Food for thought if you're picking the sword.

  • Stun impact has too much of a delay time, I don't really need Leaf Bracer, and I did just fine without Magic Haste/MP Rage. They're not necessary abilities. I always go with the sword for Sliding Dash

  • It feels so good choosing the sword. It feels right.

Woops. I had multiple pages open along with this one, so I thought I was quoting you here, lol. The page was scrolled down past your text. (massive fail) And weird, I never even got a notice for you quoting this link. ._.

But thanks. ;]

No problem. I've had the notification problem before, myself. I dunno what's up with that.

Yeah, but i dont need MP rage and MP Haste because most of the time i know when to dodge attacks. The only real times i would need abilities like those is when fighting the secret bosses, and when i go up against them, i plan to be at level like 70.

For most of the story bosses, you can just mash attack and heal and you'll win. BUt i see your point though. I may choose Magic for my Normal mode run(to platinum the game) and give up strength to try it out and see which one i like more.

But i have to admit, Gravity is THE BEST SPELL IN THE FUGGIN GAME. When i played the game at a friends house, i would use Gravity on enemies like the Big Fat Heartless, and it decimated their health. And compared to other spells ITS SO OVERPOWERED. Not to mention IT CAME HURT XEMNAS. So i see your point.

You may have changed my mind. If it really just adds only 1 strength to choose sword, ill just Choose Shield and drop Sword on my proud playthrough. I'll keep Magic, so ill get the MP abilities faster. On my normal run, ill probably choose Magic and see how it goes. BUt im definitely choosing Shield for Proud mode, since it looks like the defense will REALLY HELP against the bosses.

Yeah, no kidding. I may end up choosing shield now anyways, because apparently, they switched Leaf Bracer onto shield now for 1.5, according to http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/kingdom-hearts-final-mix-hd/195127-kingdom-hearts-final-mix-hd-trophy-guide-roadmap.html... Grreaat...Now I look like a fail. lol. Leaf Bracer along WITH second chance?!? Shield wins! *edits first post* *is an idiot* >.>

Sword is canon.I choose sword.

It really depends on your playstyle. I usually use physical attacks with little emphasis on defense so I always chose the sword and give up the shield.

If you give up the shield, you won't have Second Chance and Leaf Bracer until level 69. That's such a no-no for me. Especially on KH1's Proud difficulty. You're basically unstoppable with these two abilities combined unless you run out of MP.

My first post is fail...They switched Leaf Bracer onto the shield.

I never payed attention to that before, imma take the magical wand next time and try it out, i always figured since i dont really use magic i dont need it but i see the light now :P

UGH, I just found out that SE switched Leaf Bracer and Second Chance onto the shield now, instead of the wand for KH 1.5. That's definitely making me rethink my thread, lol...The game would be frustrating as all hell on Proud without those abilities.

Isn't the rod essential to getting the best post-game Sora possible? I picked the sword and left the rod when I first played this game as a kid, but I think i'll do it the other way around this time. I want the best level 100 Sora possible.

Well a lvl 100 Sora has every single ability anyways. You just get them at much later levels, depending on which item you choose in the beginning.

The shield makes for a 100x easier playthrough though, since you get both Leaf Bracer and Second chance by 36.

Whoa, I didn't think of that. ._. I still usually choose the shield now though, since I go with Expert. The defense boost is insanely helpful, and I don't use magic often aside from Curaga and Aeroga.

Yes. Choose the shield. SE failed by switching the abilities all around again in 1.5 without saying anything. :/

Leaf Bracer and Second Chance are now on shield.

I don't really need Leaf Bracer.

It's not a necessary ability.

You'll be retracting this statement if you play on Proud, I promise you that.

They switched it to the shield anyways in 1.5. I was mistaken.

I played KHFM on Proud all the way through to the credits without Leaf Bracer. Your promise is not valid.

I always pick the sword and give up the staff.

But if I pick the staff and give up the shield then it will take me forever to defeat an opponent. Especially of I want to use the Kingdom Key for the whole game, I've tried but failed a couple of time. Maybe in KH1.5 I might go for the Silver Unchanging Armor Trophy on Final Mix Beginner and pick the Staff and give up the Shield and keep experimenting with each one to see which is the best one to pick and give up.

Obviously these dream weapons are based on preference.

If you are an offensive type of player (like me), take the sword - Most offensive abilities comes earlier

If you are a defensive type of player, take the shield - Most Defensive abilities comes earlier

If you are a magic type of player, take the staff - Most Magic abilities comes earlier

Pretty much the upside of Magic that, unlike the other Dream Weapons, the staff gives you 1 extra bar of MP, which can't be gained by boosts.

Sorry that chart I previously posted was incorrect.

Oh yea this is the chart (I hope this is correct):

Uh, this list IS NOT CORRECT FOR Final Mix. Thats from the original KH, NOT Final Mix. In Final Mix YOU HAVE NEW ABILTIIES AND IT SWITCHES UP THE ORDER IN WHICH YOU LEARN THEM.

I should have known. The new abilities weren't in the list.

I picked the Dream Rod back when I played KH2 becuz of it's cool,Yen Sid-Inspired design(seriously firetrucking awesome design this shit has) but I chose the Sword now in KH1 and sacrificed Defense(I figured I can equip armor anyways)

My play-style is based on fighting but I use the occasional magic trick from long range...but Magic isn't useful for a long while till that shit friggin levels up.Can't wait till I get Magnera...I hope that shit is as broken as it was in KH2...loved using it

My playstyle is kind of based on Preserving MP(until i'm out of potions and have to use Curaga which drains all my MP at once) and use it when shitloads of enemies attack me at once...when there's like 2 to 5 enemies I don't usually use it cuz I don't want to waste it...so eh

I got to Wonderland and learned Fire prior to going there...for now Fire's not useful(or maybe it's the enemies in Wonderland that are resistant to fire? I dunno)

Going to play more of it tomorrow hopefully
