The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

Rin's eyes widen.

"This isn't fair though! What have we done!? We've done everything right...now this?" she yelled, looking at the hologram.

Whoever the hell....Veridyan or whoever was doing this too them....they crossed the line. They've gone to far.

Ferro was reaching out to the medkit when Daerius spoke up. His arm dropped back down to his side. Well, yeah, he knew there would be other people here on the station, going after the tether, but he hadn't anticipated a situation like this. Full control of another person' life. . . "Let's get you bandaged, Alex, and then do something about this." He gestured to the hologram with the medkit. Ferro took out bandages and antiseptic. He even found a pair of tweezers. Before Alex could say anything, Ferro grabbed his arm and pulled the bullet out of his wound. He quickly applied antiseptic and a bandage, then removed the wire and made a real tourniquet. At least he could save Alex's life. "Take this pain med." Ferro held out the pill. This was a well-stocked medkit. He would definitely bring it with.

Henko stood silently and began thinking. Under what circumstances could they be killed... He could think of three things. Gas. Explosives. And throwing them into space. He had a risky plan, but he was not gonna leave his life in huge hands of someone else. Grace extended. "I'll be taking matters into my own hands, thank you very much." He held out his arms, each facing one door. He fired the laser out of each blade and began heating the thick walls. "Start blasting, people!" He demanded. "Focus on the door we're supposed to go through, but we're gonna need to force open the other as well!"

The door dented and buckled slightly from Henko's attacks. It wasn't working fast.

But it was working.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Tick Tock." Daerius' voice shot over the speaker to Ferro and Alex. "I'm so glad you want to help your friend. Helping people is so nice isn't it? 30 seconds."

"Seems to be enough." Henko shouted angrily. He shifted from Grace into Brutality. He fired rocket after rock, first from one door, then into the other. Who knew how much time they had left. "Is anyone gonna help me?!"

(Yeah, you're fine.)

The two airlock doors slammed shut.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Okay, you're in, good." Elaryse had regained some of her composure. "I applaud you on a job well done with handling that improvisation. Things should hopefully go smoother from here. Now I'll just unlock the opposite door and then we c-"

The voice cut off. The room was silent for a moment.

"Welcome to Psi" It was an unfamiliar voice being routed through their wrist-consoles now. "Here to untether your good friend Elaryse? So she can, what, gain full power enough to kill you off and become the strongest being in the universe? She's direct, no-nonsense, I was the one that taught her, I know how she thinks." The voice was half deranged. "She is like all of you- selfish. That is one lesson that all parts of life teach us. It is the most important lesson. SAs, Humans, they are the same. They wish only for the things that will help them. For example..."

The wrist consoles suddenly showed a holographic feed of two humans in a small control room. There was no sound, but the image was very clear.

"These two are currently about decide whether they kill you all, or another group of humans. Why are they going to do this, because that is what shall help them. You and your group are only an obstacle. Do you feel alone yet? Do you feel betrayed by your people?"

There was a pause, the feed continued the live broadcast of the two.

"Don't worry," the voice said.

"You will."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Veridyan's group was safely in the airlock chamber.

"Wahooooo!!!!" He was more excited than usual. "Yes, yes, yes! I knew you guys could do it. So awesome. Those meteors were all like 'Hey hey hey, we gonna get you!', and you all were like 'no way, we're Veridyan's crew, we're awesome, Veridyan is awesome!' Yeah you all are gonna do great, ya hear me? I'll start the oxygen filtration cycle and open the door into the station so you can find the tether an-"

His feed cut off. Another, deeper, faster, more deranged voice suddenly began to speak from their wrist consoles.

"Find the tether and allow you maniacal SA friend Veridyan to have all the destructive fun he wants. You realize that, don't you? He's a monster, a child with a gun, and you're about to turn the safety off for him. You cannot blame him, though, he is simply doing what comes naturally- whatever he wants. You are no different, you have come here to help him because it shall save your own skin. You have surely deluded yourself, I know, into thinking that there will be no repercussions, but there will be. You will have to hurt people to continue on this path, and I know you will do it, because you humans only ever care about yourself. My main directive was to teach valuable lessons to those who needed it the most. You and your ilk need to be taught just how much your deluding yourself. Doing things for the greater good eh? You would kill others to get what you want, I know it. Let me show you."

A holographic display appeared on everyone's wrist consoles. It showed two men in a room. There was no sound, but the image was clear.

"These two are about to murder either your group or another group of humans. Why, you ask? Because they want what you want- the tether, and you are nothing more than obstacles. They can only choose one group to murder but I'm sure they would choose both if they could, just like you all, they would do whatever it takes to gain what they want. Watch them..."

The feed continued to run.

"See how much they care about fellow humans- that is, not at all."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A holographic feed came up before Ferro and Alex. The medkit was sitting next to it. On the feed were two screens. One showing one group of people-wearing red armor, and the other wearing green. The groups were made up of different people but they were mostly the same size.

"See to your wounds, and then you have a choice to make. My first class project. These two groups of people are coming to this station to take what you are both after. They are larger than you, so thus they are overall stronger than you. You don't stand a chance, but luckily I wish to help you."

Daerius paused and then continued with a single statement.

"To move on from this room you must select one of these groups, and poison gas will be channeled to their airlock atmospheric introduction chamber. Once their oxygen runs out in a few moments they will all be killed, and you will have one last thing to worry about. See, see how much I'm looking out for you both? A medkit for the injured one, and a leg up on your competition."

There was no communication from Rytt.

"Oh, and you have one minute to choose before I gas them both and you as well."

"Before you have either of us killed, I have a few questions of you, you damn voice. One. What makes you think I'm here for any of the reason's these dunces are. I came here just to I could get answers. I had no intentions of getting any tethers off of any bots. I just wanted to get here and find out if I can trust the thing that let me out of the ice box, which by your statement gives me reason to believe that her motives are just as I suspect. Two. Why have one of us groups killed? It benefits you none, as you can do anything to this station, as I presume, so if your guarding the tethers, you could just kill us here and now, and be over with it. Three, before I just punch a hole in the wall in front of me..." He looked at the wall that was opposite of the airlock. "And rip through the cheap metal that it's made of and go looking for a rocket to send myself home in, you should let me out. Four, if you're willing to disclose more information about our robot buddy who is back, sitting pretty in a cruiser and tell me all of what happened, unlike her, I will happily listen to you instead." Derik took a breath, and awaited a response from the robot. "Man, I hope that we can get somewhere where I can relax soon... I don't know how much longer I can keep this act up..." He thought, hoping Rodin wasn't listening in.

Rin looked at Henko sadly.

"Henko...stop. If somebody is going to kill us...there is nothing we can do about it." she said sadly.

There was really nothing they could do...in Rin's eyes anyway.

Ferro glanced at the hologram, then on an impulse he said "The green group." Ferro felt like it was the right choice. On the one hand, if they didn't manage to break down the door, it would eliminate a larger group of people than the red group. On the other, they had a chance to escape, so he had an excuse for failure. And even though he wouldn't admit it, deep down he hoped they would escape. Ferro had never really maintained much attachment to anybody, or to the human race in general. He always knew it would come back to bite him one day. Today must be that day, he thought grimly.

"I'm..." Henko fired several more rockets.

"Not..." He stopped.

"Giving..." Brutality grew larger.

Heavy Brutality.

"Up!" The large mecha fist made impact on the door that led further into the space station, exerting inhuman force.

Alex popped the med and looked to Ferro, "I don't have enough evidence to truly choose which is best....if this decision leads to any 'best' option at all." He said, sighing, "So it seems i must agree with you, Ferro. The 'green group' it is." Alex said, holding his rifle tightly. He let go of a mental sigh of relief. The medicine was nearly instantaneous in its work. Already his arm started working again. The medkit served well in replacing the hastily made bindings.

Frowning, Seraphim looked at the hologram.

Wireless.

Idiot.

With the speed of a screaming Valkyrie, descending from Asgard to bring the fallen to Odin to prepare for Ragnarok, she began to backhack the signal heading to her wrist console. She had to go slower then she actually plannedto, as she was simultaneously covering her tracks. The thought computer, or ComThought as she jokingly named it, kept up smoothly.

If Derik could keep the bastard talking for just two minutes, she was sure she could override whatever was keeping the airlocks closed.

Another group...

Using an autohack tool to keep her progress going at a very slow pace, she quickly rode the signal and accessed the airlocks. One was full of life signs. Group two.

If she could get into the system, she could open the airlocks and possibly use the intercom to tell them to run....

Going back to work, Seraphim gritted her teeth. She was good. Time to prove it.

Seraphim's attempts soon succeeded, the airlock control system was her's to control.

She would have to move fast.

"You see..." the voice came again, directed toward Derik "you only look out for yourself. You have no trust, no compassion, no care. You look out for yourself and yourself alone. You have quite the mind, but have you companions noticed your lack of a heart? How long will it be until you betray them simply because you can? Do you think they will expect it?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Henko's blast hit the door. It suddenly dented. Hard. A small opening was showing now where the metal has bent so fast and so much that it cracked opened slightly. Not quite enough to fit through, however.

"Good attempt, but that door is harder than it looks. Are you humans truly so selfish that you would fight so brutally for survival. If so... there are more lessons waiting for you." The voice came once more.

The small opening in the door shone with a brightness from beyond it.

Hope.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Select your choice." The voice came again to the control chamber with Alex and Ferro. It was impatient.

the two holographic feeds has selection indexes to be pressed. A press of the button and the toxin would start flowing.

"Now."

Rodin says:  "The firetruck?" from hearing the voice's news.  After hearing Derik's points, Rodin thinks:  Derik sure likes to add numbers when stating his points or questioning.  But maybe he could be stalling for time.  Did he refer to us with an idiot related term?  There's no point to get work up over it.  We're in a lethal predicament here, not to mention the other group in danger.  So on that note, I can't stand here and do nothing.  Rodin walks up to a wall, cutting and blasting, trying to make a hole to escape the room.

"You see, I'm not here to be their buddy or companion. After this, I'm probably never gonna see these creatures again. And when I say creature, it's because the "Humans" are more like beast's that pretend to have what you call a "heart". Humans lack the emotional "heart" and only look to better their situation. But rather than BS my way about it, like a regular human, I cut the act of having emotions and get to the point. Why should I pretend to care about a species of creatures that only know how to hurt It makes no logical sense. Care, compassion, love, those are the emotions humans pretend to have. I'm beyond human, since I don't act like I have feelings. I'm not their teammate, I'm not their pal, they can;t ask me for a cup of sugar, they'll get none, and it's because they pretend to be something they are not. And since you act like the other bot I had to deal with, I'm finished with this. I'm breaking your wall now." Derik stepped back, just enough to give him a small amount more of legroom between him and the door, and he stepped and punched it, the vibrations made were intense as sparks and smoke shot out of the contact point. Even with the smoke, it was still clear enough to tell. The blow succeeded: A hole was open in the place where Derik struck, just about as big as his gauntlet-covered fist was, which isn't a lot.

"You there, if you wanna make it out alive, go from the hole I made, keep striking it and we'll make our way out." Derik looked at the arm and gauntlet he used, the gauntlet was partially melted from the blow, and fell apart. "I knew I would only get a shot each out of these. The material is the weakest I've ever worked with, I'm surprised it held up for that long." He though, stepping back from the wall, he started lining up a punch.

Ferro reached over and pressed the index under the green group. "I'm glad we're agreed." he said to Alex. But not for the same reasons, he thought.

Rin wield Kutabare.

"If we are going to survive...we'll need help." She said, looking at Henko.

She changed her sword into it's flamethrower mode.

"I would step back..." She said seriously, before turning the flamethrower on, it shooting flames at the door."that might make it easier." She said, changing Kutabare into its sword form after a couple of seconds of the flame thrower. She began slashing at the door with Henko.

"Come on guys! We need your help!" Rin snapped.

Brutality grew small again, Henko had decided that a multitude of quick powerful punches would do better than slow, bigger ones.

"Survival's all we got!" He answered. "And I'm not giving up on it!"

"You there, if you wanna make it out alive, go from the hole I made, keep striking it and we'll make our way out." "Hm.  Alright, let's see about that."  Rodin runs to the hole Derik made and starts slashing at it.  While he was slashing, Rodin says to Derik:  "Got to say, I have to agree with what you say Derik.  Many humans are emotionless beasts; and what the robot said was true as far as the majority of them being selfish, trying to obtain and reach matters for their own benefit.  And that's why reason why I signed up for the cryo freeze.  To get away from it all.  I might even further prove about the selfish portion after that last statement.  But not everyone is like that.  I'm sure....no, I know there were people concerned about the well being of others, wanting to help with problems other than their own, wanting to get along with others and have peace.  But the problem is, there just wasn't enough of them in the past.  So, I wanted to change that by coming to the future."

"It might be a mistake by helping out Elaryse.  She could be the SA who wiped out most of humanity.  It could be foolish to trust her.  But, there's also a chance she isn't responsible for the action.  Heck, that new robot voice we just heard could be the one who did it.  But if she is and tries to do something sinister, then I'll do something about it  So, I'm just going to help Elaryse and sees what happens. But I want to help the other group too.  Say what you want about what I , Elaryse, and that other guy say.  Once we're out of danger and off this station, or choose one, you can do what you want.  If plan to leave after this is done, then go ahead.  I won't try to stop you.  But know that besides being alone, you'll miss out on the chance to ensure a human that's better than the last.  Wow, I said a lot, so I'll just stop and keep working."

Rodin switches to blaster mode and fires around the hole.

"Will you idiots stop wasting energy?"

For her group, and the other group trapped, the airlock doors opened but jammed open due to the damage.

"Assuming direct control you firetrucking voice." She started hacking further, aiming to cut the voice off from controlling the station. She hit the intercom.

"Green group, dynamic duo. Get your asses moving now. If we control the station, we control the SA's. So get moving."F

Suddenly the door opened. A voice different from the intercom, came in. It was a female. Rija decided to assume that this new voice was a different human that had managed to hack into the door. "Thanks pal! Appreciate the letting us go thing." Rija said, hoping the hacker would receive her message. Rija ran through the door, lighting up her energy saber and pistol in case of any more dangers.

"We'll talk more about this later." Derik gave his all in the next punch. "I'm gonna risk breaking my wrist in this shot, so these guys better enjoy it." He thought, unleashing the next hit. Similar to what happened the first time, smoke filled the room as the hole was made, but this time, the hole was much larger. "With the excess damage dealt, the door should break within the next attack." He thought, looking at the gaping holes he made, the second one as big as his head. "Okay, now if I could just get a hold of a weapon... Oh, well. I'll make due without one." He thought, preparing another punch.

Toxin flooded into the airlock chamber where Veridyan's group was. At the same time the airlock door leading further into the station opened and the group saw the hallway before them. It was fairly long but at the end was a huge metallic sliding door with a green light next to it, signifying it was open.

The toxin was coming in fast, they would have to hurry.

Veridyan's voice suddenly shot in through the silence. "RUN DAMN YOU!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The feed of the two airlock chambers showed Ferro and Alex that both rooms had just been opened up by some hacker in the red group. The groups seemed to begin to move.

"Hmmm." Daerius' voice interjected in the quiet victory. "Fear not, you will have time to kill them soon. Now, you want the tether, right? You'll need to make it to the bridge to be able to take the elevator to the special tether zone. It's just through the next door."

The light next to the door went from red to green.

"Just step right through and help your good buddy Rytt."

There was a dark pause. The wrist consoles on both of their arms were flickering, Rytt was trying to contact them, but being denied.

"He is your buddy right? You would know him better than me, right? I only taught him how to function correctly, but you, you are both his pawns. Of course you must know him better, of course you trust him."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Well, well, well." The deep maniacal voice spoke to Elaryse's group. "Looks like there's a hacker in the group I underestimated. I won't make that mistake again."

The hacking section of Seraphim's gear showed how all her local entry points were being quickly closed off.

"Now," the voice continued as the group saw that the door Seraphim had opened lead into a huge long room. On both sides were various holoconsoles. They each were running looped videos of a scientist talking. "how about you learn the truth about your SA buddy? Well, right after I get you back for you little stunt."

The airlock chamber suddenly started beeping. An automated voice relayed an automatic message.

"Airlock chamber disengaging in 5 seconds, please vacate."

Locks began to disengage, the door Seraphim had just opened began to close. It was now or never to go through, and there was no going back.

Ferro turned away from the hologram of the two groups. The green ones could escape. Ferro almost sighed with relief. Almost. "Rytt seems to be a little more trustworthy than you." he said, talking to Daerius. "I mean, he has never threatened to flood a space station with chemicals or comment on the wicked nature of human beings like SOME PEOPLE can't help doing. It's rather annoying, so stop."

(Now I'm confused...)
