I don't do this often because I'm terrible at creative writing but I had this idea for a story or, more likely, a comic. It's not really fleshed out yet, so I'll just put down more of a description than an actual story
It has a lot of cliche`s, a reluctant hero, and gem collecting being the most prominent.
The idea is taken from partly from Kingdom Keepers and Castle of Illusion. The whole thing takes place over the course of a single night in The Florida Magic Kingdom park.
The main character, a man in his early 20s' (I'm thinking between 21-23) is visiting the park with his aunt and uncle and their two kids. Like many Disney kids he still enjoys it but, being an adult, no longer sincerely believes in Disney Magic. This is a problem, because the park is in danger and can only be saved by someone who truly believes, with all their heart, that it's real. He falls a sleep on a park bench and wakes up after hours, Merlin (who he obviously thinks is just an actor working overtime) appears and strikes up a conversation. He finally gets the guy to come to the Cinderella castle where he and the Fairy Godmother explain that the villains are attempting to awaken Chernabog and that the only way to stop them is for a true believer to gather the seven gems scattered around the park. When this is done, the gems will resonate with his heart and allow him to fully draw the Sword in the Stone from it. By this point he thinks this is all a dream and when he fails to wake himself up, decides to go along with it, but still doesn't believe.
After gathering said gems and encountering many memorable characters, both good and evil, the characters are distraught that the gems still show no reaction. It is at that point that Chernabog bursts from the top of the Cinderella Castle, mirroring his introduction in the Night on Bald Mountain segment of Fantasia. Out of time they send the main character to attempt to draw the sword, while his allies try to stall the demon.
When he arrives the Sword doesn't budge an inch and the characters are getting the snot beat out of them. seeing all of his childhood icons being hurt awakens a part of him that has been long buried and he cries. Just a single tear, but that's all it takes. He now truly believes that all of this is real and the gems react. They fuse together and the new, single, gem embeds itself into the cross guard of the sword. He draws it and, as fast as he can returns to the Castle. He arrives just as the sun begins to rise. Remembering Fantasia, he raises the sword above his head just as the sun breaches the horizon. the suns light is drawn to the gem and infuses the bladed, and the man, with it's power. He leaps to the top of the tower ('cause, magic) and impales Chernabog with the sword, Much like Philips' sword did to Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. Chernabog, being a creature made of pure evil and all, can't be destroyed, but he is imprisoned in the form of a small statuette. The battle was not without cost however. An entire section of the park was destroyed, but the day was won. As opening approaches the characters must return the their stations and the hero returns the Sword to the Stone. As it still has some of the suns energy it creates a seal to prevent to villains from ever leaving their attractions again, even after hours, so the park will remain safe. As for Chernabog, he is put into the Vault (yes, that vault) never to be released again. The young man returns home, with no proof of his adventures, but no doubt that Disney Magic does, and will continue to exist, so long as there are those who believe.
I have the cast list figured out (All names of official Disney characters are canon)
Heroes: as of yet unnamed OC
Peter Pan
Taran
Captain Phoebus
Hercules Tarzan Milo Thatch
Jim Hawkins
Villains:
Chernabog Maleficent Jafar
Ursula Queen Grimhilde ("The Queen") Hades Captain Hook Pete
Princesses: Snow White Cinderella Aurora Ariel Belle Jasmine Tiana Minnie Mouse (Honorary)
Princess:
Prince Florian ("The Prince") Prince Henry ("Prince Charming") Prince Philip
Prince Eric Prince Adam("Beast") Aladdin Prince Naveen (of Maldonia) *He'd never let me hear the end of it if I didn't put the whole thing* Mickey Mouse (Honorary)
Support: Merlin Fairy Godmother Yen Sid (undecided)
I'd like to add more characters like Donald and Goofy as well as villains such as Clayton and Gaston but I'm not sure what capacity they'd be in, especially the villains as each of the villains already listed, save for Chernabog, are tasked with collecting one of the gems. I also have an angle where characters can't use the gems themselves so the villains try to win my OC over to their side, rather than destroying him. And I have yet to name the character. I'm trying to go for something normal but that also sounds cool without being a typical "rich boy" (i.e Maximillian, too many syllables) name. I also don't want to use a name that's been beaten to death (for example Finn. I can name at least 3 fictional characters with that name off the top of my head)
Input, such as critiques, name suggestions for the main character, and additional Disney Characters, would all be very much appreciated. Thank you.
