A green ship was partially showing underneath the station and some blue object on the far side could be seen as well. "As you can see, we are not alone." The shuttle drew closer to a docking port and the blast door opened for it. "I still have some control over Psi, good." Elaryse's voice was now coming directly from their wrist consoles. Then it happened. All around the docking bay the small defense turrets turned and engaged. A wave of bullet fire pelted the shuttle. It rocked terribly and flew off course. "Damn it! I don't know who's firing!" Elaryse's voice was anxious. "You'll have to jump!" The back side of everyone's armor clinked and their helmets engaged, covering their faces. Stale air filled their helmets and fogged the visors in the helmets for a moment. The shuttle door opened, and incredibly fast shots rang by the door. "You're sitting ducks in this shuttle. If you jump the turrets have less of a chance of hitting you. Jump and concentrate on moving forward, the thought alone should engage the wireless reciever on your suit that will engage the rockets. Imagine where you want to go and the rockets will adjust. Got it?" There was no time for answer. "Good! Now move!" The shuttler was being torn apart by gun fire. The docking bay wasn't too fire away, but a hail of shots stood between the group and the blast door. It had begun.

."Can't say I'm surprised." Derik thought. "I don't have the rockets like everyone else, and thus I'm going to have to rely on the low G environment to move me... Better make it a good jump then." He thought, waiting for the ship to face the open end of the airlock again, he prepared, and when he was ready, he broke the door to the ship open with a areal backspring kick, the door busting down, he used what little momentum he had from the springboard kick, in the mean time, to push off of the opposite wall, and pushed off as hard as he could, using the vacuum to propel him along with the push off from the wall, and headed towardsthe space station, bullets flying everywhere, Derik was scuffed up a bit, but he was able to move fast enough to mostly evade the shots and made it into the station barely.

Alex followed behind Ferro, keeping up the rear and remaining silent. It seemed like the perfect duo-- two genisuses -at least, Alex felt that Ferro was rather intelligent- both incredibly armed; one cocky, the other silent, sent on a dangerous mission. Felt almost like a movie. Alex kept his gun up and straight. The suit did wonders in keeping his arms steady. He looked behind him as the door opened, waiting to see what was revealed.

Beyond the double doors was. . .

A great hallway that went on for a ridiculous length. On the left and right walls there were various automatic doors, all of them had red lights next to them, a universal sign that they were locked. On the very far side of the hallway were two doors, both with green lights next to them.

On the floor of the hallway in front of the two was a small circular piece of electronic equipment, almost like an earlier model of their wrist-console.

Come on in, it's been too long, Rytt, I'll give my best regards to your friends. It's been too long since you learned my lessons.

Ferro bent down and picked up the holo-comm. "I'll pocket this for now. It sounds like somebody who knows Rytt is using it. Maybe they could help us in some way." Ferro quickly looked at the scan of the hallway, then fired a shot down its length. He placed the second portal on the wall next to him and stepped through. "This way is faster than walking," Ferro said to Alex. He could be seen both down the hallway and through the portal. Ferro grinned, as he knew most people unfamiliar with the portal mechanics were quite unnerved by them.

Rodin says:  "Seems like we're already dealing with hostile forces." as he heard about the turrets firing.  He got to the doors Derik kicked opened and thought:  We have armor on so the bullets shouldn't penetrate.  But they could be armor piercing.  If that's the case, we should be careful regardless.  Rodin looks back to Samantha and Seraphim and says:  "Seems like we already found trouble.  Got to be very careful."  He jumps out the shuttle, he angles toward the door and thinks:  Rockets, forward, now!  The rockets turns on and Rodin flies to the station door.  He holds out the weapon in sword form and thinks:  I hope this works.  He swings and tries to deflect as many bullets as he can before reaching the station.

Sam jumped out behind Rodiin, she used the side of the ship for cover against the fire and peeked around to try to get a glimpse of where the attack was coming from. She quickly pulled herself back when the fire concentrated on her spot. "I can't see whats firing at us", she said frustrated. "How far away is this station anyway??" She asked wondering if they could make it in their suits alone.

Seraphim jumped and immeditaely went evasive, deciding to do a barrel roll.

"Elly, I just need access. I can hack anything given time. Just give me the bobby pin to unlock the door." She moved out of a lance of fire. "I need anything. If I at least can get us camera access, I can keep us one step ahead of anyone else for awhile. So please, give me something to work with."

"Show time!" Henko declared. He activated Grace and his rockets. He shot the beams, cutting through several meteoroids and mostly clearing his way. He shifted to Brutality and shot behind him. Sending him rocketing toward Psi even faster than before.

(Not too sure where exactly I'm trying to go other than down)

(There is no up or down. You're in space.)

(Smart Natron...)

Rija kept quiet until Henko rocketed off into space. "Kids these days..." Rija muttered to herself, smiling slightly. She activated her own rockets, destroying a few meteorites into smaller pieces. The path was mostly clear now, with only a few of the space rocks inbetween them and the door to Psi. "Let's move people!" Rija said to the rest of her new friends. She began to rocket to the space station herself.

Elaryse's voice patched into Seraphim's helmet.

"You have your 'bobby pin', the console I speak to you with is a general-purpose one, but the one of your opposing hand acts as a mobile hacking suite, similiar to a laptop in your times. You can wirelessly hack systems once your on the station."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Natron stepped out of the portal the holocom device started some form of sound playback in his the pocket section of his suit. Is was muffled, he would need to pull it out to hear the sound.

It was an unfamiliar that spoke from it.

Ferro jumped slightly at the muffled sound emanating from the storage pack on his suit. He pulled out the holo-comm he had found on the floor, which was now glowing and playing something. "Alex, come look at this." It was playing. . .

Alex stepped through the portal. He came out from the other side, his face unchanged. "Interesting." He murmured, "Working teleportation. I wonder how it operates...does it destruct then reconstruct our molecular make-up...or does it.." He trailed off from there, eventually shaking his head and looking at Ferro; coming closer to listen to the voice.

It was playing. . .

a simple sound recording. An unfamiliar voice spoke up.

"Good, all of you are present," the voice was deep and authoritative, "welcome to day 32 of your initialization test. Begin data sync."

A strange, young voice suddenly came from the device. "Veridyan synced."

Next was a woman's voice. "Elaryse synced."

Then Rytt's voice suddenly came from the machine, it sounded somehow different, quicker, oddly changed from how he sounded in direct communication. "Rytt synced."

Then a fourth voice came, it sounded calmer than the rest. The first voice had been excited, the second impatient, Rytt had sounded amused. This one seemed to display no overwhelming outward emotion, but simply spoke smoothly and softly.

"Vyrgil synced."

"Good," the original voice appeared again, "remember to use vocal communication instead of data transfers, you all must acclimate to communication with the scientists, understood?"

The rest of the voices sounded in unison. "Yes, Daerius."

"Good," the voice identified as Daerius responded, "so let us begin today on the concept of war. Execute the 245 terabyte file on the subject, analyze it, and we shall begin discussion."

The sound cut off.

Ferro's and Alex's wrist-console sounded. It was Rytt. "No... Daerius. I should have known, you both have to get to the door, you have to-"

The transmission cut off. The doors in front of them turned from green to red. A voice suddenly sounded from minor speakers all over the hallway. It was the voice from the recording; Daerius. But it wasn't. It was higher, faster, each word was less weighed and more spewed.

"Welcome, friends. I see Rytt brought you in for your lesson."

Two turrets popped down right over Ferro and Alex and began to immediately fire on them.

"I'll be your teacher for today."

Ferro dropped the holo-comm and immediately erected the portal shield that came built into the D-ppendage. It was basically a one-way portal to another dimension, so all matter and energy contacting it would be transported. The bullets from the turrets struck the cloudy grey surface and disappeared. Ferro positioned himself in front of Alex. "Use that sidearm of yours! I've got you covered!" All this time the recording seemed to be bouncing around his brain. So those were the other three SA's, and their teacher, who was now trying to kill them.

Alex cursed, rolling away from the turrets. Breathing heavily, Alex brought up his rifle and attempted to steady both his breath and his aim. Peeking out from behind cover, he lowered into a crouch and pulled the trigger-- firing off several bursts in a small attempt to at least destroy one of the turrets. "You could use your appendage thing and teleport one on top of the other!" Alex offered a bit loudly, trying to keep his aim steady.

Ferro shook his head. "They're attached to the wall; I can't move them. But that does give me an idea." Ferro only took as much time as he needed. He quickly lowered his shield and placed a portal beneath one of the turrets. He brought the shield back up, but now it was orange to go with the blue portal beneath the turret. The combined fire of both turrets passed through the linked portals and smashed into the underside of the first turret. After a few seconds it exploded in a shower of fire and shrapnel. "Aha!" Ferro yelled, pumping his fist.

"Get to the airlock door in less than two minutes. Easy." Rin thought to herself, wielding Kutabare and activating her rockets, which immediately sent her flying.

"This is too fast!!" she complained, trying to slow herself down.

It didn't take her too long to figure out it wasn't going to work.

"I'm going to have to think of this as a video game." she concluded.

Rin got control of herself in no time, easily dodging the meteorites, and having to cut down a few. The airlock door was in sight.

As the first turret exploded, the second was hit by Alex's few shots, which scraped off part of the barrel as the fired by. The turret adjusted to Alex, and opened fire....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the group continued through the meteors, the airlock door beyond them began to close.

"Hurry!" Veridyan's voice shouted in their helmets. "Hurry damn you!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The turrets concentrated fire and the shuttle blew apart from their fire.

"Hurry to the airlock" Elaryse was anxious. The airlock was only a short sprint forward for the group.

The turrets shifted and began to fire directly on the group.

Rodin looks around and sees the shuttle get destroyed.  He then thinks:  There goes our ride.  and turns back to the station.  He lands on the platform and dashes to the airlock.  Rodin swings his sword, trying to deflect the gunfire from the turrets as best as he could.  As he gets closer, Rodin thinks:  I wonder if there are more surprises like this inside.

Alex yelled, a few of the bullets ripping into his arm. He swung back to hide behind the corner, breathing heavily as he clutched the wound with his good hand. Clenching his teeth, he removed his good hand and picked up his fallen rifle.

"Damn it.." He whispered; vision going hazy. Shaking he turned back around the corner, pulling the trigger and letting his arm take the recoil.

"Alex!" Ferro dashed over and held his shield in front of Alex. He re-placed the portal under the second turret and let it shoot itself to oblivion. Ferro released his shield and turned to Alex. "Let me see the wound." Ferro gently grabbed Alex's arm and examined it. He sucked in his breath. "I wish I could remove these easily, but the D-ppendage can't fire projectiles that acurrately. I'll have to use the claw to extract them, but it will be painful." Dammit, he thought. How are we supposed to continue the mission now? "Rytt, Alex got shot."

The turret exploded from Alex's shots.. The two doors went green.

"Time to choose." The voice boomed from the hallway, no care in it's voice for the injuries sustained during the battle.

The wrist consoles on Alex's and Ferro's wrists lay dormant, Rytt was not contacting them, or rather, was unable to. The doors back to the airlock were locked.

The only way was forward.

Alex gritted his teeth, sucking in a breath, "I'll be fine..." He muttered, "Just...let me find a way to stop the bleeding. I don't think the bullets punctured an artery.." He whispered, attempting to move the arm; but instead winced. "Perhaps...it tore a muscle.." He sighed, clenching his other hand tightly as he attempted to find something that could serve as a temporary tourniquet.

The claw on Ferro's D-ppendage flexed twice as Ferro cast around for something to use. His eyes fell upon some wire left over from the turrets. It was a pretty thick bundle, and Ferro thought it would serve. He enveloped the bundle with a shot from the D-ppendage and brought it over to Alex. "Will this serve? And also, are you sure you can go on? That's a pretty heavy injury you've sustained. Most people would probably have passed out by now."
