Due to Sora losing the majority of his memories in CoM, and having it affect everyone back at Destiny Islands where they have forgotten him.. Have you ever wondered what Sora's parents must think? I mean, "hey would you look at this, hunny! There's a room in this house filled with boy stuff. It's as if we had a son! LOL" 

 

As for Riku, I don't recall people forgetting about him. In fact, Selphie and Kairi remember Riku even if it was vaguely. As for his parents, they must have went crazy since their son has been gone for over a year. They've probably got on their knees begging his friends to tell them where Riku is. Obviously no one knows, so they murdered Tidus and Waka because, well, Riku's parents are insane now. This explains why Tidus and Waka aren't in KH2 but Selphie is. So by the time Sora and Riku come back home at the end of KH2, Riku isn't grounded because he's parent-less. 

 

(LOL the thing about Sora's parents is a bit more realistic, and completely possible.)

I think Sora's Parents completely forgot and Riku during 365/2 Days went home to Destiny Islands and gave an excuse to the Mayor(Kairi's Dad) and his parents for their absences

I think it's just something that's going to have to be left unmentioned, like whatever happened to Andy's dad in the Toy Story movies. There's too many logical fallacies with Sora and Riku's parents that there's going to be no way to resolve them. Their family isn't even a major focal point in the story besides a couple of references here and there, anyway.

This reminds me of an amazing fanfiction trilogy someone made, explaining Sora's parents' reactions to everything. It's so amazing, and in my headcanon now. LOL. I think they just had more kids and used time travel to make them older to replace Sora and Riku.

 

Or they adopted Cloud and Sephiroth.

 

OR they bought another Sora and Riku at the store.
