What I don't understand about Fighting Games.

Posted

As fighting games, I mean Tekken, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive,Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc...

This has come to my mind SEVERAL times, especially because of Tekken and Soul Calibur.

Normally, the story mode of a fighting game depends of the character you choose. If you finish the story mode with a character and then with another, the ending has nothing to do with anything. It... just doesn't add up and makes any sense.

Tekken 6's endings don't make sense either and since there isn't a Tekken 7... I have no idea what happened.

Some modern FIghting Games still folllow the old style and others only own a Story Mode with a certain group of characters.

Did you ever noticed this, too? Isn't it confusing to see many endings without knowing which one is the REAL?

The multiple endings are there to give the impression that you have changed the course of events of history, depending on who you fought with and what you've done. Actually, it makes much more sense this way: Astaroth and Maxi can't both kill each other and both survive, so it stands to reason that they need different endings. It generally makes it feel like you've accomplished something.

If you're confused just look up on games wiki or something. Usually with something like Tekken, one character's story is the canonical one(which is usually the Mishima's) and the rest are "What if".

The only " fighting " game I ever played was one called Vampire Secrets: the ending involved your characters death no matter what you did over the course of the game.

In soul calibur, the story is you trying to get soulcalibur or soul edge. aside from that there's not much of a storyline

fighting games arent primarily for storyline, the gameplay is why most people buy it

Story in fighting games are not important at all....the endings are just there to give you an incentive to play the Single player and see whether the ending is funny or worth watching(Note:The real ending of Tekken 6 is in the single player adventure with Lars)

As much as I love Tekken, the story is laughable and don't make much sense but it;s funny to see nonetheless......But the canon revolves around the Mishima characters and one of them has the canonical ending(E.g:Jin's ending in Tekken 5 is the real ending where Jin takes over the Mishima Zaibatsu)

I never cared about Story mode in fighting games but it's a nice distraction when you wanna unlock characters or take a break from multiplayer...though I won't be bother if it's taken out of a game that doesn't need a story to begin with like Crossover fighting games

there does not have to have a story line for fighters the main  awesomeness to fighters is to fight. tournaments, friends family et cetera. I personally love fighters just for that and well the art, and fighting styles too.

NEO GEO forever!

Ahh... gotcha.

The game has a good story for a fighting game. All SC games have a good story, except for Soul Calivur V.

Fighting games are mostly for kicking a**, not for the story.

RPG games are more suited for storylines xD

Soul Calibur V can die in hellfire!!!!It's the worst Soul Calibur game ever made

It's not just bad story, but the game lacks every....single....fun modes that were included in the previous games...no conquest mode...no challenge tower...nothing

The roster is  the most barebone character roster I've ever seen in a Namco fighting game and most of the new characters are either clones of old characters or enhanced clones of already existing characters

The Arcade mode of SC5 is the most anti-climactic version of the mode I ever seen....not to mention the challenge mode in the game exist there just for you to unlock Algol from SC4 and that's it
