How to spot a 'noob' in Pokemon games.

Posted

Hey all.

Now, when I say 'noob', I mean... 'quote on quote' noob. These are from online experiences with both the lv. 50 flat rule and original levels.

Opponent has only one 'good' Pokemon in an 'original' levels battle.

That 'good' one is a considerably higher level than all the others, indicating they only used that Pokemon throughout the whole game. Once that pokemon is gone, they're a breeze, and this can occur into a rage-quit from them.

They don't know type advantages.

Sure, you have to be 'quote on quote' superhuman to remember EVERY SINGLE type advantage on the spot, but very few people don't know the starter advantages.

Opponent uses only one type of Pokemon, as if they're a gym-leader.

Opponents like these are extremely easy to sweep, if you have at least one pokemon with the advantage. Since you most likely have a variety of types, it's almost 100% there will be one Pokemon there with the advantage.

Opponent uses ONLY legendaries.

Don't get me wrong, they're powerful, but sometimes, it feels like they're using them solely to rely on them being strong, and that doesn't necessarily mean a 'sure-fire win' for them. Another one that sometimes ends with a rage-quit.

Opponent relies too much on attacking.

Sometimes, the best way to turn the tide of the battle is to stat-boost. I mean, Meowstic with Charm like, all those other moves... I used to be this way too, but I realized stats are VERY important.

Discuss? And if you use these, I don't mean you're a noob. Like I said: 'QUOTE ON QUOTE' NOOB!

On another topic, I sweeped a team from a German. Sorta...

So, he was spamming to battle with me. I chose Talonflame, Venasaur and Delphox. We rounded it off to all level 50.He started with the special Blazekin. He tried to hit me, my Talonflame used fly. I dodged, then hit him, to a single sliver of health. Then he used another attack, and it got Talonflame to yellow. He used brave bird before I used my Agility, so, he killed himself, and that benefited for me, since I was way faster. Then he sent out Lucario. I hit him with Flame Charge, took him to yellow. I got hit, he knocked me to a SINGLE HP POINT, then I took him out with another Flame Charge. I assumed he would use his Yveltal to destroy me, but no. I never got to see his final Pokemon. So...yeah...I got pretty damn lucky.#TalonflameSweep: He mega-evolved the Blazekin.

Um no offensive but fly? No Gale Wings? *whistles* (Unless you want to be funny and fly while Blaziken uses Hi Jump Kick)But I get what you mean. I see it a lot. Also lol people still use Hyper Beam. I thought the nubs knew to avoid that move after all these generations.

I didn't have Gale Wings.

How to spot a noob???

I'll tell ya....most of the noobs I've met are genwunners who use nothing but Gen 1 Pokemon and when you ask himher why they reply that nothing is good after Gen 1

Seriously I've met a lot of those in Showdown and one of them threw F-bombs at me for why I was using a Liepard

If you`re asking about that title, it is actually 'spot' if you talking about a typo.

I feel like using even one legendary is "noobish"

gl with that, even on rated battles.

Speaking of which, once Pokebank is out, expect a crapton of Arceus and Darkrai noobs that use stupid unreliable strategies like Dark Void+Nightmare+Dream Eater. Oooh scary... *sarcasm* I'll be sure to sweep with my own Darkrai, or if on rated battles, Excaldrill. xD

I can't say much really, since it's my first Pokémon game ( You must think I'm a noob because of that ).

I see lots of people only using attack moves. I have a friend that doesn't have the slighest buffs.

Although I have a buff per pokemon, I really don't know the right moves... or natures... #Serebiiftw

Yeah, I'm pretty much a noob for that.

Opponents name starts with Z and ends with OLA

What's so wrong with Hyper Beam? I mean, I get that it might not be so "good" for competitive battling, but is it so wrong to want to use a cool attack in a battle?

Hyper Beam is cool but the problem is that recharge turn after using it can screw you over

Not to mention that there are lots of attacks that can outclass Hyper Beam with just one stat boost

It's not wrong to use Hyper Beam, but you need to have an item like Power Herb maybe on your Pokemon

This is a stupid opinion tbh. If it has better team synergy than any other Pokémon considered for its role, then why not?

stupid opinion, ok thank you

I personally just don't like using them

  • 2 weeks later...

I don't stat boost much, except for accuracy, speed and evasiveness.

...Well, thank god I don't follow any of these. Not even when I was a young'un.

With the stat boosts, okay, sure, I rarely had those moves on my team. However, given that I get a move that does a good stat boost/both damage AND stat-boosts, I'd use it.

Legendaries I just thought were always cheap.

Genwunners can go screw themselves, because Pokemon's been getting more and more better and, more importantly, accessible to new players, especially those that wanna take up competitive battling.

As for the gym leader thing, it can actually be quite fun trying to go up against someone with a team of Poison or Grass only. In competitive, however, yeah, don't do that.

And yeah, I think that's all the input I'll give. In short, I'm not a noob...I think that's what this all amounts to, right?
