The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

 

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

 

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

 

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

 

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar.  Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

 

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

 

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

Ferro whirled on Derik. "You've stepped over the line too! The only reason I'm not going to kill you is because you are helpless and because I've had enough of killing! The only reason I killed that one is because I felt I had to do it." Ferro gave Derik a sour look, then turned back to the women who had spoken. "I respect you as a soldier and as a fellow last human. Both positions can be honorable. Both can also be evil."

Ferro whirled on Derik. "You've stepped over the line too! The only reason I'm not going to kill you is because you are helpless and because I've had enough of killing! The only reason I killed that one is because I felt I had to do it." Ferro gave Derik a sour look, then turned back to the women who had spoken. "I respect you as a soldier and as a fellow last human. Both positions can be honorable. Both can also be evil."

"Tch. If you try diplomacy calmly, with no insults, no yelling, no one will listen. But at least I don't take things to extremes, like you. We easily could have just put pressure on a nerve to ensure the knock out of the boy and tied him up, then disarmed him! You and he stepped over the line at a much more incredible rate than I did, in fact, you just trampled over it!" Derik said, slightly actually annoyed. "Honestly, I hate this. If I didn't have to be carried by you, I would walk out on my own and actually look for an escape."

"You felt like you had to kill him?! You two could have always gotten over it, beat up each other some..But KILL HIM?!!" Rin yelled.

Kutabare was by her side, in its flamethrower mode.

"If anyone else dies, it is you. Ferro, wasn't that your name? Rin is my name, thought you should know the name of your killer." She said, staring at Ferro and pointing the flamethrower at him, and fireing.

"You felt like you had to kill him?! You two could have always gotten over it, beat up each other some..But KILL HIM?!!" Rin yelled.Kutabare was by her side, in its flamethrower mode."If anyone else dies, it is you. Ferro, wasn't that your name? Rin is my name, thought you should know the name of your killer." She said, staring at Ferro and pointing the flamethrower at him, and fireing.

"Wait wait wait wait wait! I didn't kill him!" Derik screamed as the fire approached, even though he was on the floor. If he could reach the controls on his wrist console, he would be able to at least protect himself from the flame approaching his head, his body would be fine; the armor's heat resistance would be enough to survive that flame, but his head was in danger. using what momentum he had left, Derik moved himself onto his wrist thing in hops to cause it to activate his helmet, and it did. Derik sighed, but felt sorry for Ferro. Normally, he would have whipped though the wife with something, maybe his coat, then smother her in it and hold her down, but the paralyzation made it impossible. After that last movement, his leg was shot now, though.

(All I did was try to KO him so that he didn't kill no one! And look at where he is now! Dead!)

Ferro's arm was up as soon as the girl started yelling at him, the portal shield flickering into existence. It gobbled up the flame like a hungry mouth, sending it to who-knows-where. Ferro kept the shield in place even after the attack was finished. "I don't want to kill you." he said to the girl. "But my safety is above the safety of other people on my priority list. That's just the way it is. Stop fighting so I won't have to do it."

"If you don't want to kill anyone...then why did you kill Henko?!" Rin snapped, changing Kutabare into its sword form, it was slightly bigger of a sword then it usually was, mostly because of her rage.

She charged at Ferro, swinging her sword quickly. Once it hit Ferro, Rin laughed slightly. It was a definite hit, Rin simply stared at the boy, her sword in his side.

"I car about others more then myself, but when somebody does something to my friends, I don't care about anyone." She snapped.

"....You've doomed us all...." Derik thought, most of his strength was going to keeping himself alive now.

"HEY!" Sera ducked. "Please don't fire indiscriminantly. I really don't wanna die." She shamelessly cowered on the table, her ankle still killing her. "Can we please put the guns and flamethrowers down? Please...don't shed more blood." She again begged.

And cowered more, not sure her armor would protect her for very long.

"For once, I agree with someone, put the firetrucking flamethrower down!" Derik yelled. "In any case, once things are established, I think I can recreate him using the Genesys machine anyway!"

Everyone now sat in the same room. Things were... tense.

 

 

"I'm administering painkillers to you right now" Elaryse's voice came in on Seraphim's wrist console. "Rodin, while that happens, keep an eye on the other two groups. Things could go very badly from here."

 

Veridyan's voice came in suddenly through the wrist consoles. "Dog boy! You've got to be kidding me!  Rytt, your death hounds need to be on a damn leash!"

 

Rytt's voice was faint. "Ferro. You... damn it. I won't contest you, but... getting to Genesys now.... As for you, Veridyan, you know how this game is played."

 

"You're pretty freakin' correct there!" Veridyan yelled out. Things were tense, the voices of the SA's were reflecting it. "Listen, Rin, you've got to calm down, okay? Calm down! He's gone, but you're gonna be tearin' this place apart if you keep up like this, okay? If we're gonna get Genesys, we need a calm head. We need to get through these posers logically."

 

"Logically!" Elaryse laughed the word, "You talk of logic Veridyan, your little soldier there was a hot head if I ever saw one."

 

"Can we all just calm the hell down!" Rytt's words were terse and commanding. The room stopped. Hatreds, tenseness, violence, death. They all seem to disappear in the momentary silence.

 

"Ferro's hurt badly..."

Seraphim stood off the table.

"Someone. Bring Derik for the cure. Everyone else stay here." She started walming to the door.

"If we don't come back, run. You run and get away from here." She grimaced as finally the painkillers set in. "Please." She begged them all. Dont risk humanity's last hope by putting all our eggs in one basket."

(Uh.. We still have to resolve if Ferro is alive after the attack... I mean... She did just cut through his side, and likely cut off one of the endocrine tubes that lead from his body's endocrine system to his kidneys, nor to mention the internal ruptures from the attack and the probable internal bleeding, unless he has a miracle save him, he's probably dead...)
